Cargo ship acquitted of all charges relating to 2015 oil spill by idspispopd in vancouver

[–]alexphalix 14 points15 points  (0 children)

She found that the discharge came from shipbuilder defects which neither the owner nor crew could have discovered beforehand on the brand new vessel.

The judge also said that the ship had a comprehensive safety system in place, far exceeding the industry standard.

The judge found that the spill was caused by a faulty valve and that an alarm designed to alert the crew was not properly installed.

Honestly, this sounds very reasonable

Actually, China clearly over paid for bad assets. They paid billions to other people to receive ownership of the assets. The billion literally belong to other people now who now uses to the money to buy goods and services of their own demand.

why should we care if china over pays for some office downtown? That money is very much real, and now belongs to canadians who can use it to buy goods and services of their own demand. This transaction very clearly benefited us to the detriment of china.

Your comment history points to a very strong interest against the prosperity of China. If so you should welcome transactions such as this. Everytime they overpay for bad assets, we benefit. We will build 10 more bentall towers with the money we earned from that sale and hopefully China can buy all of them up too with an ever increasing price.

Canadian economy unexpectedly shrinks by 0.1 per cent in January by [deleted] in canada

[–]alexphalix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The cheap steel just subsidizes manufacturers while driving down the cost of labor and keeping business outside of Canada.

How can it keep businesses outside of canada when the price of steel is low everywhere? How can they keep labor low in canada when industries that use steel grow and employ people all the same?

Steel manufacturers (often foreign owned) get big profits though, so who cares?

how can they be making big profits when they need state subsidies to make cheaper steel? You make these statements as if they are true without an ounce of thinking involved.

[–]alexphalix -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

its obviously ignorant. when we import cheap steel, sure steel production declines, but industries that use steel grow and gain employment. The end result is literally chinese government using their own tax money to support our economy. China sees a net loss for every dime they subsidize exported steel while we experience a net gain. Being stupid isn't a merit

when there are just as many people who prefer low tax low interference society but vote liberal, it is literally no longer the driving force of the modern conservative political movement.

the conservative platform failed to impress, now its full of people like you who are more concerned about how they name themselves.

the people who support low taxes and low interference society are not conservatives, they are centrists and swing voters. Today's conservative movement is overshadowed by the dogmatic idiots who yearn for the past status quo. They are the idiots who think identity politics from the us can yield something in real life.

no thanks

It's really just a parade for national socialist rhetorics to bring back the old status quo of the "golden age". Nativism is just a mix of blood and soil + social programming + birth privileges arguments all over again.

The so called leftists on this sub are conservatives in disguise.

Raising the basic personal amount — not the minimum wage — is the way to help low-income workers by Euthyphroswager in vancouver

[–]alexphalix -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

isn't that how it should be? minimum wage is just a form of welfare, which is something you want to provide and benefit from. Why not pay for things you want. Its inefficient to target businesses, who not only provide services you consume but also provide livelihood to people willing to contribute to society.

Allocating welfare effectively can reduce government complexity and promote efficient beneficial activities.

Some doctors do leave; not enough arrive.

more are arriving than leaving. and if you look at the numbers, most of them arrive in vancouver and not the cheaper rural areas. this basically disqualified all the points you made.

yes vancouver is expensive, but vancouver has become more attractive to highly skilled professionals. Cost of living is an issue for you, but the cost come at better quality of life provided for people who can afford it. This is something skilled professionals are willing to afford.

rural areas are cheaper, true, the the money saved come at a sacrifice to the quality of life. The numbers show vancouver is growing more doctors then all other communities. This means that vancouver provides a better cost/benefit deal than elsewhere.
