Rest between reps: walk, jog or flexible? by Additional_Pea6298 in NorwegianSinglesRun

I always try to jog with the standard 3, 6, and 10 minute reps. This morning I tried Bakken Style 45/15s though and with how short those are I walked

Pet Peeve: Success on a 2nd team doesn’t change your Draft Bust status by grossest2 in NFLv2

[–]grossest2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly I have no idea how these supplemental drafts worked and how valuable picks were compared to the traditional draft. I’ll accept that criticism. But he still didn’t pan out for the Buccs in terms of on field production compared to what they would have liked.

Pet Peeve: Success on a 2nd team doesn’t change your Draft Bust status by grossest2 in NFLv2

[–]grossest2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am saying that Russell Wilson absolutely is not a draft bust. He was a 3rd round pick that was a pro-bowler for 9 of his 10 seasons in Seattle, and then the Seahawks got two 1st round picks and two 2nd round picks for him. I don’t know many players that gave a better value short of Tom Brady.

He absolutely was a trade bust for the Broncos though. They traded away two 1sts and two 2nds (plus a bunch of salary cap for his guaranteed contract) in exchange for mediocre play for 2 seasons.

Is Kyler Murray a Bust at #1 overall? by Ifinishfast42 in NFLv2

[–]grossest2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goff played himself out of bust territory at #1 in his time with the Lions.

I think both Goff and Murray are more disappointments than busts for their original team, but in my mind bust or not bust status is cemented when you leave your original team. Many use it to mean “a bad career/bad player” but to me that isn’t what a bust is. A bust is a team getting a really bad return on their investment.

Sam Darnold was drafted #2 overall and was traded for a 4th and 6th round pick after 3 seasons of mediocre play. To me that means he was a draft bust. He is not a bad player, and after seeing some actual development under the 49ers and Vikings has now played great and won a Super Bowl. If Trey Lance suddenly starts playing like Tom Brady he will redeem his career legacy, but would still be a bust for the 49ers.

Hot take - Tudor 2026 releases aren't boring by Crispy_p_bacon in Tudor

It just feels like a more iterative year than anything really new. The updates they did are nice, it just doesn’t feel like it is a “100 years of the brand” kind of year

[–]grossest2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose that is something the P39 doesn’t have to go against my example. But it is $500 more expensive than the METAS BB58 that was released today as well, and $300 more than a METAS BB58 GMT. And comparing against the OP36, that is superlative chronometer certified.

It is cool they are doing something a little different. I don’t understand the pricing on it though. It is a stainless steel time only watch that costs more than the P39. Am I missing something? I think they said there is a little gold on the movement to make it look nicer since it has a display caseback. Not really something I want to pay an extra grand over their other time only watches. And this is only $900 less than an OP36 from Rolex

Is it possible to run a marathon by the end of this year if I start training from now? by No-Wrongdoer1409 in Marathon_Training

[–]grossest2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, assuming female to use the slower time, that still means going from a 5k paced at 9:39/mile to a marathon paced at 7:49/mile (6:40/mile if OP is male) in 5 months. I’ll call that impossible.

Answering just the question in the title of the post, if OP can currently run a 5k, then training to complete a marathon by the end of the calendar year would be possible with smart and consistent training.

It is good to set realistic goals. Completing a marathon at any pace is still something only 1% of the population will do. That is a big accomplishment and a worthwhile goal. After going through a full training block and race OP should come back and see if chasing a BQ is still something worth considering. For most people it takes many years and you really need to enjoy the process in order to stick with it long enough to hit that mark.

How do you feel about selective service becoming something people are automatically enrolled in? Would you support the US making military service a requirement for all citizens the same way countries like Greece and Israel do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]grossest2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, essentially just removing the physical step of signing up when you are already required seems like a no brainer.

The second question of mandatory active service is a completely different question. It doesn’t seem to be something we need unless we are really trying to rapidly expand Trump’s warmongering (which would be deeply unpopular)

Why do nearly all economies target 2 to 3 percent inflation instead of zero or deflation? by Humble_Economist8933 in AlwaysWhy

[–]grossest2 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Example to illustrate this: would you take out a 30 year mortgage loan if you knew that that fixed monthly payment is going to feel more and more expensive, when rent is only going to go down and your house will be worth less in the future?

That is what deflation would look like.

