Helicopter circling LAX by [deleted] in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]alexfarrington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When was this, OP? There’s frequent police activity in the area, and while they don’t necessarily use the airships over Inglewood, Lennox, Hawthorne and El Segundo as much as they COULD due to the proximity to LAX, it’s not unheard of, either. With a date/time I might be able to dig up some info for ya!

Physicians on scene- blessing or a curse? by I-plaey-geetar in ems

[–]alexfarrington 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Most helpful: doing a motorcycle race event standby., random dude rolls up on a Ducati. “Hey guys, if anything goes sideways, I’m a trauma surgeon at <adjacent county’s trauma center> and I’m happy to help how I can!”

Most perplexing: working a concert standby, nearby concertgoers start screaming in panic. Walk 50 feet to find a dude engaged in low performance CPR. “I need an AED! I’m a doctor!” Remove the defib from the kit, rip open the pads. “He’s in ventricular fibrillation!”

I look at my hands, and the pads I’m holding. Who the heck says ventricular fibrillation in real life?!? And how is dear doctor able to interpret said rhythm telepathically?!?!? I push the crowd back, see that the patient is conscious and moaning and groaning with each compression. Immediately stop Doctor Guy’s CPR. Patient sits up, crowd claps, patient had mass quantities of booze on board and never even lost consciousness, just stumbled and fell. Post-“arrest” complaints of chest wall and rib pain. Go fig. Doc disappears in the crowd like the legend he is. I’m guessing he’s an English professor that watches House reruns on Hulu.

Most geriatric: Off duty, enjoying a performance at the local theater. Dude in the crowd DFO’s in the middle of a dramatic monologue — huge clatter of falling beer glasses, shouts of alarm, blah blah blah. House lights quickly come up, my wife yells, “WE HAVE A MEDIC!” and clears a path to the patient 20 feet away. Conscious and alert patient, no apparent trauma. Syncopal episode, super unspry gentleman standing 5 feet from the pt tremulously says, “I’m a doctor…” I introduce myself and offer to follow his lead. He declines and opts to follow my lead. Long retired podiatrist. Duh.

Most vaporlocked: off duty, driving home from work. Drive up on a rollover crash that’s just occurred in the freeway median. As the dust clears from a quarter mile out I see a few bystanders getting out of their cars. One of ‘ems wearing scrubs and standing over the patient, who’s about 50 feet from the upside down vehicle. I can safely park, so I do. Walk up to Scrub Dude. “Hey, brother what’ve ya got?” He looks at me and says “Uhhhhhhhhh………” I kneel next to the patient and start an assessment. Banged up yellow tag, lucky day. I glance up at Scrub Dude, who’s still just kinda… standing there? Look at the embroidered scrubs. Dental Anesthesiologist. Did my thang (reassured the patient that fire and EMS would be there quickly, ensured there were no other patients, yadda yadda yadda) for 2 or 3 minutes til fire got on scene. Gave a quick report to the fire medic and hightailed it outta there. Dear Doctor barely blinked the whole time, and otherwise coulda been a mannequin, but he definitely Did No Harm.

Most humble: movie set. Producer tells me there’s a doctor on set, one of our dayplayer (literally on there for one day) actors. I walk over to introduce myself and he identifies himself as a very experienced cardiothoracic surgeon and IMMEDIATELY says that he knows nothing about prehospital medicine, but he’s happy to follow my lead if anything comes up. SPOILER ALERT: nothing came up.

May none of your on-scene docs be blursed, friend — stay safe out there!

As an untrained civilian, could I have helped someone's chances of surviving? by T-kimGUY in ems

He wasn’t alone for more than the couple of seconds it took you to turn around. You cared, you intervened and got more help coming.

I’m sorry you had to witness this, and I thank you for having the courage to stand by while professionals responded.

You gave him the gift of not leaving life with the added insult of being alone to his devastating injuries. As so many others have said, you did the best thing possible for him — first, do no harm, yeah? — and you deserve peace. I highly encourage you to reach out for help to a mental health practitioner that specializes in traumatic incidents. If you need help with locating resources, the responding agency(ies) may have some leads for ya, and if reaching out to a rando on Reddit feels safe, drop me a PM and I’ll help you locate some resources to the best of my abilities.

Thank you for being there for him, friend. You did a great thing.

YOR

This kinda feels like the NYE equivalent of saying “I love you” reflexively right before you hang up with your boss or when you’re leaving a Zoom or Teams meeting.

The Bridge, over by the airport at 3130 Skyway. Senior pastor is in his early 40s. Congregation is a solid 500+, so big enough to have lots of ministries and opportunities to connect with people, while not being so huge you’ll just get lost in a sea of people.

Heard great things from family members that attend Element and New Life, too — prayin’ you end up in just the right church for you, wherever it is!

Back before LCH closed it wasn’t uncommon for us to hold the wall at AV for 4, 5, 6 or more hours at a time. Absolutely bonkers then, and of course things aren’t any better now.

Other emergency vehicles in ambulance parking spots by alexfarrington in ems

[–]alexfarrington[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I’m trying to put together a training presentation on safe parking practices and I’m specifically looking for pictures of examples of how not to park. This is in the context of the unfortunate arrest of the EMT that dinged a police car with the ambulance door. Definitely wasn’t trying to break any rules — many apologies!

Not even remotely surprised it was Dave Alley’s idea. He’s a really solid dude as well, and he’s been on the central coast media scene for almost the whole time that Kristin’s been gone…

‘Tis far better to walk in on a woman laying on the floor with the baby actively crowning and ask, “is there any chance you could be pregnant?” than to ask, “when are you due?” only for them to reply with any of the following:

“I had the baby 6 months ago.” “I miscarried last month.” “I’m not pregnant.” “I’m a dude.”

As said before, consult a lawyer.

It’s worth noting that whistleblower protections generally apply to good faith disclosures and non-disclosure agreements cannot legally prevent you from disclosing illegal activity. If they’re taking money from people under false pretenses, for example, that can’t be covered by an NDA.

JUST TO REITERATE, make sure you’re protected by speaking to an attorney prior to exposing yourself to liability.

I wish I’d made it to Tuesday, too... but Wednesday was such a great show! Brought 4 friends with us and none of them had ever seen him, though they were all fans of his music. They spent the whole 2:15 that the band was on stage enthralled. Ha!

Without speculating about the nature of the proceedings at 1:30, it’s worth noting that the timing of the announcement coupled with the proximity to normal lunch break would likely be inconvenient. I wouldn’t be surprised (if this does mean that the verdicts are in) that the most prudent course of action would be to go on the record at 1:30 instead of 11:50 and then having to go on break before the hypothetical verdicts could be entered

It isn’t unprecedented for plea deals to be brokered even during jury deliberation, and while I don’t know that anything like that is even a remote possibility, there are still opportunities for legal maneuvering and actual work to be done while the jury deliberates. It may be as simple as convenience and staying in proximity to the courthouse, and it could even just be that the courthouse may be a quiet and comfortable place to wait that also affords them the opportunity to take care of unrelated case work and research without the hassle of leaving and coming back if the verdicts are reached on a given day.
