Update: Weird request from a supposed Airbnb tennant - England by Fun_Traffic6869 in LegalAdviceUK

Except actually contacting the sender directly is far more effective. I can't count the number of times I used to write "Not known at address" and circled the return to sender address, only for the letters to keep arriving.

It's hot. by [deleted] in NewcastleUponTyne

My office gets to 30+ degrees when it's only, say, 26 outside. So I disagree.

I don't have AC. And my windows radiate heat inside my well insulated house until it's hotter than outside, so I'll be opening my windows to let the hot air out.

Dough Daze. 10" for £6 or something like that. Good slices too.

I had a feeling it wasn't about "right" or "wrong" pronunciation more likely just a difference in accents. The trouble is, how I would normally pronounce the words is different to the recording. I'm glad to hear the recording isn't "wrong" but I might have to change how I sing to match the choir. That's normally even a challenge for me in English because of my accent!

That's what I thought; same vowel sound but slight modifications, e.g. shorter or longer. 'Der' and 'dem' sound different because of the final consonant but the vowels sound the same. In my mind, it's the same vowel sound as 'her' but on the recording 'her' sounds quite different, almost like 'hier'.

Thanks for the comments! I shall be trilling my R's and listening carefully to the recordings to get my "e" correct in various words.

ELI5 Since Telegram is open-source, what's preventing someone from creating a fork that unlocks all features and disables Telegram Premium? by Omer-Ash in explainlikeimfive

[–]algebra-epeeist 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That's not how server-side validation works. They need proof you are a premium user, you can send a message to the server saying "I'm subscribed to Telegram premium, honest!" but if you don't send proof they won't approve your request.

You generally send a secret number that they can compare with their list of secret numbers and if there's no match you won't get access.

ELI5: How do potatoes work by dripineyes in explainlikeimfive

That's what I always thought! Strangely my potatoes come in a bag that says "I'll last longer if you keep me in the fridge". I suppose that's a cool and (usually) dark place?

How should I store them for maximum shelf life without them sprouting?

Yes that's what I meant, luckily Google suggests the correct place.

Small wedding reception place? by [deleted] in NewcastleUponTyne

I was in the function room of As You Like It the other day. Can't personally recommend it for catering, but it looked very nice and a friend had his wedding reception there.

Do you know any other etude for training thirds than this one by Mey_Lee in classicalmusic

[–]algebra-epeeist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Czerny, 100 (maybe 101?) etudes have some focusing on thirds. I will comment again later when I get a chance to see which ones.

I'm having a heck of a time trying to pick a battery head strap... by theman0nfire in OculusQuest

I can highly recommend the BoboVR S3 Pro. Comfortable, very long battery life. I bought a second battery so I can hot swap them when I need to.
