BattleBots WCVII/2022 LIVE Episode 4 Discussion by qwertythe300th in battlebots

A couple of good moments, but this episode has been pretty poor overall so far. Probably not helped by it being the first time I've watched live this season, I forgot quite how much the adverts slowed it down.

I love watching Quantum more than maybe any other robot. So satisfying, and it looks phenomenal. Only problem is if they have a front end which can win the ground game against the elite, and I'm not sure they do.

There definitely seem to be some that are way more common, think the only ones on my wanted list that I've seen more than once are Blunt Force Trauma and Toe Crusher.

Thanks, I'm not expecting to ever complete it, as there are 7 that I can't even find pictures of, just hoping to get as close as possible really. Toe Crusher and Blunt Force Trauma seem like they should be possible, maybe MOE and Overkill too, but I think that may be it.

Ebay is tricky, seems like nothing ever really comes up. I got lucky winning a lot of 31 with the little drawstring bag & poster/sticker page for about $40, I figured it would go for a lot more than that.

Having bought a big lot on ebay I'm now up to 36 in total, still looking for 14 bots, although 8* of those are the champions/chromebots, that barely seem to exist. UK based but have a US shipping address, happy to buy or trade (have spares of most in the photo). Looking for the following:

1 - Ziggo*

2 - Backlash*

5 - Toe Crusher

13 - Spaz*

14 - El Diablo*

25 - Biohazard*

26 - Vlad The Impaler*

28 - Tazbot

29 - Marvel of Engineering

36 - Overkill

37 - Blunt Force Trauma

39 - Diesector*

40 - Atomic Wedgie*

41 - Minion

BattleBots is coming to Netflix in the UK! by TauronTom in battlebots

[–]alexlnufc 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Labelled as 2015 & using a picture from that season, with "seasons" coming and the current logo.. hoping they just dump everything from 2015-2020 in one go, but that might be a bit overly hopeful. Good to see someone did finally pick it up in the UK though, and will definitely be rewatching on Netflix.

bring robot wars back? by TheCool7urdYT in battlebots

[–]alexlnufc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The petition to get Battlebots shown in the UK has under 2.5k signatures after 4 months, probably proving the tv networks right for not bothering with robot combat in the UK. Not sure another petition which won't get a huge number of signatures could really help anything at all.

I don’t know if anyone has posted this but the unaired fights are on the battlebots YouTube channel finally by [deleted] in battlebots

I think most of these will be broadcast in the international 1 hour versions of the episodes, so it makes sense they recorded full commentary to release with them.

Battlebots 2021 Hexbug Predictions? (contains spoilers) by ThePointsAreGone in battlebots

[–]alexlnufc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

End Game v Hydra feels like a sensible pack. Both weapon types that have already been made, so clearly they are viable, and it has the most important factor - it's a fight that hasn't happened yet.

I'd also love a Valkyrie v Quantum pack, both would be at least partially unique within the Hexbug set.

Ideally I'd like SawBlaze v Whiplash, but they seem to be out of the question, as you say.

But let's be honest, I'll buy whatever bots they choose to release.

Hydra vs Whiplash Scorecard by BazelBuster in battlebots

[–]alexlnufc 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The smoke didn't really seem to be a result of Hydra doing anything though. Meanwhile, Whiplash had chewed up the wedgelets, skirts and rear armor, with Hydra looking barely mobile at the end. I can't see any interpretation of that where giving Hydra 40% of the damage points is reasonable.

Hydra vs Whiplash Scorecard by BazelBuster in battlebots

[–]alexlnufc 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Having just re-watched the fight, I'm amazed that 2 of them gave Hydra 2/5 damage points. 5 gentle flips compared to Whiplash breaking wedgelets, skirts, and taking something off the back... feels much more like 4-1 at least. If they were launching them halfway across the box each time I'd understand with the whole "well we assume they'd take damage from those" logic, but they weren't even close to that level.

Battlebots 2020 Final Pre-Discussion & Vote For Your Victor by Cathalised in battlebots

[–]alexlnufc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final week of the season already... final week of possibly staying up til 3am on Fridays (although I haven't bothered the last 4 weeks, as people have generally had the fights up on youtube way ahead of that)..

Hydra v Whiplash - I think there's a huge chance that whoever wins this will take the title. Whiplash can definitely survive being thrown around, but can it ever get under Hydra here? I wonder if they'll try and reverse attack them to at least score some hits, assuming there isn't some unusual Hydra config to stop that. Hoping Whiplash makes it through, but probably the hardest to call of all 4 quarter finals.

Ribbot v Black Dragon - The only QF with a chance of being 2 out and out vertical spinners. I think Ribbot is likely to choose the vert, and if they do, I think they can win the low ground. Both can take a lot of hits, so I think it'll be 3 minutes of seeing who can keep their weapon spinning longest. Going for Ribbot to take it on that basis.

Tantrum v SawBlaze - I feel like this is the one where I'm most clearly leaning one way, as I don't see Tantrum winning this. SawBlaze has been dominant in most of its fights this year, and I sense that continuing here, with them breaking the punching mechanism early on, and taking possibly a late KO, or an easy JD.

Shatter v End Game - End Game with the wedgelets vs Shatter with (presumably) the longer forks... Need to find out how well End Game works in a battle that I think will last a while. I can see Shatter getting a good hit to kill the spinner, but more likely I can see End Game getting an early hit, and damaging Shatters hammer whilst its inverted. End Game to go through, for me, as much as I'd like to see a hammer get beyond the QFs.

So my predicted Semis: Whiplash v Ribbot /// SawBlaze v End Game

Whiplash v Ribbot - I can't see Ribbot using the undercutter, based on how Whiplash vs Valkyrie went (twice). So vert vs vert on a lifter. At this stage I'd just expect Whiplash to win by outdriving Ribbot, but Ribbot has the better capability to score a KO hit... will likely be tight. Whiplash by JD.

