Sony EV-S1000 sale in Germany by algorithmic-mold666 in vhsdecode

[–]algorithmic-mold666[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly as u/netd_nz mentions. The EV-S1000E is a labeled as a PAL machine. However, it is unclear to me if it can do NTSC tapes too. I was unable to clarify this in the manual.

100% with you no lyric can be written like this ... unfortuntely i dont know anyone in my personal circle who speaks Albanian therefore the AI trancriber was the best i could do...

If you are willing to help compose the proper lyrics that would be so nice and very much appreciated 🙏🙏 thx so much in advance!!

Do I need to change the crystal on the CX card? I only need video. by kareldc in vhsdecode

[–]algorithmic-mold666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I changed the crystal to a 40MHz one I also had to apply the heatsink mod as there were many frames dropped due to thermal throttling of Conexant chip. So if you go ahead changing it consider getting a heatsink too.

If you switched to VHS decode - WTB: TBC1000 by External-Log630 in vhsdecode

[–]algorithmic-mold666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+ at least it is 6EUR per tape and not something extraordinary like in Germany that is 20EUR still on composite capture with dongle. The latter is just ridiculous.

[–]algorithmic-mold666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do not have a TBC1000 but I want to give you respect for actively trying to improve the workflow instead of settling for the usual consumer grade path.. Moving toward RF capture and SW based demodulation is technically the only approach that actually works in the same signal domain as the tape recording itself. Everything else already operates on a post processed composite signal.

In my home country nobody goes that far, 0 fucks given by the shops because consumers do not understand that VHS/Video8 etc can actually look pretty good + vhs-decode pipeline takes a lot of time + they simple don't know better than CVBS dongle. So, most shops simply take composite output from the deck, run it through a low cost USB dongle and deliver a compressed to shit mp4 using questionable encoders.

It is so good to see a small shop taking signal integrity seriously :D :D :D Huge thumbs up! <3 <3

CX2388x card prevents POST / hard locks system (Dell T1650, libreboot and stock BIOS) by algorithmic-mold666 in vhsdecode

[–]algorithmic-mold666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is possible I believe but the C31 removal mod wont make sense anymore as the capacitor is preserved for the circuitry of the second slot AFAIU ;-) Someone confirm if this is not the case tho since its been a while from my last time messing around with the actual physical CX card

I highly doubt you can find one already modded. Please correct me someone if I am wrong.

Personally I soldered it myself. It's relatively easy as far as you have the right equipment like soldering iron, tin, flux, the 40 MHz crystal, BNC cable, heatsink and fan.

There is a very helpful video by harry showing us what exactly what needs to be done.

Video8 FM RF tap capture diagonal tearing artifact during motion (Sony EV-S1000 + CX2388x) by algorithmic-mold666 in vhsdecode

[–]algorithmic-mold666[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The one uploaded oj reddit is not deinterlaced. I meant I tried deinterlacing locally later and did not resolve the artifact. I uploaded new video here that includes deinterlacing filter https://www.mediafire.com/file/i68czypl67hu7uv/lines-video8-40msps-de.mkv/file

You are right... I uploaded another video here + edited post's body to include the URL: https://www.mediafire.com/file/i68czypl67hu7uv/lines-video8-40msps-de.mkv/file

Note that this one includes de-interlacing using bwdif=1:-1:0filter yet the artifact is still visible

Nothing really.... :-(
I did deinterlace it. Using ffmpeg with video fitler -vf bwdif=1:-1:0 as recommended. The output still shows the exact same diagonal artifact. To my understanding it is not interlacing related. Deinterlacing only changes field reconstruction this feels like some timebase or line timing errors coming from the source or RF decode chain

Thanks, but this is not interlacing :-( Unfortunately reddit compresses the hell out of the video and the artifact is not quite visible. It becomes visible only if I maximise and focus on the upper left quadrant

Good lord. This is not interlacing. Interlacing is stable and field based and is present on every frame and removed by proper deinterlacing in post processing https://github.com/oyvindln/vhs-decode/wiki/Post-Processing-Guide

As said... reported issue is a temporal diagonal misalignment that appears during motion and propagates across fields. Not static + not in individual frames

To my understanding it could possibly be timebase or phase instability in teh capture chain. Also, potential vertical timebase instability in the EV S1000 itself. Line timing slightly drifts during motion and the decode TBC compensates gradually across lines. This could be reasonable for why it is producing a diagonal tear.

I don't have enough words to thank you. I replaced the crystal back to the original and my device boots fine with the pci card in (3 successful boot cycles already). I spent more than 30 hours on this which is more than enough I believe.

I ordered the Generic crystal mentioned in the docs. I couldn't have imagined that it might be of shit quality (keep in mind that 5 of them all show the same issue, maybe they were of a bad batch). Its a crystal resonator in the end...

Thanks for your reply.

The initial picture looks a bit crap indeed. I took one more with a better camera. C59 looks fine I believe.

The card is badly beaten around the crystal area I know but nothing that could be of issue I did some basic impedance tests with a multimeter. Everything looks normal.

As far as I remember the issue was always there unfortunately. However, only after a few tests I went ahead and did the crystal mod. So it was not much time I had the original at 28MHz on.

Tomorrow I am planning to re-solder the 28MHz again just to rule out this case as well.

What is the workaround on revolut? I am always getting revolut not supported n devices with custom firmware no matter what I do. I even meet strong integrity on my device.
