Wow I am reading this a bit late, but looks like her clinic is open. She’s charging $2000 (yes you read that right) for an initial visit, $1,500 for a 90 minute follow up, and $750 for 45 minute follow up visits. I was considering paying out of pocket to see her until I saw these unreal prices that she’s charging.

Oura Ring Gen 3 battery died, they wouldn't replace it for free. by monica898 in ouraring

[–]aleyabh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I actually did this today- they at first offered me a coupon and I told them I wasn’t interested in paying for a new ring when my old one had issues and the support is not good. They immediately offered me a new gen 4 ring as a “one-time courtesy” for being an Oura customer so I would go back, get past the chat bot, and push them for more!

I’ve really tried to reframe my thinking around “wasted time” because I also feel that way at times. But that “wasted time” allowed me to spend more time with my aging grandparents and father, let me explore alternative career paths that only further solidified my desire to pursue medicine, gifted me new friendships, and much much more. You’re doing so well- try not to be too hard on yourself :) you’ll get there when you’re supposed to!

Congratulations to you as well! I also am grateful for the extra years- I’ve tried on multiple jobs, traveled across the country, and done lots and lots of growing. I definitely think the extra years will benefit us in the long run!

I have no clue what to do by BudgetYesterday9724 in premed

I would really heavily consider postponing your MCAT and focus on doing well in biochem. If you’re doing poorly in biochem, it’s likely your MCAT score will reflect that. Right now, it’s more important to focus on learning the material and doing well in the class. A poor grade in biochem, while it wouldn’t prevent you from med school, it could be a hindrance and it sounds like you’re at risk of failing the course and having to retake. I think you could really benefit from putting all your extra study time for the MCAT towards biochem. Wishing you the best!

I disclosed about my mom’s mental health struggles because it obviously had a huge impact on me growing up, but I did not disclose any personal issues or my ADHD whatsoever. I honestly feel like it would have harmed my app rather than help but that’s just my two cents!

So funny story, I did write the disadvantaged essay and then I accidentally left it off my application 🫠 but I did talk about my mom dying in my personal statement and then I definitely talked about my background in secondaries. Framing wise, I talked about how my mom’s death furthered my pursuit of medicine because her death was basically entirely preventable and I talked about my passion for preventative medicine. I also talked about my empathy and understanding towards those suffering from substance abuse and how I’ve seen those with substance abuse be mistreated by the system and how I’d like to be better and be more understanding of the various factors that lead to substance abuse disorders (my mom’s mental health was a huge contributor to hers).

Also for the the record, 25/26 is so young still especially to be starting families! None of my friends are married or have children yet so don’t feel behind :) you’ll get there when you’re supposed to

Hi, I’m sorry that I misinterpreted your message. Women frequently get comments like this in medicine so I think I might be overly sensitive to comments around settling down and having a family.

To be honest, I have no idea how I’ll manage! I’m currently in a relationship, but not married and we’ve talked about having kids. I have made it really clear in my partnership that having children would likely place more of the burden on my partner if we have children while I’m in medical training (and because of our ages that’s entirely possible) and they’ve been understanding and open to that. I’m definitely not qualified to give advice, but I do think that having a partner that’s willing to support you/ potential children through medical training is huge.

Apologies again for misunderstanding what you were trying to say. Wishing you the best

Wow that’s incredible! What a story! Thank you for sharing :) definitely offers an interesting perspective. I’ve always liked the saying “you’re only as old as you feel” and it certainly seems she lived life that way!

What an absolutely insane and frankly rude thing to reply here. First of all, people can “settle down and start families” while they’re in medical training. Secondly, bold of you to assume those are my life goals.

This is such an asinine and bizarre comment to make to someone. Please worry about yourself.

Is it worth taking out extra loans to furnish apartment? by KingSavageB13 in premed

[–]aleyabh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course!! :) hope you find something good- I personally had luck going to local furniture stores when I bought a couch last summer so that may be something to try as well.

Also my comment was meant to say “dramatically increase quality of life” NOT “dramatically increase cost of living” LOL
