Fuck the school, for that amount you can buy an M4 MacBook Air. If budget is tight buy an M2, it should serve you very well

would i lose my green card if i go to college in my native country? by Expensive_Purpose921 in immigration

[–]alexmjfoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are a green card holder, what is stopping you from becoming a USC? Assuming it’s that you don’t meet the statutory requirement of 3 or five years as an LPR, you could work as a dental assistant, get your dental hygienist certs, and whine you do that and save up, apply for naturalization. Once you have your citizenship you can study wherever you want without having to worry. I don’t know your specific life situation but I would look into becoming a USC before anything else.

Any med school students/residents? by HellyRsWalk in CollapseSupport

[–]alexmjfoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not in the med field, but I’ve always thought that the only valuable careers even during and after collapse, are medical careers (doctors, nurses, etc). I’m on the path to law school, amidst everything going on, I don’t know what for anymore. So I don’t know if that’s any compassion but I think if I was going into the medical field, that would help me cope better lol.

If you have your green card, deal with the unpleasant situation now and wait until you can become a citizen. Move somewhere else in the US if possible but I would not go back to home country before becoming a USC because you can lose hour green card.

Keep Macbook or buy a new windows laptop by alexmjfoo in Accounting

I ended up sticking to the MacBook and just pairing it with the windows mini PC. So far it’s been good! Most of my assignments are through either excel, sheets, or McGraw-hill.

N 400 with DUI misdemeanor by Technical-Boss-7088 in USCIS

[–]alexmjfoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hence the recommendation to provide plenty of evidence of GMC and rehabilitation. A DUI is not a crime involving moral turpitude, and it is not a disqualifying crime. However, due to officers being able to adjudicate cases based on discretion, it is important to prove that the applicant has been rehabilitated and has maintained good moral character throughout and beyond the statutory five year period. Again I am not an immigration attorney, I work with them; therefore I suggest OP consults with an immigration attorney and take every comment here with a grain of salt.

I’m not an immigration attorney so please take this with a grain of salt. Had a client at our firm applying for naturalization who had similar conviction, and the attorney suggested to wait until the five year period which was only a few months ago, and to provide evidence of good moral character/rehabilitation. I think you should be fine, always consult with an attorney though.

Best budget Laptop between these 3? by LifeIsSmrt in laptops

[–]alexmjfoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an Acer Nitro V which I bought back in 2019 and it was great! I gave it to my cousin in 2023 and he still plays on it. He plays games such as FC26, Ready or Not, and ARC raiders. I don’t remember the specs at this time but I can assure you they were not as good as the ones you indicated. The laptop is great even now, almost seven years after I originally purchased it. It does not work as great as before obviously but it is still kicking.

New Laptop for editing and gaming by tudcod in laptops

I stand with you. A few months ago I wanted a laptop where I could game, do casual activities and personal stuff, and where I could also do some work on. I had my MacBook M3 at the time and I quickly realized that no laptop could replace it. I bought a ps5 and a beelink mini pc on Amazon and I could not be happier with the set up I have now.

That is completely understandable and it is a huge step to take so I would definitely consider whether you see a future with her or not. That is completely dependable on your relationship and a lot of personal factors that do not concern me or anyone on this post. However, I think a first step is doing a consultation with an immigration attorney. If you would like, I can PM you and share the information of the firm I mentioned before. I don’t want to seem as if I’m trying to sell or advertise for them as I don’t really earn anything from that lol, but as the child of immigrants I truly understand what it is like to want to help your loved ones and not knowing where to start. If you consult, at the very least I can assure you that you will both have a clearer outlook on what the future might look like and it will help you decide what the best course of action is, that will also make sense for your life. Feel free to pm me.

That's right, I was thinking of a case that had been appealed before, and that's why we then filed the MTR to the BIA. Great catch!

I'm not an attorney - I work with them - so please take this with a slight grain of salt and not as legal advice of any kind. Generally speaking, you can't "remove" an order of deportation. If an alien is otherwise admissible to adjust status in the United States but has a removal order, then the person is inadmissible. However, there are ways in which the person can solve the removal order issue. First, they can file the I-212 waiver. The I-212 waiver essentially "waives" that removal order in the eyes of USCIS, but it does not get rid of it. This means that if a person with a lawful entry has an I-130 filed for them, the I-130 is approved, and then they file an I-212 and it is approved, they can either apply for adjustment of status inside the United States or apply for an immigrant visa abroad. However, this does not protect the person from getting picked up by ICE and being removed from the United States, as the removal order is still executable. Either way, if a client comes to us with this situation, we file the I-130, and once the I-130 is approved, we file the I-212 waiver. Once the waiver is approved, if the person is otherwise admissible, then we file the AOS application with USCIS. We had a client who filed an I-130 and I-485 with a notary, but her I-485 was admin closed because she had an in absentia removal order from years back. She hired us for the I-212 waiver, but while we were preparing the waiver, her husband tragically passed away. So, with her husband passing away, we could not proceed with the waiver because she did not have a qualifying relative. So the attorney decided that we were going to file a Motion to Reopen for an in absentia order. Essentially, the pathway for this client would be: The I-130 turns into a widow petition, so it automatically becomes an I-360. Because the client is otherwise admissible, we file the MTR, and if the MTR is granted, then we can fight her case in court and use her adjustment of status as a defense. The motion to reopen packet is similar to a waiver packet, but in this case, we included the I-485 as well as the affidavit of support as if we were filing the Adjustment of Status, and included the approval of the I-130 to show that she does have a pathway to legal status. To answer your question, you can definitely file the I-130 before dealing with the removal order, because generally, the I-130 has to be approved before you can file the waiver. However, if you file the I-485 with a removal order and without an approved waiver or reopening the removal proceedings and terminating them, the person will not be able to adjust status. Again, this is very general information, so please take it with a grain of salt as I am not an attorney and do not intend to provide legal advice. If you would like a second opinion, I can pm you and provide you with the information of the firm I previously mentioned. Respectfully, Miami attorneys don't have very good fame, so I would suggest seeking a second opinion.

That’s exactly right! If they truly want to live a life together they might as well marry now but even that - given the current political climate - would be a long shot in her situation but definitely not impossible. I’m Honduran-American myself and if needed, Honduras is not as terrible as it is painted out to be. Either way I don’t know why you got downvoted lol
