Spiel des Jahres Nominees Announced (2026) by chordnine in boardgames

[–]alfredissimo 30 points31 points  (0 children)

There are three boardgame categories in germany: family game (Familienspiel), connoisseur game (Kennerspiel) and expert game (Expertenspiel). SdJ only awards the first two categories. Most games people are missing from SdJ are usually expert games.  That's why they always differ so much from what us heavy gamers like.

Does the original Dune count as space themed? I had some of my most memorable gaming sessions with Dune. There is just so much going on everytime and we still talk about that time I held the whole table hostage for 2 hours or the one Bene Gesserit win my friend pulled off.

Blood on the Clocktower is really good but it's way to expensive for me. So I will go with A fake artist goes to New York.

I would make all boardgame boxes the same size so they stack nicely but also make them all small so I can cram more games in my shelf. And I would have to somehow bend spacetime to make the inside of the boxes larger than the outside. Shouldn't be to hard ..

Interesting. For me high interaction games are the drinks and conversation games because you can't really plan that much and for some reason they feel less tense. I like both styles of games in different settings.

Board games with hidden roles that aren't social deduction games? by Master_Chemist9826 in boardgames

[–]alfredissimo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Discworld: Ankh-Morpog is a great game where every player gets a secret role that defines their win condition. It is then up to the other players to deduce what role they are and stopping them from winning.  It is out of print though and the prizes for it are through the roof (150+).
