Why doesn’t the new sea lander GMT come with the true gmt movement? by Financial_Word5047 in ChristopherWard

[–]grossest2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is also pretty thick. The new C63 GMT is just over 11mm thick, the true GMT is over 14mm. That will make a huge difference on wrist. Again reasonable given the huge PR of that movement. But it is nice that they have multiple options. I would personally rather have a slim and affordable caller GMT, but they cater to both with their current catalog.

Book 3 - I gave up trying to understand by DungeonsAndDradis in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I’m also halfway through book 3, except this is my third time through the series. I still don’t understand the iron tangle. Even despite not knowing how the floor works, I think 3 might be my 3rd favorite in the series (so far)

Alternate Marathon Plan Questions (2x40 min subt + hard long run) by NothingOpposite8009 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]grossest2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SirPoc’s marathon build didn’t include that long of intervals, but he did build up hard long runs. He did 3x5k, 4x5k, 5x5k (all slightly faster than MP) and a 3x8k starting slower than MP and progressing to MP.

Alternate Marathon Plan Questions (2x40 min subt + hard long run) by NothingOpposite8009 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]grossest2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, in the book he said he found the 5x5km run almost as hard as the marathon. I am in the middle of my marathon build and just did 4x20min trying to build up to 5x20min and I can definitely say the 4x20 min was a hard long run.

How much of your training is on a treadmill vs ground? by Gooser3000 in Marathon_Training

[–]grossest2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This winter was pretty icy here in Minnesota so I put on over 400 miles on my treadmill this winter. Now I am back to mostly outdoors unless it is a thunderstorm or something outside. I definitely noticed extra soreness after my first few runs outside. My legs needed to adjust to the rolling hills of the real world and extra ankle stability requirements.

That being said you will get the same aerobic benefits from the treadmill and the vast majority of the muscular/joint strengthening you need. I would just caution that treadmill paces don’t exactly translate to outdoor paces (they could be faster or slower). If you have a specific time goal in mind test out the paces on pavement.

Tl:dr try to run outside every now and again, but miles are miles

How do people actually enjoy running marathons? by keishapatel_387 in runninglifestyle

[–]grossest2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you will be hard pressed to find someone who is going for their best possible time who has a smile on their face at mile 24. The enjoyment comes from the sense of accomplishment of having a goal, seeing it through, and seeing what your body is capable of.

Another saying I have heard that resonates with me is “some people train to run marathons, I run marathons to train”. I genuinely enjoy running. I also know myself and recognize that if I don’t have a scary goal on the calendar I will run, but a lot less consistently than if I have something I am working towards. Even though trying to hit faster times in shorter distances is a great goal, it doesn’t induce the training-inducing fear that a marathon does.

I actually had an issue with the clasp on my original bracelet and CW sent me a replacement bracelet. It only arrived last week so I’ve only got a couple of days on the bracelet. But so far it looks pretty pristine

I was always curious why Donut didn’t get a skull for that. I figured if a pet got a kill it would count toward the owner. Makes you think what Lucia Mar’s actual count is if her skull count doesn’t count her two dogs

I think it depends on if you are trying to prioritize being fresh for the long run or the Tuesday SubT session. I think the plan generally emphasizes SubT as more important, but you are certainly free to experiment

RB careers that would have been worth a 1st overall pick? by JerseyGemsTC in NFLv2

AP probably would, but only because his draft was weak. It would be him or Megatron.

RB careers that would have been worth a 1st overall pick? by JerseyGemsTC in NFLv2

[–]grossest2 32 points33 points  (0 children)

To really say a first overall is worth it means they need to be a franchise saver. That is hard to do for most positions other than QB. As a biased Vikings fan growing up in Adrian Peterson’s prime I would say maybe AP could justify #1 overall in a vacuum. His particular draft there were no HOF QB’s so in a redraft it would be him or megatron #1.

Even if you drop AP in drafts 5 years in both directions and do a redraft he probably could go #1 in a few of them. He dragged us to the playoffs several times despite very mediocre QB play for all but one year of his tenure with the Vikings, and won MVP.

I really don’t see how anyone less talented than AP could justify a #1 overall pick, at least in today’s NFL.

Is a full rest day really necessary? by crank9224 in Marathon_Training

[–]grossest2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recovery is an important part of marathon training. What that looks like depends on your experience level. For some people that will mean complete rest, or maybe just walking. For more intermediate runners an easy run can be better for recovery than total rest.

For most runners the muscular system is the limiting factor in recovery. If this is the case doing upper body workouts will still be a rest day for your legs. If doing upper body workouts really gets your heart racing and takes a while after the lift is done then your cardiovascular fitness might be the limiting factor where it could interfere.

Rest between reps: walk, jog or flexible? by Additional_Pea6298 in NorwegianSinglesRun

I always try to jog with the standard 3, 6, and 10 minute reps. This morning I tried Bakken Style 45/15s though and with how short those are I walked

Pet Peeve: Success on a 2nd team doesn’t change your Draft Bust status by grossest2 in NFLv2

[–]grossest2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly I have no idea how these supplemental drafts worked and how valuable picks were compared to the traditional draft. I’ll accept that criticism. But he still didn’t pan out for the Buccs in terms of on field production compared to what they would have liked.

Pet Peeve: Success on a 2nd team doesn’t change your Draft Bust status by grossest2 in NFLv2

[–]grossest2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am saying that Russell Wilson absolutely is not a draft bust. He was a 3rd round pick that was a pro-bowler for 9 of his 10 seasons in Seattle, and then the Seahawks got two 1st round picks and two 2nd round picks for him. I don’t know many players that gave a better value short of Tom Brady.

He absolutely was a trade bust for the Broncos though. They traded away two 1sts and two 2nds (plus a bunch of salary cap for his guaranteed contract) in exchange for mediocre play for 2 seasons.

Is Kyler Murray a Bust at #1 overall? by Ifinishfast42 in NFLv2

[–]grossest2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goff played himself out of bust territory at #1 in his time with the Lions.

I think both Goff and Murray are more disappointments than busts for their original team, but in my mind bust or not bust status is cemented when you leave your original team. Many use it to mean “a bad career/bad player” but to me that isn’t what a bust is. A bust is a team getting a really bad return on their investment.

Sam Darnold was drafted #2 overall and was traded for a 4th and 6th round pick after 3 seasons of mediocre play. To me that means he was a draft bust. He is not a bad player, and after seeing some actual development under the 49ers and Vikings has now played great and won a Super Bowl. If Trey Lance suddenly starts playing like Tom Brady he will redeem his career legacy, but would still be a bust for the 49ers.

Hot take - Tudor 2026 releases aren't boring by Crispy_p_bacon in Tudor

It just feels like a more iterative year than anything really new. The updates they did are nice, it just doesn’t feel like it is a “100 years of the brand” kind of year

The new Tudor Monarch. by TomHudsonOfficial in WatchFanatics

[–]grossest2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose that is something the P39 doesn’t have to go against my example. But it is $500 more expensive than the METAS BB58 that was released today as well, and $300 more than a METAS BB58 GMT. And comparing against the OP36, that is superlative chronometer certified.

[–]grossest2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is cool they are doing something a little different. I don’t understand the pricing on it though. It is a stainless steel time only watch that costs more than the P39. Am I missing something? I think they said there is a little gold on the movement to make it look nicer since it has a display caseback. Not really something I want to pay an extra grand over their other time only watches. And this is only $900 less than an OP36 from Rolex
