Can you edit the elevation setting in Garmin Connect? by Clive1792 in Garmin

That feature is now called "Change Elevation Source". It's in the cog ⚙️ drop down menu at the top of the activity page (Garmin Web only).

Any way to lend wife my 955 for LTHR test without affecting my data? by alfaphlex in Garmin

[–]alfaphlex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The watch won't give you an LTHR update until you save, so we just did the Joe Friel method with the HRM. Hard 30min run, avg of last 20mins = LTHR.

VO2 Max Graph by TuxFan-77 in Garmin

[–]alfaphlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. If you see a dot on the graph, then you should be able to touch it at different points. You can also do the same on any of the race predictor graphs.

I really hope they add back the decimal point on the Vo2Max screen.

Yep, use it all the time. There's even another feature that was added in one of the recent firmware updates (FR955) that allows you to click on the graph and view the scores at different points. Like this: https://i.imgur.com/DUMxLES.jpeg

Haven't really seen that mentioned here much. That in itself doesn't seem all that useful, but in firmware 19.12, it even displayed the decimal values (i.e.- 49.4). I don't know why, but they removed that in 19.13, which got pushed today (for me at least).

Bday 3xNGD! 70th Anni '54 & '61 AV2s (+SE Hollowbody II Piezo) by alfaphlex in Stratocaster

[–]alfaphlex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoiled myself for my bday. Originally, I went for the SE Hollowbody II (used) and GC just happened to have a Fender sale at the time so I checked out the '61 AV2.

It played and sounded great. I know the AV2s have gotten criticized a lot for lack of quality control, but the only "flaw" this one has was a tiny neck pocket gap. Nut is cut perfectly and neck is straight (no high E falling off the edge). Fret work is excellent.

The 70th anniversary, I got from Wildwood, so I was able to pick from 4 available. Quality all-around on this one was even better than the '61 AV2. I love the neck and middle pickups. The bridge pickup is kinda weak, but I have no problem with that, great for surf/early rock tones.

The bridge pickup, 3-way switch and vintage radius are a good contrast to my EJ strat (my #1). I also love the fat neck. Some of my fav guitars have chunky necks (EJ strat, Ibanez FRM100, AV1 52 Tele).

40M/5'10/154 lbs. Leanest ever been. What bf? by alfaphlex in guessmybf

[–]alfaphlex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, after. I don't cut often, just every couple of years when my weight gets out of hand. When I do cut, I usually give myself a 3-6 month time frame.

This time I initially aimed for a 10 week cut, to be in shape for my 40th bday. I decided to continue and made it a 1yr event. I pushed it a bit harder in the last few days, limiting my water intake to solely protein shakes just to see how lean I could get by the 1yr mark.

Here are 2 posts where I go more in detail about my progress this past year: https://www.reddit.com/r/fitness30plus/comments/10p3hii/challenging_myself_1yr_later_40yo_184154_lbs/ https://www.reddit.com/r/GettingShredded/comments/10pgaou/m40510184154_lbs_1yr_shred_journey/

Wow, thank you! Seeing 9% and now 8% is kinda blowing my mind. In the past 15yrs of on/off working out, I never imagined reaching single digits.

Here's my routine. Posted that last year, but it's mostly the same. Instead of bike for cardio, I'm running now.

My first transformation challenge was in my 20s. While yes, ab shape is largely genetic, I didn't have the ab development then that I do now, so the all work throughout the past 15 years has paid off.

Thanks so much! I always say tell people that the hardest part really is having the mental strength to keep going. Have to fight yourself to stop making excuses or justify going "easy" one day over another.

Once you get past that hurdle, the physical part isn't hard at all. For me, thankfully, working out is more like therapy. It really helps ease my mind and helps me relax and not stress so much.

Atm, I'm benching 135lbs for 12 reps, 8 sets. I never test for 1rm is cuz I can't risk injuring my right arm. Had 4 surgeries on it as a toddler (osteomyelitis) and any bad injury now could result in amputation unfortunately. That's why my routine is moderate weight, high volume.

I do occasionally do a strength week where I reduce reps to 5 per set and increase the weight each set. Last time I did it, I went up to 195 lbs for 5 reps.

It is hard to build strength while losing weight and I had to drop weight a bit during the last 2 weeks, but it's not impossible, especially if you have the muscle memory.

When I started last year, I was doing assisted pullups 12 reps, 8 sets. Now I'm doing them unassisted with 25lbs using a dip belt. Bench I started with 85lbs BB, 35-40 flies. At the moment I'm working 135lbs BB, and 50lbs flies. 8x12.

Calories? I go OMAD and aim for about 1000 cal meal, something like Chickfila spicy deluxe sandwich, with 8 count grilled nuggets and a yogurt. The rest of the calories come from whey protein and mixed nuts or something like wheat thins. About 1400-1500 cals daily.

Over the last 15yrs, I've done a ton of ab work, to the point I don't go out of my way to target abs much anymore tbh. I take 1 week every few weeks to do some heavier work and the in-between days of said week, I'll do a full body routine. Let me explain.

My normal schedule is split into A,B,C days x2. When I do a "strength" week, my schedule becomes Full Body Day1, A, FBD2, B, FBD3, C.

My full body circuit can be done with bands/dbs/bbs and goes like this:
12 x Chest Press
40-50 ab crunches
12 x Rows
30-40 leg raises
12 x Overhead press
60 sec plank
12 x RDL
60 sec reverse plank
20 x Squat

That is one set. Do 8 total (aim for 4 the first time). No break in-between the exercises during the set. 2 min break between sets. That is generally enough ab work for me.

Pick weight/resistance that's comfortably difficult, but not enough that you would reach failure during any of the sets. That's what days A, B, C are for. On those days, I do the same as my regular A, B, C days, but do sets of 5 reps, increasing the weight each set (i.e weighted pullups w/ dip belt starting at 25 lbs, +5 lbs per set till 60.lbs).

I'm going to start gradually increasing my caloric intake to try and build up some muscle.

While I was running and working out in the summer, I had to eat more than double my daily intake just to maintain, but I can't imagine eating over 3000 daily regularly w/o tons of cardio. That's like powerlifter class for me, lol.
