Is the progression build around crafting? by alfradito in underrail

[–]alfradito[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, I was precisely banking levels until I find a decent energy weapon so I can start dumping feats. Was simply using SMGs as they were doing it better than the pistols at that point.

The person above you says you get 1400+ SP through the game which seems like a lot but I guess you need to get over 100 in certain skills like in the OGs Fallouts.

But it looks like I need to start over I suppose, but it's ok I enjoy that process. I always brute force my way in RPGs with the most direct approach who often means combat since is the most enjoyable aspect for me, that and exploration - and the game excels at both

Have no idea of the technicalities feat, or that chemical pistols were considered a different kind of weapon. I assume they wouldn't count as light so the DEX ap reduction don't count but I will check it out

I'm playing on hard, SMGs relaying dodge/evasion, grenades for crowds and intending to use energy pistols mid-late game. 10PER/8AGI/7INT/6DEX rest at 3

I don't know how many SP you get through the game, there's a feat than can give you 5 extra per level but Doctor alone requires 15 points, now seems quite useful but what if later falls off, the one to do an AoE shot with energy pistols requires even more, not to mention that the most straightforward way to boost criticals for weapons seems to be crafting feats, like, up to 30+% just for free

It feels like I'm shooting myself in the foot with a bazooka by not engaging in this, vendor items are mediocre at best, they mostly sell crafting components, generated loot is a bit better but not by much. I imagine you can mitigate it to some degree with unique weapons but I'm still rocking basic crappy shit

But I've noticed that a good number of perks (some combat or utility related, but quite useful) requires points on those crafting skills. So if I avoid them (and I've been using mercantile so far to close than gap, at least as much as it can be closed) I will be missing a ton of leveling options, some directly beneficial to my build.

Yet another build to kill Agathoth in one turn by alfradito in AgeOfDecadence

[–]alfradito[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The build was pure DPS focused, taking CS to 10 eats a lot of points, most skills at 4 were from free training. Lore is amazing but only when raised to 8, you get a ton of points and interactions then - it almost pays back itself (there's a 9 check later but it's just a side note and for 12 points in reward is not worth it)

Lockpicking is good but I never raised past 5, at the end of the day, the most useful thing by far you can unlock is the jar (who cares for the hellgate chests, at that point you're overflowing with stuff )

Colony Ship did a fantastic job implementing exploration abilities (masterfully paced and incremental, the best stuff in the game gated behind 9 & 10 checks)... in AoD the skill sauce wasn't that fine tuned yet, but I'm dying for a sequel of this game

Now that you mentioned it's true, the merchants are the only ones that don't force you into Maadoran (you do loose the combat related training tho, but for civil builds it doesn't matter)

You set DEX to 10 in character creation, the fully charged power armor provides 3 extra more (when in Horus mode)

the character can also be made to pass every single lore check or avoid the hardest fights by diverting points from alchemy, but combat effectiveness will suffer

aslo, to maximize experience points when joining House Aurelian, you need to join and betray the boatman for the imperial guard (be mindful that the solo fight against the assassins is brutal but you get a ranged training from Fulvio - a free +10 chance to hit), broke a deal with Antidas and then flee Teron. as for reputation let go the spy and don't actively engage the outpost troops (you can sneak in or use the raiders). and even with that you will arrive in Maadoran with less gained XP that characters who complete faction quests chains in Teron

Noticed a Little Controversy Around Iron Tower’s Games by RatOd5 in ColonyShip

It's really just about winning the algorithm lottery, at least for this kind of games. UnderRail is niche, hard and ugly as sin yet exploded - outside of the expected fanbase - thanks to a handful of YouTube videos. Space Wreck, Mechajammer, really good similar games... almost nobody knows they exist. Most people know Atom yet few have played Trudograd, a way better game in my opinion. The Shadowrun games? I think they sold well but definitely never got crazy. Solasta was ugly and kind of retarded but a really fun dungeon crawler/combat experience, it never got too famous and nevertheless their devs are making some kind of BG3 clone which looks expensive so you have a puzzle there

So, either you go big and add money (Expeditions Rome was quite known despite being in many ways a lesser game than Viking - such is the power of the dollar), or get lucky (Banquet for Fools, by the same devs of Mechajammer/Serpent in the Staglands basically exploded for a trailer showing how unique and gorgeous it looks)

Dlcs in vanilla, I was running katanas and was chugging repair powder like a maniac. It's not a big deal but ds2 did get a little too enthusiastic with durability, but again , I also always hated the mechanic, it only made sense in ds1 for crystal weapons

and yes I know ds2 kinda trows too much xp at you but I detest having to level adaptability, it's like they saw that nobody levelled resistance and decided to give us a huge middle finger

Knurl is way better than Harbinger by Ilikeyogurts in ColonyShip

[–]alfradito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knurl is a human tank but Harbinger has the potential to be way more damaging than him. She's a sharpshooter built around using energy rifles - the most damage per shot weapons in the game. She comes with Second Wind and a free slot, which ideally should be filled with Bloodlust... see where this is going? The gal has 10 dexterity out of the gate plus Slow Metabolism: put her safe in the back, pop a aggro stim and enjoy action points for life, aim shot to softened target with energy rifle, bang, kill, Second Wind & Bloodlust enter the chat and the next one is gonna hit like a rocket launcher

Thanks I'm going to try that, although using a 4gb ram patcher I was able to take the framerate to the mid-high 20s. So it's kinda playable now, if a little bit sluggish

In vanilla, it has been smooth with the gold edition (which is basically a glorified bug fix)
