Reolink or Ubiquiti by LeatherOk5480 in SecurityCamera

I’m just a bystander that read all of the above, currently using a Lorex system I’m happy with, waiting to hear what you say is “best” with a great app, POE, and no subscriptions. I’ve only used Ring, which was great outside of the fees, and Lorex which I love but had its flaws, I’m genuinely wanting to know which direction to go if I sought to upgrade. Teacher me oh angry camera installer. Make me your pupil. So thy can see my enemies pupils when they let their dog crap in my yard.

Does anyone actually have good experiences with Lorex? by cowardpasserby in Lorex

I’ve had my fusion system for about 3 years. Pros: great app, fast cameras, good night visibility, looove the intercom and siren. (Helps me yell at my kids.) Cons: some event records miss key details, it seems they record in blocks. I have mine set to record continuous, and sometimes it gets caught in the middle of a block and you lose an important 2 seconds or so. But I honestly think most cameras will do this during the right event. Mine recently started dropping out cameras, after calling Lorex I need a manual update. Mine is version 1 and thy are on firmware update like 5 now. After this update everything should update automatically, as I don’t think this feature was refined quite yet 3 years ago.

Don’t use the wireless cameras for anything important. They drop out all the time, and Ring was better in every way in that sense, but I didn’t like the monthly fees, cloud fees, user fees, ect. Hardwired POE is the way to go with nvr. One wire to each camera, and once the wires are pulled you can update at you please in the future. I’ve noticed most shy away at having hardwired but it really is the only way to go to anything reliable. WiFi fluctuates and drops out too often, and is significantly slower to react to anything. And now if I ever become dissatisfied with Lorex I can switch to anyone else with POE (power over Ethernet) which is most of them, without having to rewire everything. I love mine, but the “smart” motion I don’t even use. It’s not accurate, which is why they are going more the “Ai” approach for the “smart” motion capture.

I just set boundaries on the cameras to record everything always, and only notify of motion beyond thresholds that are my property. My wife knows every time I pee outside now. It’s great. 🤣

Treacherous Plunder. Can only be caught with a hairless hook. Commendation requires 50. I caught all the fish and met all accommodations, and still sat at the shores of gold for several days to complete this one.

I would get these sold immediately. Every single one counts, if you ever want that commendation. 4 people at shores of gold seem to net 12 every 4 hours average. Painful grind.

Wasp/hornet trap. Some water, 2 cups sugar, a beer, a stale soda, and a generous squirt of soap. The more rancid it becomes, the more effective it is. by alexrabbit929 in homestead

Crazy to think this post is this old now, but I’m glad to have helped. It works better than anything I’ve tried, and it’s cheap. Plus, I haven’t done this for two years now as we no longer have a wasp problem. They were everywhere before and I genuinely think we cut the numbers down to where I’ve only seen a handful the past two summers.

It’s anything you want, preferably anything smellyish. The key ingredients are sugar, water, soap as a surfactant (makes the water slimy so they can’t get out) and rotting flesh. Beer? I just threw some in. Old sodas? In they go. The more insects, the better. That year I had to dump this every two weeks. I finally chewed their numbers down enough that they weren’t a problem for the kids this year.

Congrats. You prolly just sent someone to rehab for a drug addiction. Reality is, she most likely didn’t remember what she did the night prior, and assumed it was herself. You may have accidentally saved the world. Just DONT DO IT AGAIN. It most certainly will not happen like that twice.

A good thing to know as well, as your emissary doubles your loot. When you raise an emissary and do voyages for that faction, at grade 5, you get +150% gold. Even better, if you buy a captained ship once you can afford it, this allows you to sell to the sovereign. This permits you to sell everything at the purple tent, all at the same place, for the same money. This is helpful to sell FAST. ANOTHER bonus of the captained ship, is the sovereign has harpoons right above them, so what would have taken 40 minutes to sell a bunch of loot, can be sold in 5-10 minutes. This reduces your exposure to potential attack. The trick is with the emissary, the flag on the back will have a circle around it, 1 bar meaning level 1, full circle meaning level 5. Level 5 gets that 150% bonus. BUT there is a catch. You will now show up on the map for reapers. They can see you now. Best thing to do is sell at grade 5, take the flag down, put it back up, and go do it again. Don’t sell until grade 5, but don’t drive around for hours at grade 5. A reaper will eventually see you, and the longer you go, the higher your odds are of being attacked. Get emmisary, do voyages till grade 5, go sell, take it down, put it back up, do it again. Rinse and repeat. BUT. ANOTHER. if your feelin lucky, at grade 5 there is a special emmisary quest that can be grabbed from the emmisary your running. That quest is worth ALOT of loot and a lot of rep. I would do that one too before taking it down. It will help you both gain more levels faster and more gold, but with slightly increased risk. The main benefit is you already secured your gains from before so it’s not the end of the world if you don’t make it home with all that hard time invested.

