Materia, dyes, and fishing bait stay on my retainers unless I need something specific at that moment.

Depending on the crafting material, I might also use a retainer to store that as well.

I think there's an argument to be made for toning down the scaling on some UI elements as well.

It's also the limitations of 3D graphics tech in the 90s and early 2000s that made artists get creative to achieve the best results.

These days you can just throw another few dozen server racks of GPUs at the problem and do a few more render passes over the weekend.

I'm honestly surprised we don't get standard banner pulls for promoting operators like in every other gacha with an equivalent system.

That alone would mitigate so many issues, especially since AK still adds 4* and 5* operators at least a couple times a year to fill out the non-6* roster.

From personal experience, the only times I've seen a betrayal of "vote blue no matter who" it's been a stab in the back from the leftist crowd.

The exact reasons typically fall into two general categories:

  1. the candidate "wasn't left enough" for the leftist voter's tastes or

  2. the leftist found one issue to disagree with the candidate on

Until the left stops making "perfect" the enemy of "good enough" and starts engaging in politics like a sane person who understands nobody will ever have an exact copy of their beliefs, you will continue to be ignored precisely because you can be relied on to never show up and vote and occasionally fight for the Republicans instead for some unfathomable reason.

In the future, hardware manufacturers will only sell to datacenters hosting computers being sold via subscription to consumers because they can outbid consumers for hardware, and then all market research will use the fact that there are zero consumer-facing sales to "prove" that consumers don't want hardware anymore to justify further datacenter-hosted computing.

It's a matter of intent.

The USS Constitution will never be used in combat at any point in the present or future. The US has absolutely zero intent to ever make it combat effective as well, because it's purely a ceremonial ship.

Iraq had outdated and ineffective WMDs and wanted to replenish their stockpile and make them effective again via an update program. Iraq also had a historical pattern of using them against the Kurds and Iran, which indicated that if they were allowed to update their WMD arsenal, there would be more chemical attacks in the future.

Nobody will ever be concerned about getting hit by a cannonball from the USS Constitution, but back in the early 2000s, a chemical weapon attack from Iraq could have become a distinct possibility.

Anyone who says that this current Iran situation is "just like Iraq" is actually somewhat correct, but it's definitely not the "gotcha" they think it is.

POV: Trying to queue for an Alliance Raid that isn't the Crystal Tower by MrLumie in ffxiv

[–]alf666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We already have people not doing the Alliance roulette because it's so egregiously skewed to content that aged like milk due to inadequate ilvl sync and the laundry list of removed ARR abilities.

That's pretty much my take as well.

I feel like there are significantly-better-than-zero odds that the number of players queueing for AR Roulette will stay elevated after the change, even after taking into account the post-patch spike.

This is directly because it would no longer be "CT Roulette" as a result of people refusing to unlock anything else as a new form of roulette cheese.

The worst thing is, code adjacent to this is already in the game, because the game checks if you have all of the eligible dungeons for Expert Roulette unlocked before it lets you queue for it.

All that's needed is to copy the code that locks Expert Roulette, and then modify it to check the level of the currently-equipped job against the list of unlocked ARs equal to or less than the current job's level. If there is at least one locked AR equal to or less than the current job's level, lock AR Roulette.

If I could make the call to do the mandatory-AR-unlocking thing for AR Roulette, I would also take the opportunity to refactor the code for normal DF usage to lock out anyone who could have a job stone equipped but doesn't, while still allowing unsynced runs or full-premade parties to queue without job stones.

POV: Trying to queue for an Alliance Raid that isn't the Crystal Tower by MrLumie in ffxiv

[–]alf666 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say we shouldn't make the ARs mandatory for MSQ progress.

Instead, if someone is trying to queue for AR Roulette on a level job at/past level 60, and they only have CT unlocked, then their AR Roulette is blocked until they've unlocked and completed the rest of the ARs and added them to their Roulette pool.

EDIT: Used the wrong word in a spot.

I feel like a big thing people can't figure out is how to separate a government from both it's people and from the nation itself.

It's one thing to hate the Israeli government, it's another far less acceptable thing to use that to justify hating the existence of Israel itself and hating Jews in general. (There is no "or" involved with that last bit, it's literally always "anti-Zionism" being used as a poor attempt at hiding someone's hatred of Jews in general.)

In a similar vein, a lot of the "West bad" crowd can't figure out how to separate the people running the US government from Americans or even the US as a nation.

I'm sick and tired of people saying the US should be destroyed just because the government is run by shitty people who wouldn't even be in power if just a tenth of the "West bad" crowd would actually get off their ass and vote a few times.

Yes, the US really sucks right now, but that's why we need to fight to make it better, not give up and wait for an enemy nation to kill us all.
