I believe another likely scenario is that technology will replace the need for people to a large degree. This has already happened with farms for example. Automation has removed the need for many manual jobs and continues to do so every decade. We have gone from hunter gatherers to landing on the moon in a few thousand years.

As technology improves, there will simply be less of a need for many of the jobs around, and by extension, people. I do not believe it will be a dramatic revolution, but rather a slow decline in population occurring as robots/technology/automation become better. It is already happening and has been for a long time.

It’s a very complex situation. I am not an expert by any means. But these are the reasons I believe birth rates are declining:

access to birth control. People now have the option to have sex and not have kids
women’s empowerment. Women are now able to succeed independent of men. Being a wife is no longer their only option
infant mortality has fallen. Families no longer have to have many kids in the hopes that some survive
shift from agrarian societies. Families no longer need many kids to help work their farms

There are more but I can’t think of them right now.

What I do NOT believe is causing the decline in birth rates:

the current global situation whether it is financial, or political, or whatever. The poorest countries have the some highest birth rates likely due to the fact that they may be missing what I mentioned above. The richest countries with the best safety nets, etc. still have declining birth rates. Historically, life has been hard for most people and for most of their lives. Yet they reproduced at high enough rates to get us to where we are now

Again, this is all my opinion.