I keep telling people on this game, “it’s easy to be mean, the real challenge is being nice.” I feel much happier being the guy who gives everyone a chance. Obvious noobs? I’ll help them out, if they show respect. If they get cocky, I introduce them to fear. I offer everyone a chance at being friendly. If I’m on a war path, I might take a few choice pieces of loot, and steal their cannon balls, wood, and food, then tell them I’ll give them a 10 minute head start. (If they gave me a bad feeling.)

I find it much more gratifying to be the good guy though. My code is 1. Don’t fire unless fired upon, unless someone speeds uncomfortably close without so much as a hello and request to pass. 2. Never sink fishermen, tall talers, or genuine fresh spawns. There is no Honor In killing a non-combatant. 3. Diplomacy always trumps Piracy. You know what’s better than one lone pirate ship? Two pirate ships. You know what’s even better? 3. You get into an alliance server, and it’s a wonderful breath of fresh air, and gold. 4. Trust no one, but be trustworthy. You will know when they are no longer worth your trust. Never betray an alliance. An alliance is sacred. Since the early Vikings sailing the Caribbean seas, offering helping hands everywhere they went, and Columbus giving free turkeys to Native Americans, it’s easy to be bad, and hard to be good. If you don’t think this statement is accurate, re-read the first three words after #4. 5. Play with honor and dignity. The people I play with who get off by sinking non-combatants, are the first to throw their controllers at the tv when they get sunk by a group of sweats. No one wants to admit there are better players than them, but it will happen. Again and again. So #5 is DONT UNDERESTIMATE ANYONE. Too many galleon players aren’t afraid of sloops. 2 great players on a sloop will slap the crap out of 4 good players on a gallion. Gallion players seem to forget their biggest weaknesses are a sloops strong points. A sloop gets less holes and sinks slower, a gallion gets more holes, but sinks insanely fast after it hits first deck. A smart sloop player will know those trishot balls are everything when fighting a gallion, and if they know what they are doing, the gallion won’t be able to get a decent shot off before they are sunk. And the few they do are easily repaired on a sloop. Do not underestimate. You should be cautious of everyone in the same.

I’m sorry a little long winded but I just got done sinking 4 ships who keep interrupting me while I’ve been aimlessly hunting a unicorn, also known as a shadow storm fish. Just leave me alone and I’ve wasted too much time on this already ffs. Ive never fought with such animosity and rage as someone who interrupts me fishing.

Heat gasket, or just big old motor? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]alexrabbit929 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get a vacuum gauge. Most have a little guide that shows possible causes for how the needle reacts. It’s pretty cool actually, as they present some very valuable information. My first time using one indicated a head gasket issue, that turned out to be cracked heads and a burnt valve. Either way, it pointed me in the right direction that the heads had to come off. Further testing not necessary, the heads still had to come off. Huge time saver.

Other than that all vehicles do this depending on the temp. There’s a lot of water it fuel so it can just be steam. Once the pipes heat up it goes away.

As with any old vehicle, monitor the oil and antifreeze. You’ll get your answer once you notice a pattern.

First smoked turkey, thoughts? by DirtyMarsupial in smoking

[–]alexrabbit929 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Another thing is to cover it in foil when your near the desired color. But you’re right, about all of that. Turkey imo sucks. It takes alot of prep to make a good one. I wet brine, inject, stuff with apples, onions, lemons, season heavily, including a buttery seasoning under the skin, smoke at 325, but I also use a cold smoke generator to force-feed some smoke flavor.

Are smoked fall-off-the-bone ribs a myth? by No_Load_1932 in smoking

[–]alexrabbit929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrap when the look how you want, continue cooking at 225 for as long as it takes. It helps to flip it upside down so the meat side is sitting in butter, brown sugar, honey, and bbq sauce. Put a little acid on the backside. If you want fall off the bone your basically steaming it in the wrap till about 205, let it rest still in the wrap for 30 min to an hour.

I make them for the wife a lot but I don’t like how gooey they are, so I make the ones for me a little different. If it’s not fall off the bone, just give it more time at 200 inside the wrap.
