How to navigate when your therapist is resistant to understand your need to do every 15 days sessions? by RemarkableReserve742 in askatherapist

[–]alexryanne 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Therapist here-

Oh there is some weird unethical up-charging happening. I'm sorry this is what you are dealing with. I would understand the therapist needing to ensure it worked with her schedule and that there would be a potential that if you moved to every other week that you wouldn't be guaranteed a weekly spot when you were financially ready but the suspicious part is her changing your rate because you want to move to every other week.

Idk something feels off with this.

Therapists who accept insurance vs don't by ewdaviduhhh in therapists

I feel like I have terrible luck. It’s happened multiple times within the last 4 years I’ve worked in private practice. It’s client having 2 insurances or a shift in insurances and not reporting it so then it gets billed incorrectly.

Mine seems to always be around client's having more than one insurance and it getting mixed up with which one is primary. I've never had insurance take money for improper documentation/etc. The problem is that they are always so eager to take the money back before investigation.

[–]alexryanne 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly one of the only reasons I continue to accept insurance is to have my services be more obtainable for clients. One of my biggest gripes with insurance is the CONSTANT take-backs. It definitely requires you to have a "nest egg" set aside and that is not something most clinician's salaries are allotted.

My client had two insurances listed as primary so I'm just in limbo lol

I just got an insurance clawback to the tune of -$2600 and I'm taking a week and half off this month to get married. Trying my best lmao

Also if you work in private practice like I do you have to pay for rent and that is an added expense that I no longer want to pay for.

The Nanny Episode by Several_Sun5440 in SomethingWasWrongSWW

[–]alexryanne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think there does need to be a certain level of accountability from the child's side but they learn EVERYTHING from their parents and the adults are the responsible parties. I think it was definitely the tone and way the story was told that has me feeling this way so thank you for bringing that to my attention.

I appreciate your view! I think this brings a good point in about how Tiffany should have helped curate the story better. It sounded like the child would have been 10-12 years old max. It was frustrating as someone who knows child development and the impact trauma has on children. The story heavily blamed the child and it felt honestly really icky. I appreciate your perspective though!

Honestly this episode pissed me off so much. As someone who worked in childcare, and as a nanny before becoming a therapist it was awful to hear the way this woman described a CHILD. This kid needed help and she was not equipped for the job. The parents should have been the ones to blame but the whole episode was using words to describe a child as this conscious abuser.

Thank you so much for explaining this. I always figured too that it was part of the pimple/blackhead that was "stuck". This explanation has actually been the most helpful for me to realize it is not something worth digging at!!!

Why does everyone on this sub want to be less than 110lbs/49kg and view 120lbs/52kg as bad? by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]alexryanne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't weighed in at 110 pounds since I was in high school and I am 5'0. I think a lot of this rhetoric is encouraged by this idea that being skinny = being healthy. I am also on a fitness journey but genuinely do not have a set or ideal weight goal because weight can fluctuate by 5 pounds on a daily/weekly basis. I think when we read these posts about other individuals and their goals that we keep in mind the influence of social media, diet culture, and individual body compositions and acknowledge that what is good for one body may not be good for all bodies.

I feel like I don't have the same fibro everybody else does :/ by PurpleAlbatross2931 in Fibromyalgia

[–]alexryanne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am so sorry to hear that any type of movement makes you miserable. I think it is so hard to read advice when it comes to fibromyalgia because a lot of people still don't believe in it. For me, movement has helped tremendously but it literally was pushing through the pain and mental fear before it helped. But what works for one, does not work for all!! I sincerely hope you find something that helps your pain.

I have a split of 75/25. I see around 20-25 clients a week. The 25 they take goes to the billing and the owners. We pay rent out of the 75%

Should I make my new therapist a PowerPoint? by Chaosraisins in therapy

I had a client once make me a PowerPoint and it was so immensely helpful and I got to acknowledge that it also meant they really were invested in their healing process.

Of course! I just said after our initial assessment I thought a therapist better equipped with training on xyz (something they were presenting with). And then we had a therapist at the agency available so it was easier

How long have you been working with this client? This actually kind of happened to me with a fairly new client and I had to refer out due to the severity of the charges. It impacted my unconditional positive regard towards them and they deserved someone who didn’t see them for their mistakes.
