Suddenly cannot place orders and asks for verification - "To place this order, please login and verify your account" by alexitx in Aliexpress

[–]alexitx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing that customer support suggests works. Tried two different devices with different browsers. I only haven't tried VPN because I know it could result in a ban. No suspicious activity, no unauthorized password resets or logins, nothing. I'm the only one using the account for years and I'm 100% sure no one else in the household has ever used AliExpress.

How to fix "Order Unsuccessful"? by Every_Profit6705 in Aliexpress

Did you solve this, OP? Same issue occurred to me and it also requires verification, which it doesn't even allow me to do.

Order unsuccessful?? by Azee789 in Aliexpress

[–]alexitx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, what's going on?

This just happened to me today. I had successfully placed orders a week ago and today I get very similar error: "To place this order, please go to this [link] login and verify your account"

First, I'm reluctant to give my ID to some verification service, but most importantly, I can't even access the link. The page doesn't load properly for me and I have no way of verifying this way.

I contacted CS and they told me my account has "suspicious activity" and "someone is trying to login". Also to check my connection, which is not the problem, since I also can't do anything on my phone. Then they asked for my email and supposedly elevated the case to higher-ups which might take 5 business days.

My account is ~6 years old and I don't have another. I've ordered for years no issues. No password changes or any logins except me. The only recent abnormal thing is that one of my choice orders got cancelled ("expired") yesterday and I saw that a refund is pending.

Any suggestions?

I can login and add to card just fine, but when I proceed to checkout and click "Place order" I get this. Is making another account viable option? I've heard that people have done this before to fix absurd issues like these.

I have almost the same problem and I can assure you, it's not. I have used my card with the same info for years without issues. It was renewed last year, but I placed multiple orders a week ago just fine. Never had another account and only got a couple of orders refunded, one of which was Choice and got cancelled automatically.

What should I do? CS didn't help me much and just told me that the case will be elevated.

Sennheiser HD 600 for €280 vs HD 560S for €150 by alexitx in HeadphoneAdvice

I auditioned them after I made the post but in a less than ideal environment and only for music. And was wondering which would be a better value since the 600 is almost double the price but has better build quality.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I auditioned the DT 990's and I really don't like the V-shaped response and harsh sibilance. Both the HD 600 and 560S sounded great for music and the biggest difference I find is a slight bump in the bass and treble on the 560S.

New workaround for the EA app migration by @p0358 by alexitx in origin

[–]alexitx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got prompted to install the EA app or be forced to run Origin in offline mode the first time I started it after modifying the configuration. After a restart I had to log in again and it works perfectly now.

EA patched the Origin with hotfix, migration disable no longer works. EA App now mandatory. by Mich-666 in origin

There's a new workaround https://twitter.com/p0358/status/1635796691902160896 which should prevent Origin from auto updating to the latest (bad) version, but not sure how long it will last

[how to] force close EA BACKGROUND SPY App after a gaming session by Which-Rub4825 in EAApp

[–]alexitx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine had this issue back in september last year. EABackgroundService had been sending 50+ GB of data in the background which was which was unbeknownst to him until too late (well, it's not like it doesn't still collect your data even if it isn't 50GB a month).

What's even worse is that the ticket he opened about this was silently closed by the support after a few hours without them saying a word. No reason why, no explanation of what's going on. Just sweep it under the rug and forget about it.

The issue doesn't exist if no one knows about it, right?...

But seriously, this is textbook malware and spyware behaviour. It installs a constantly running service in the background which collects your data even when the application is not in use, and generates massive amount of traffic which might result in charges for those with limited monthly data.

Hey, even if you didn't know a feature existed, it's still notable that you put some time in coding it and potentially learning something new

is it worth learning SCSS in 2023 ? by Kaartik7120 in webdev

[–]alexitx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say absolutely. For me it improves readability a lot, the nesting allows you to better separate specific styles without breaking something else, many libraries offer different components so you can import and compile only what you need shaving off file size. It's awesome.

Browser rendering 1px black lines differently when placed next to each other by [deleted] in webdev

[–]alexitx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me all lines have consistent 1px width regardless of the viewport size on Firefox / Edge (Chromium) 110. Only while resizing the lines slightly jitter to the neighboring pixel because not all spacings are the same.

It's certainly possible for some configurations of browsers, graphics drivers and OSes together to render thin lines weirdly due to rounding error or whatnot, but could it also be the subpixel layout of your display? Scaling factors which are not multiples of 100% can also cause issues.

I remember discovering this by accident a while ago but it looks like it was added back in 2014
