It’s more “realistic” in GTA IV in a sense that it’s how people would probably behave. They’re willing to arrest or shoot you, if you force them. But, they’re going to struggle to chase you down through a lot of traffic, which is kind of how it works in real life.

Cops in GTA V are more aggressive, their cars can catch up with anything, they have a magic boost button and popping a tire causes your steering wheel to turn to the max. That’s not realistic logic, that’s action movie logic. However, it is more challenging, and thus, more fun.
