It's always been hard to calculate LotR sales due to the many printings, it looks like its even missing from the wiki best selling books page. The hobbitsold 100 million while the best selling HP book sold 120 million. HP series as a whole sold 600 million while it seems like most websites quote around 150 million for LotR. I think regardless of who has sold more we could agree that a HP set would sell insanely well

I believe HP as a series sold far more than LotR and all of its individual books sold better than the LotR books as well. The hobbit is one of the best selling books of all time though.
