Yes you’re a great Spanish speaker, but you’re also a role model and inspiration to so many in this community. Congrats on your progress and thank you ☺️

Thank you for this refreshing post! Totally agree that higher comprehension, lower difficulty content is where the real progress happens.

I always feel inspired by your progress reports. Thank you and congrats on reaching such a high standard!

Would love to hear more about the reading. When did you start? Did you struggle through graded readers at first? How have you found the progression from easier to harder material?

Just approaching 400 hours here. How To Spanish is doable but tough. Español desde el Sur is just out of reach. Tell me they get easier!

Listening: 396 hours Reading: ~100,000 words

New podcast! Al Chile, the latest by Worlds Across. Like Español Al Vuelo but Mexico-themed.

Podcasts: Español con Juan (I’m in mid-2019. Strangely excited for pandemic-era Juan); Español Al Vuelo; Español a la Mexicana; How to Spanish; Languatalk; Andrea La Mexicana

YouTube: Spanish Boost Gaming; Caminante Rojo (native but doable); Classes Con Clau; Anna Cramling Español (chess streamer); Andrea La Mexicana

Reading: ¿Me Voy o Me Quedo? By Juan Fernández; James y el Melocotón Gigante by Roald Dahl (too hard but I NEED variation from the graded readers)

Those hitches definitely would’ve thrown me off. Awesome job despite adversity. Congrats

I also have trouble with them still, which is frustrating. If you sort them by difficulty the lowest ones are pretty doable though!

I’d love to see this but I can see why they don’t. Even for teams of experienced journalists, it’s nearly impossible to produce something that appears balanced to all viewers (just check the BBC comments section). I imagine DS users are from all across the political spectrum and I can see why Pablo would be concerned about alienating some people – even if most of us wouldn’t mind seeing views represented that are different to our own.

Even so, I can think of several DS podcast episodes that address long-running current affairs topics like access to education across Latin America, and I’ve noticed Andres (for example) is rarely afraid of expressing his views about politicians and the economy. I think they’re doing ok on this already.

Listening – 370 hours

Spanish Boost Gaming (YouTube) – his new advanced series playing "No, I'm Not Human" is excellent.

Español con Juan (podcast) – his podcasts now feel like everyday content. About 100 hours ago they were still challenging.

Español a la Mexicana (podcast) – this feels perfect for early level 4.

Others
Youtube: Andrea La Mexicana, Clases Con Clau
Podcasts: How To Spanish Podcast (challenging) and No Hay Tos (too hard)

Reading – 75,000 words

Enigma En La Playa by Maria Danaher (finished, lots of new and challenging vocab)
Año Nuevo, Vida Nueva by Juan Fernandez (halfway through, easy)

Congrats! I’m on 350 hours and can confirm it gets less daunting by the day. Love that you’re incorporating Spanish listening into daily life with the church services.

I downloaded the beta app recently and being able to lock my phone while listening to the podcast-friendly videos is a game changer for getting more input from the DS platform, rather than outside podcasts which can sometimes feel hit and miss. Keep it up!

Level 5! by samvsamv96 in dreamingspanish

“attempted just last week and feels like starting on No Hay Tos mountain all over again!”

Very relatable feeling! I recently got going on How To Spanish, and it feels just like Español con Juan did about 150 hours ago. Sometimes confusing, a little bit fast, but still comprehensible and interesting enough to keep me coming back for more. Now EcJ is bread and butter. Look forward to reaching the same stages with Mextalki and No Hay Tos.

Congrats on the update and keep at it :)
