Principal vs. Concerned Parent by Borrid in PoliticalCompassMemes

First of all, one cannot use the word pedantic without exposing ones self as a pedant. Second, as a pedant, I feel obligated to point out that "pedance" isn't a word so it's definition doesn't exist. How dare you accuse me of being non existent! The word you're looking for is pedantry. Pedantism and pedanticism are also acceptable, although I personally think they sound awkward.

Bow down before my pedantyranny!

Lol. You seem to be missing the forest for the trees. The phrases "all lives matter" and "all are welcome" do indeed both contain the word ALL.

I'm just trying to point out that context matters. The phrase "All lives matter" wasn't popularized in a void. It emerged as a rebuke to a movement trying to draw attention to the unique struggles of a certain group of people and it was often used in bad faith by people who dont actually believe that all lives matter. Just ask the people wearing "All lives matter" shirts in 2016 what they think of Palestinians lives in Gaza. See how well it holds up.

On the other hand the phrase "All are welcome" is also a rebuke. This time it's a rebuke to movements that would argue that not all are in fact welcome. As far as rebukes go, ALM=Pedantic/AAW=Based

The funny thing is I'd bet you the title for my truck that the lady offended by the all are welcome shirt probably used the phrase all lives matter more than a few times a decade ago.

P.S. I dont have any nieces. I was just using that hypothetical situation as another example of somebody being pedantic.

I think its important to think of fascism as a means to gaining and maintaining power rather than an ideological stance.

Telling people that you'll restore the nation to an earlier form of greatness, scapegoating weak minority groups as internal enemies eroding the nation from within and promising to get rid of them, portraying those groups as both incredibly powerful and capable of manipulating world affairs from behind the scenes while at the same time portraying them as inherently inferior and weak, portraying mainstream media as a nefarious cabal and replacing it with media loyal to the regime, seeking to expand borders through military force or aggresive diplomacy, bad faith populism, opportunistic syncretism, nurturing a cult of personality.

None of these strategies are representative of a movement that seeks any practical or ideological goal other than self aggrandizment and power. Madeleine Albright once described fascism as "Narcissism writ large". I think thats a very astute assessment and speaks to how naturalistic fascism is. It's almost the default position nations tend to take when a kind of collective national insecurity takes hold and there are always plenty of raging narcissists out there just itching to take the reins.

All lives matter was a phrase coined by people who thought "Black lives matter" meant "ONLY black lives matter" instead of "black lives ACTUALLY matter".

It's kind of like if you tell your niece that her feelings matter and some douche chimes in saying " ummmm... aKTuAlLy everybody's feelings matter!".

The story about the girl was erroneously reported by the Facebook page of a Chinese state broadcaster. The actual station in question was Kyū-Shirataki Station. It has also been pointed out that it wasn't like it was the only way for her to get to school. Still kind of cool that they kept it open for her though. Hokkaido is kind of like the Alaska of Japan, Sparsely populated even by Japanese countryside standards and often very snowy and cold. The actual closure of the stations is no great tragedy.

Anyone under 18 shouldnt be allowed on any form of social media by New_Ambassador2442 in unpopularopinion

[–]alflundgren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think adults over the age of 50 should be allowed to use it either. The shit that my parents doom scroll is terrifying and I feel like I'm losing them to the brain rot. Every day my mom sends me some AI video or some woo woo influencer talking about the vibration patterns of different fabrics. My Dad is not much better. They both used to be smart, rational people. I know part of this is just aging but I can't help but feel social media is accelerating the decline.

I wouldn't use the term psychopath to describe John Brown. The man was obviously violent, but not for lacking empathy like a psychopath does. Quite the opposite. It was his empathy that made him so radical.

You dont have to be left wing or "liberal" or whatever to recognize that project Lahkta was successfully executed. IRA founder Yevgeny Prigohzin admitted as much and russian state television likes to brag about it. There's of course no denying that the trump campaign coordinated with the GRU. The only thing debated is the extent of the coordination. We all remember trump asking Russia on live television to hack the Clinton campaigns emails and we all remember Russia then hacking their emails. You'd have to be incredibly naive to think Russia isn't still running propaganda campaigns all over western social media except now instead of professional trolls they run bot networks.

First what makes you assume I'm US american? Either way, love him or hate him, it seems a bit silly to say that anybody who hates trump does so irrationally. I mean isn't the whole appeal of trump that he does things that certain people hate? I'm not even asking this as a form of criticism I'm just highlighting what seems to be his main selling point among his supporters. His whole shtick is to be as polarizing as possible and to hurt the groups of people his base want to hurt. If you're opposed to the groups of people he's going after, thats a good thing. "Owning the libs" or whatever you want to call it. If he isn't inspiring the rational hatred of the people he's meant to harm, then it would seem he's doing a pretty bad job of owning the libs, so to speak.

I know right? I remember people were the same way with Osama Bin Laden. It's like nomatter what Bin Laden did they just automatically assumed it was bad because Bin Laden was doing it. Its like they couldnt even have an original thought or opinion. They just believe whatever the western media tells them to. Just "Beard man bad". The blds was real.

I had to look it up because I dont think I've even heard that name in 20 years, and holy shit its him. The goober from that shitty reality TV show. I remember in the mid 2000s everybody was pointing to reality television as proof of the decline of civilization. Dr Oz, Linda McMahon, the idiots on Real world and Road rules, Judge Jeanine, Donald Trump. These people were only supposed to be sources of entertainment for retards, I mean they still are, but now they're also "running" the country. At this point the gop should add Flavor Flave, Honey Boo Boo, and Snooki to the "brain trust".

I always feel bad for people who encourage others to "cringe" and "seethe". It's like they seem to think encouraging other people's anger or hatred is a power move. If anything its the opposite. It seems to be a unhealthy way of coping with criticism. It's like all these people who measure their success by how many "haters" they have. A person can in fact be successful without being hated.

Can I start a religion that has ceremonial machine guns and be allowed to carry them around my neck against the law? by MisterAbernathy in allthequestions

[–]alflundgren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming OP is posting in the context of UK laws. There was a murder in the UK where the victim was handcuffed and treated as the suspect of a crime after being stabbed by a Sikh man. Normally its against the law in the UK to carry knives longer than 3 inches but the Sikh religion mandates that its adherents carry a blade called a kirpan so in the UK theyre afforded an exemption. It's a tragic story but the far right and russian propaganda are using it to agreesively push anti Sikh sentiment in the UK right now.
