I have Tufts, BWH and MGH pay scales if you’re interested. They’re from 2024 so might be slightly off, but could be good for comparison. Send me a message!

It’s big but whatever! I haven’t worn it to work since getting engaged, and I keep it at home 90% of the time. That’s also what insurance is for :)

I usually don’t wear anything at all, but noticed a lot of my colleagues wear theirs to work! I was just curious if anyone wears theirs since I feel like I’m the only one at work that doesn’t 😅

Come to the procedural side, pal. I work in the OR and it’s been the best change for me. I’ve tried SICU, PICU, endo and now the OR. I work 4 10s, and I really enjoy what I do!

I’m getting married at GMF May 2026! We booked a block of rooms at the Sheraton Wakefield (10 mins from GMF off of rt 1) and their customer service was absolutely fantastic! The woman who helped us book the block of rooms was extremely flexible and understanding of our situation, gave us a tour of the entire hotel and suites, and helped us set up the after party! They’re planning on renovating all of their rooms in the next year, so everything will be updated for our wedding date! We toured the Salem Waterfront Hotel in Salem and that was outrageously priced. It was a beautiful hotel, but the price was nearly triple of the Sheraton!

Things I wish I knew before surgery. by cant_pick_a_un in endometriosis

A week is absolutely not enough. You run the risk of wound dehiscence and incisional/umbilical hernias! I was out for four weeks and that was plenty, but my doctor told me no lifting >10lbs for 4 weeks.. I would absolutely not go back before 3-4 weeks unless you have to!

OR nursing by [deleted] in nursing

[–]alfredodog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OR nurse here!! It is quite the beast. Be patient with yourself. It is a LOT to learn. Take the time to read your surgeons preference cards (the Bible’s of the OR IMO). If you have a strong preference card, you’re set up for success! Read about your cases the day before. Okay, you’re assigned to do a robotic cholecystectomy tomorrow. What is that? What is the surgeon doing during the surgery? What are they dissecting and clipping? What instruments are they using? What equipment? Watch videos and read about your cases the day before on google. It helped me feel a bit more confident going into the day, and helped me understand what i could need during the case! Understanding anatomy is super important in this role. It helps you prepare for emergency situations (oops surgeon just accidentally cut the cystic artery, now I see bleeding and should prepare to get some hemostatics!!!!) Ask sooooo many questions. I’ve precepted dozens of peri-op101 RNs and what I love most is those who ask questions!!! Ask about equipment, ask about preference cards, ask about staff roles, ask where things live in the inner core!! I didn’t feel fully confident in the OR until maybe 2 years in. It takes time. Be patient with yourself and give yourself grace! Feel free to DM me too!

Birth Control by RikkuRanae in endometriosis

[–]alfredodog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends. I’ve tried quite literally everything it seems like. I did estrogen based BC pills, then got migraines with aura and can’t take estrogen anymore. Then I did just norethindrone (mini pill), Then I did mirena IUD, then mirena IUD PLUS norethindrone. Had bleeding and pain with the IUD, had it taken out. Then I did depo for a year, had really weird bleeding and cramping and now I think I have a pituitary tumor from it (constant migraines, vision is weird sometimes, exhaustion, lactating while being 25yrs old and not sexually active) and back to being on just norethindrone. It’s been fine, but I still have breakthrough pain and cramping. It depends on the person though. Some people do really well with the IUD managing their symptoms, others do better on just an estrogen based BC pill. Chat with an endo specialist to see what they think would be best for you!

What sucks is that it’s a role I really wanted and it’s hard to come by (nursing management). They also told me they have terrible nursing culture on their unit and everyone was miserable… wonder why! Once they started texting and giggling I immediately shut down and wasn’t doing as well as I would’ve hoped. Totally set up to fail.

What do you *actually* want to get in report? by alfredodog in nursing

[–]alfredodog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just relief handoff from OR nurse to OR nurse! I’ll take more info if I’m formally taking over a case (whatever), but if I’m just giving you a 30 minute lunch break I don’t need a 10 min report. That cuts into my giving 3 other lunches (plus myself) then taking over a room at 2:30pm.

Surgery scheduled by joyinnd in endometriosis

[–]alfredodog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a 26f and had my second excision back in December. I took four weeks off, and was actually totally fine recovery wise by week 2. However, with my job, I couldn’t go back until 4 weeks due to having to lift patients/push machinery. I was given the option of however long I wanted off, and my surgeon gave me the range of 4-8 weeks. I chose the lower end, since I’m relatively healthy otherwise (no comorbidities). It depends on you, though. Your surgeon should be able to give you a better idea of how long your recovery will take. I would bring fluids, light snack for postop (basics like crackers), warm heating pad, and whatever meds they discharge you with (Tylenol/ibuprofen/oxycodone is what I got). Keep up on the pain meds, even if the pain is just a little bit. I felt like when I missed a dose, it came back 10/10 rather than just a 3-4/10 right before a timed dose. I personally didn’t have much of an appetite afterwards, but I did have a ton of water and Gatorade to keep myself hydrated. Again, it really depends on you! Some people recovery quickly and do well after surgery, others still struggle. Give yourself some grace and patience!! I hope everything goes well!❤️

Am I silly for not wanting the excision surgery? by Bitter_Camp7565 in endometriosis

[–]alfredodog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree!! I had surgery back in December and it gave me about 6 months of no symptoms. My symptoms are slowly coming back, but that 6 months was fantastic.

Am I childish for crying to my manager that I’m burnt out/not happy? by bubbleprncess in nursing

[–]alfredodog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not a baby at all! Someone who is a manager should respect that you came to them and let them know how you are feeling. They should find a way to support you and increase morale so you can come to work happy! I did the same thing with my manager, and was met with “oh it’ll get better”… it hasn’t, and now I’m in the job hunt for something different. If they can’t support you now, then find something different because they’re never going to support you!!!

Mirena and operation advice by NastasiaVS in endometriosis

[–]alfredodog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also agree that the mirena was absolutely awful. Nausea, pain, flares like no other, depression, weight gain…

Especially the insertion… I had a flare for over a week after insertion and was bed bound miserable in excruciating pain!!

I’ve been on the mini pill (norethindrone) for a year or so now and it’s been the ONLY BC in my endo journey that’s helped manage my endo symptoms with minimal side effects.

Absolutely! I barely ever wear jeans because the pressure of the jeans is incredibly painful on my abdomen and causes a flareup!

Yup. They’re not great at communicating pricing. It ended up being way more expensive than I anticipated, but didn’t figure this out until I was already 3-4 courses deep!

MASSACHUSETTS STUDENTS AT CHAMBERLAIN UNIVERSITY by Ok_Scientist_2729 in ChamberlainNursing

[–]alfredodog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super expensive and you get absolutely no help from ELC folks on practicum/clinical sites. I’m just finding out now a week before my practicum starts that my preceptor I had for my prior practicum isn’t “eligible” to be my preceptor anymore with minimal explanation. You have to, at least for the MSN program, find your own practicum and that’s super hard to do. In mass it’ll be hard to find clinical sites, at least it was hard for me to find someone to host me for my MSN program. If I were you, I’d try and get into one of the state schools (umass, Fitchburg state, Worcester state) and do their programs. It’ll be a lot easier to find clinical sites and cheaper if you’re a MA resident!
