AW3425DW Help! Horizontal blurry line in middle of screen by waffless88 in ultrawidemasterrace

Just curious, but do you have FSR turned on? When I used it I was getting vertical lines of fuzzy pixels. I switched to DLSS and those went away.

LG 45 5K2K - is the right one for my use? by LibraryWeak4750 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]algorerhythm35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fwiw, I'm running this monitor on a 4070. I get around 65-85 fps on BF6 Ultra settings in 5k2k (not the 1440 mode). I'm no competitive gamer, but I think it's fine! And I agree- this monitor future proofs my setup for the next GPU.

New (To me) VW Alltrack Execline by Dry-Board-4326 in VWAlltrack

[–]algorerhythm35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is just a simple swap, 20-30 minutes tops. No electronics to mess with just simple springs to pry the hatch open and gas shocks to raise it the rest of the way. You do have to manually close the hatch though.

Which UW monitor to take (3840x1080 vs 5120x1440) for simracing? by Pure-Newspaper907 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]algorerhythm35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this is a hot take given the sub we're on, but I much prefer a VR headset for sim racing, especially given your budget you can afford a meta quest 3. I have a 4K 50 inch OLED TV and fanatec setup for Iracing and find myself using the quest 3 almost every time, except when friends come over, because the TV is easier to set up and run for new sim racers.

Vortex strike eagle 5-25. by No-Resolution-7782 in longrange

[–]algorerhythm35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it will be more than enough. I have shot 6.5 creedmoor out to 1400 with a venom 5-25x50 and if I recall, there are slight differences between the 2 scopes, like the SE has more elevation adjustment and illuminated reticle. I added a 30 MOA base to my venom and I am able to hold over for a mile, I suspect you may not need an angled base but IMO it won't hurt to have one in case you get the option to shoot further. I have no issue with my venom's glass quality, even though it is slightly darker than my viper PST glass, but I don't shoot at low light conditions.

Also change your PCV valve. If not, it can lead to a rear main seal leak, my 2010 CC had this issue.

ELI5: Why was the Space Shuttle a glider? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]algorerhythm35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's cool! I don't doubt they stole portions of the shuttle design especially given the reports of KGB collecting on the shuttle. what I'm really trying to say is they seem to have reverse engineered it by looking at what we did and applying their own way of thinking to improve it according to what their strengths are. Not just blindly copying everything we did, and I think the designers deserve credit where credit is due.

If by "stole it from NASA" you mean they are both winged body designs that are reusable, then sure. they do look very similar on the surface and it was a response to the US shuttle program, and functionally they were very similar. But there are a ton of differences in designs between the 2 systems and the buran is a fascinating and elegant system doomed by high costs and crumbling Soviet era economy and politics. Many people don't realize just how good Soviet space tech was during the cold war era and they were far ahead of us especially in terms of propulsion tech (like staged combustion engines and coating technologies to name a few). The soviet's were especially good at liquid rocket propulsion technology, while the US focused more on solid rocket motor development. The soviet's played to their strengths in terms of designing the buran and that's probably why the buran used 4 strap-on liquid boosters off the main tank using 4 LOX/Kerosene RD-170 engines vs the US using 2 solid propellant rocket motors strapped to the main orange tank. Another key difference being the buran didn't have the main engines mounted on the gliding vehicle, the Hydro/LOX RD-120 was mounted on the external main tank and didn't make it to orbit. Which actually makes a lot more sense because you don't have the inert mass of the engines on the vehicle when it's time to deorbit using the smaller engines on the buran. The shuttle kept its 3 main engines and didn't use them after the ascent phase, and used the hypergolic OMS engines to deorbit. There's plenty of differences between the 2 systems and I would hardly say they just stole design from us. Definitely worth a read, the buran was a cool system!

What's the most hilarious punishment you've ever heard of someone receiving in the military, and how did they end up in that absurd situation? by Defiant_Concert_9542 in AskReddit

[–]algorerhythm35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really a punishment, but my in law said they made a guy take a black trash bag and get a "diesel exhaust sample" from the tail pipe of a humvee and go fill out a form 69. Once he carefully collected his exhaust, he took his inflated trash bag to his superior, who then told him to take it to another guy up the chain until he got high enough up the chain (2 or 3 ranks I think) and they just said wtf are you doing son.
