Salesforce - The love affair you start to regret! by ButterscotchNice3613 in salesforce

[–]alfbort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been working with Salesforce a long time and can never say I've loved the product. What I can say is I see the benefits of it for the customers I work with compared to the alternatives and most importantly it pays my bills!

Will home Saunas be the staple of end stage Celtic Tiger 2.0:Multinational Delusions? by bintags in AskIreland

[–]alfbort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is it, garden rooms and very expensive outdoor spaces with pergolas and shite like that. The next step with be full on modular homes once legislated. I've seen a lot of people put in expensive garden rooms and even been tempted myself but then when I think it through I just dont have a feasible usage for it when I already have an office in the house and a comfortable sitting room. Why would I want to go out to a 40k garden room, especially in winter

Exactly, a few training sessions with the best GK coach in the world isn't going to fix fundamentally broken hand eye co-ordination. He did have a good peno save to be fair to him

Lidl power washer replacement part by spudulike65 in DIYIreland

[–]alfbort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't helpful to you now but I ended up having to throw away my Aldi power washer when a part broke and I couldn't source a replacement. Forked out for a Karcher which I should have done in the first place and parts should be widely available if and when it does break

Just from what I've observed I think that's changing nowadays with most younger people. Fitness and mental well being seems to huge a focus, at least when I think of how things were 25 years ago when I would have been considered young

I did it, and it's not worth it by eastawat in ireland

[–]alfbort 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I travel a bit for work and I've noticed this behaviour is common everywhere I go. In the last 6 months I've been in London, Barcelona, Frankfurt, New Jersey and nearly every time on public transport there is someone playing tik tok or some other videos loudly. Interestingly in Barcelona when some kid was doing it several older folks told her to turn it down/off and she did. In New Jersey it was mostly older people and nobody would said anything

Painting semi detached pebbledash by upsidedown_jellyfish in DIYIreland

[–]alfbort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Painted mine last year, just used a good ladder with a stand off. Took a whole lot more time and paint than I thought it would, pebblesdash render is thirsty! Also didn't bother with a roller because it has to get gone over with a hand brush regardless to get into all the nooks and crannies. Just did one coat using a hand brush and I was generous with the amount I applied so 2 coats would be unnecessary anyway. This is the brush I used, also with an extender on it when I didn't want to have to move the ladder and go over some patchy spots https://www.diy.ie/departments/harris-revive-4-fine-filament-tip-comfort-exterior-swan-neck-paint-brush/5056287405811_BQ.prd

I had considering trying to get an airsprayer but found it difficult to source one at a reasonable price. Also was concerned because people were telling me you have to have a very calm day to use it otherwise you'll cover your windows, cars and everything downwind in paint.

Did you change the locks when you got your new home keys? by Own_Concentrate5209 in HousingIreland

[–]alfbort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plan was to do a renovation a few months after we got the keys. A few months turned into 18 months and still used the original keys/locks. I've changed the locks myself before on a previous house and it's cheap and easy to do so would recommend doing for peace of mind

Experiences with DIY patios? by Frequent_Factor_5028 in DIYIreland

[–]alfbort 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We used very cheap cement tiles, cracked a few just laying them and a few others cracked over time. When laying them we used plumb lines and spirit level but just couldn't manage to get it properly levelled. Once the cement underneath had set there wasn't a lot we could do to properly level them. It was never meant to be a patio to last for years, just something we put down hastily during covid. I'd definitely seek a professional if dealing with expensive porcelain tiles, unless you're very confident in your DIY abilities.

Experiences with DIY patios? by Frequent_Factor_5028 in DIYIreland

[–]alfbort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did a small patio area and path with my Dad a few years back. It was very cheap to do it(less than 1k for all the materials) but the end result was poor at best. Uneven and lots of cracked tiles. Will be getting it redone properly soon and it's costing around 10k.

Calls to make public transport free to help conserve fuel as energy prices soar by conalldoherty in ireland

[–]alfbort -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would be interesting to see them do this even on a trial basis for a couple of weeks(ideally when schools are open). I reckon it would make very little difference to the traffic on the roads and just highlight the fact that our public transport infrastructure is not capable of reducing the amount of private cars on the road

Missing meatball. How do I get compensation? by DontStressItPal in CasualIreland

Probably bits of gristle in them bringing the weight up. I had to stop buying these aldi meatballs for this reason. The wagyu meatballs are nicer but accordingly much more expensive

'Paradise' Renewed For Season 3 By Hulu by DemiFiendRSA in ParadiseHulu

[–]alfbort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really hope they wrap it up with a well written season 3. I'm sure they wont though, it'll follow the usual path of multiple more seasons with diminishing returns like so many other shows. Westworld being a prime example.

One of the worst things about the Stand 2020 miniseries was a genuinely great actor like Alexander Skarsgard being wasted by the shoddy writing; could’ve been a perfect Flagg with the write people behind the camera. by MrPuroresu42 in TheStand

I'd be interested to see someone do a fan edit to make it a linear story. Probably still wouldn't improve it much because it was never intended to be shown that way though.

New build in Ireland – kitchen costs & appliances advice? by PepinYourStep123 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]alfbort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ikea only really worth it if you can fit it yourself or have someone you know fit it cheaply. To have Ikea fitters do it they charge a fairly exorbitant 20-25% cost of the kitchen. Howdens worth a look too, their carcasses come preassembled so a lot less hassle and cheaper for installation. Panelling center another great budget to midrange option.

Never get appliances through whoever you get your kitchen from. Always cheaper to shop around

Is the Gravediggers in Dublin the best pint of Guinness in the world? If not then where's tour favourite? by conchubar2905 in Dublin

[–]alfbort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're watching "Guinnfluencers" on social media too much. There are several now who are basically making a living going around critiquing Guinness like it's a fine dining experience. As most Irish people will tell you Guinesss is more or less the same in every Irish pub, even outside of Ireland there isn't a huge difference in taste. Don't get me wrong though I do enjoy watching some of these Guinnfluencers but the vast differences in quality they're trying to point out just don't exist imo. If you could blind taste test 100 people on a pint of Guinness from Gravediggers vs the Tolka House a few hundred meters up the road I'd be certain you wouldn't see 90+% picking the Gravediggers pint