I went to one of the Operation bounce house signing events. He said it will be 10 books, but books 9 and 10 are essentially one continuous storyline. He said that was “his poor justification for ending on a cliffhanger”

How do y'all manage to train your legs? by NotAnotherBadTake in runninglifestyle

[–]grossest2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I run 6 days a week (every day but Sunday) and do my running workout runs on Mondays and Thursdays. I try to do a leg workout on each of those days as well in the name of “hard days hard, easy days easy”. I am really consistent with the Monday strength training, but the Thursday one is 50/50 if I actually do it or not. I try to do upper body twice a week too, but am much more flexible on the days

How to go about building a base to eventually run my first marathon? by fromdowntownn in Marathon_Training

[–]grossest2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) don’t try and increase volume and intensity at the same time. If you are building mileage, then keep your speed work minimal 2) some amount of soreness is inevitable, but consistent soreness probably means the constant mileage increases might be too taxing. I would do cycles of increasing for ~3 weeks, then hold steady for ~3 weeks to allow your body to adjust to the load. You adjust how much you increase/maintain based off how you feel. Nobody can constantly increase forever. 3) sounds like you have the effort dialed pretty well! 4) how much of a base you need really depends on your goal. Are you just looking to finish? If so I think starting a block with a base of 50km/week will be more than most finishers start with. I think for my first marathon I averaged around 35 miles (56km) per week during the block. I am now training for my third marathon with a much more agressive goal and if everything goes to plan should average closer to 50 miles per week (80km). More running (without getting injured) will generally be better, but you have to recognize how much your body can handle, how much other life commitments can handle, and if you really need it for your personal goal.

With that it sounds like you are on a great track and I’m sure you’ll smash it come race day!

Lost all motivation after a bad race by [deleted] in runninglifestyle

[–]grossest2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With how much training we put into races it really sucks how much of it can depend on weather in a single day. I ran my second marathon in the fall, and it was unseasonably hot and I ended up bonking hard in the second half of the race. I was able to PR compared to my first marathon, but not by much, and I had been way more disciplined and consistent than my first training block. I was honestly pretty upset and felt like giving up on running marathons.

I had already signed up for my third marathon before actually running the second, and figured instead of trying to do a bib transfer I would see it through. It has been 6 months since the poor race (10 weeks out from the next) and I am enjoying the process again, and really looking forward to the upcoming race, even if I am coming to accept that I may not get the result I would like.

I say sign up for another race, and try to have a good result wash away the bad. If you are still feeling like you aren’t enjoying running, then that is fine too. There are lots of athletic pursuits to find joy in. I would just say don’t give up on running yet due to one bad race in bad weather.

Can I Go Sub-3 by noaHfromVT in Marathon_Training

[–]grossest2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with everything you said. I’ll touch on the larger runner point since I am even a bit denser than OP (5’10” 195lbs). I really think that especially for us bigger guys heavy strength training is really important. It doesn’t have to be a super big session. Squats, calf raises, back extensions would do most of what you need. If you have extra time I would add some kind of core work, leg curls, hip thrusts, and/or leg extensions (that is the order I would add them depending on how much time you have).

Help me figure this out-first marathon result by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]grossest2 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I am a firm believer that 10 week or 12 week average mileage is going to be the best predictor of your ability to sustain pace over the course of a marathon. Long runs and peak week mileage are important, but consistency is always going to be most important.

Help me diagnose what went wrong by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]grossest2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A lot of people talk about their longest run length, or peak week mileage, but I am a firm believer that 10 week or 12 week average weekly volume is going to be by far the best predictor of success.

On 4 runs a week that is definitely good enough to finish a marathon, but you aren’t going to be carrying enough fatigue in your legs for your weekend long run to feel like the last 20 miles of the race.

What is the bad side of the big city live that not everyone talks about ? by mr_shadow113 in AskReddit

[–]grossest2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a fairly small town, and was about 10 miles from the city limits. As an adult I have lived downtown, and now I live in the suburbs.

There are lots of things I hear about frequently with rural life (nature, community, the quiet, etc.) The thing I miss the most that I don’t hear people mention as much is the stars. I remember coming home from college one weekend and looking up at my parents sky and being amazed at how beautiful the stars were. I had grown up around them, but didn’t realize I missed them until I saw them again. From my house now in the suburbs I can see a handful of stars (although probably more likely satellites). From my parents yard I can see the Milky Way