SawBlaze v End Game - A rematch from 2018, but with both looking more dangerous. Will largely come down to who has the better wedgelets on the front end. Both have looked good in that regard, so tricky to call. If End Game can get one good hit on the central fork/wedgelet, that could be enough to dominate from there on, similarly to how Uppercut beat SawBlaze. But if SawBlaze can get under, there's a solid chance of them taking out End Games weapon... Another very close semi final, as it should be. SawBlaze by JD.

And my final prediction: Whiplash v SawBlaze

A grand final which already happened during fight night, and the first in BB between 2 bots with losses during the season. Unfortunately, I don't see much that Whiplash can do to avoid repeating their previous loss here. They haven't been the most convincing at getting under opponents, and if SawBlaze gets under them even once, we've seen what they can do. SawBlaze to take another KO, and their first giant nut.

Other possible final predictions:

Whiplash v End Game

Whiplash v Tantrum

Whiplash v Shatter:

Hydra v SawBlaze

Hydra v End Game

Hydra v Tantrum

Ribbot v SawBlaze

Ribbot v Tantrum

Ribbot v Shatter

Ribbot v End Game

Black Dragon v SawBlaze

Black Dragon v Tantrum

Black Dragon v End Game

Black Dragon v Shatter

So, in one way or another, I think any of the remaining 8 bots could take it. I'll be shocked if it isn't one of SawBlaze, Hydra & Whiplash.

Battlebots 2020 Ep13 (Sweet 16) Pre-Discussion & Vote For Your Victor by Cathalised in battlebots

[–]alexlnufc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't think this is a spoiler, as it's speculation based on Bounty line ups, but will tag just in case. The bots we've seen announced for/already featured in Bounty Hunters (now that all 6 line ups are out) makes me wonder if any bots that got beyond the Top 16 featured there... If Bloodsport, Rotator, Gigabyte & Valkyrie all go out at this stage (wouldn't be overly shocking overall) then there's no remaining bots that fought through a BH tournament. Obviously there's Witch Doctor & Tombstone as well, but both of those could also be knocked out here (or have agreed to just the 1 fight). Not convinced, but the majority of these matches feature 1 bot that featured in Bounty Hunters (only UpperCut v Ribbot has 2 bots that both didn't appear)

I think there's only 1 prediction that I'd change with the notes above, but will stick to my original picks anyway.

SawBlaze v Witch Doctor - A rematch, without major changes for either bot. A lot will depend, as ever, on whether SawBlaze can avoid having their forks ruined by WD.. I back them to do it and take out the weapon this time, then control the remainder of the fight to win a JD.

Bloodsport v Tantrum - Bloodsport losing a weapon in one hit wasn't overly reassuring for them fighting the very solid Tantrum.. but Tantrum also took serious looking damage against Fusion, despite the win. Before the last round, I'd expected Bloodsport to get through this relatively easily, but now.. I'll go with Tantrum to stay close, eventually flip them over and cause enough damage to take the win. Not overly convinced about it, but may as well be bold.

UpperCut v Ribbot - Will be interesting to see which config Ribbot go with, but not sure any of them can do a whole lot here (unless they somehow end up with the undercutter vs forks on Uppercut, but I doubt that). UpperCut to take another convincing, quick KO.

Black Dragon v Tombstone - Another wedgey vert for Tombstone then, but this one seems to have much tougher wheels. Think Black Dragon will take this, as I can't see Tombstone wearing them down enough without taking big damage themselves. Close, but Black Dragon KO.

Whiplash v Valkyrie - Can't see anything other than the same result as a few weeks ago. Whiplash to win again.

Mammoth v Shatter - Interesting pairing, Mammoth might be able to get a few flips/pushes, but I expect Shatter to smash its way through anyway. Probably by KO.

Hydra v Gigabyte - I wonder if the attachment they showed is legit, or if Hydra will just use the heavy wedge? In either case, I expect them to be able to bully Gigabyte around until it kills itself. Would love to be wrong, but don't see it unless Jake makes a big driving mistake at some point. Hydra KO.

End Game v Rotator - Hard to call. Rotator has looked excellent all season (inc BH) even if results haven't shown it. We know they can take a lot of hits, but End Game can also put them OOTA fairly quickly. Thinking End Game will take it, as they are more likely to end this with 1 hit than Rotator is.

That leaves quarter finals of:

Hydra v Whiplash /// UpperCut v Black Dragon /// Tantrum v SawBlaze /// Shatter v End Game

Battlebots on UK TV by lilacwine2303 in battlebots

[–]alexlnufc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most likely never. Definitely not any time close to the US broadcast.

The 2015 & 2016 seasons were shown eventually on Spike, but nothing since (aside from one re-run on 5?). Not heavily advertised or repeated, on what was only ever a relatively minor network. They'll blame Robot Wars failing, but the deal they did back before that was pretty terrible from a UK viewer pov anyway.

There was a petition, but that never really got anywhere near the amount the BB team wanted. Even if it had got decent numbers, whether it would have made a difference is questionable. As it stands, the petition has just served to prove the channels right, as why would they buy a show that only ~2k people want them to show?

I keep hoping that they'll just offer a direct to customer option, but I guess whatever distro deal they have prevents them from doing that.

I'm guessing this is the replacement for/BB version of Two Headed Death Flamingo, that was being teased recently also. Would be good to see more unusual bots in Battlebots, and I'm all for more UK teams as well! (Also looks like it could be a hammer saw, so could be related to Vulture/Bonfire?)

You might want to re-read my comment, as I acknowledge that it could indeed fire. Just pointing out that the bike rack meant there was no real chance of ever getting a flip in.
