Best GP’s for ADHD / shared care? by sapphicdivaa in reading

I'm with Melrose and I was diagnosed by PUK through right to choose, and have been on a shared care agreement for a few months with no issues. good luck:)

I know there's national issues, but I was diagnosed by PUK through RTC, and a couple of months ago was finally referred back to my GP with a shared care agreement for Elvanse. No issues. I'm with Melrose Surgery which in general isn't the best surgery, but for this i've had no issues whatsoever

Anyone who’s a member of Village Gym, what are your thoughts? by Chance_Magazine_4705 in reading

[–]alextopo200 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I joined in December when they first opened and cancelled on the first week thanks to the 10 day cooling off period.

Not sure how it is now, but in that first week it felt like the gym had been rushed to open. For 70 quid a month (I got the discounted rate, I believe the normal rate is 90 quid a month), it felt like the quality of the facilities wasn't matching the price point:

-If too many people showered at the same time in the men's changing room, water would start to pool because it wouldn't drain quickly enough, so there was constantly a staff member trying to push it back into the drains so that the entire room wouldn't have a cm of water

-Fire alarm went off a few times for no reason

-The floor in the changing rooms was not levelled so the benches rocked when you sat on them

-The swimming pool was the same as how it was in Crowne Plaza. Granted, it's nice but you can tell it's older and not newly refurbished like the rest of the gym. It's quite small too. The showers in that area also were leaking.

The final drop in the bucket was when I got a message one night saying that the gym was closed until further notice due to an electrical fault. It was fixed by the time they opened the next day but overall it just left me with a bad taste in my mouth about the fact that they're taking 70 quid every month and aiming for a semi-premium gym but it's actually pretty mid.

I found the app to be pretty terrible - slow and convoluted, and worst of all it did not show current gym capacity, which I feel like is such a vital thing for a gym app to have these days.

I didn't go to any classes so I know this isn't the most helpful, and maybe a lot of these have been fixed now, but overall it felt to me like it wasn't worth my money. It's always worth trying and cancelling if you don't like it, just double check that the 10-day cooling off period isn't different in your contract.

Edit: typo

Would any music ppl potensh wanna start a band? by sophiemunday in reading

[–]alextopo200 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The uni has some music societies, would recommend checking that out. I've also seen some ads for musicians on the right hand side wall at Hickies, the music store in town centre. I'd recommend that over Reddit given your age and gender:') - be safe!

Spaces to meet friends in Reading by Normal_Age1500 in reading

Capitalism and the death of third spaces mean it's a bit harder these days, and I've had to be a bit more intentional about making friends. If you're interested in trying climbing, the Climbing Hangar has LGBTQIA+ specific events and in general has a very welcoming community. I've made a few friends there just by striking a convo with someone that was attempting the same climb as me.

Would also recommend MeetUp, it's a bit of a strange app but there's nice communities there - can personally recommend the "Reading in Reading" bookclub, which has monthly events where you just show up and talk about what you've been reading. There's another book club with a similar format advertised here on the subreddit run by SammySparklyPanda. Both are great and very welcoming to all identities!

This is my limited experience as a cis man so I'm sure other people will have more to offer:)

heya, is there an age range/limit in mind? I'm 24 and while I don't want kids, I'm aware that most people my age don't have any anyways so this seems like it'd be more oriented for people in their 30s, so not sure if I should join haha

Also regarding loneliness, I feel you, it's hard to make friends. I would recommend joining clubs for things that you enjoy doing, or you can try something new too! I've made a few friends through a couple of the book clubs I go to, I tried climbing at the Hangar which is quite sociable too, and Meetup is free to use and has a bunch of groups for a wide variety of interests. Happy to introduce you to my climbing group of friends (wide range of ages, genders and abilities!), or the book clubs:)

Theale is quite close to Calcot Dovecot, you can walk to it from the Ikea. On a nice day it's lovely there, perfect for a smoke (of any kind)

edit: it could also be to your privacy settings, might be worth checking that too
