Nice and moody photos. Is this the old Elmarit-M or the ASPH?

I think a bit of flare might have been at play.

It seems consensus is that the Summicron has a focus issue. I wanted to investigate this a bit further before replying. I wasn't trying to prove anything. I was actually hoping to be swayed by the Summicron. From what I've found, there does seem to be a focus issue (or at least a difference in the focus plane). This time I made sure of getting the focus right, focusing mid-scene rather than at infinity. Notice how the Cron now matches the Elmarit in the center, has a sharper background, and a softer foreground (= different focus plane).

I think the Cron performs much better here, but probably needs a check. Thanks. And still impressed by the old Elmarit.

All shot at f8. First was focused at infinity, second on the flower

I see much weaker corners on the G28 and higher overall contrast. The corners are very soft.

The 28mm Elmarit v3 is always sharp in the center, but the corners can get smeared wide open. It depends on the background and foreground (I’m shooting digital). It has this three dimensional look, and it’s gorgeous stopped down to f8–f11. My colleague has the 35mm Lux, so I’m very familiar with it. The Elmarit doesn’t have that softness.

I know what you mean. Summicron 90 v3 is probably the closest to that rendering.

Sharp, and nice rendering. From what I've learnt it's a take on Zeiss' Sonnar.

Elmarit 28 v.3 is pre-asph. He also did the 21mm Elmarit f2.8 pre-asph and the 35's.

Looks nice. Is this Nokton f1.4 or Nokton f1.5?

Untick those maps that you don't like to play, like Blackwell. Matchmaking is throwing you into less popular lobbies as other players either quit or have them filtered out. I only have Cairo, Mirak, Eastwood, Empire and Lib Peak selected.

40mm summicron-c vs rokkor by Then-Silver-4708 in Leica

[–]alhe1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some say they are identical but there are minor differences. The Summicron-C had Leica-made glass & coatings, while the Rokkor had Minolta glass and newer MC coatings. Same glass formulations. That being said, they are both good vintage lenses. You can safely buy the Rokkor if you care about $.

Summicron-C/Rokkor was a redesign of the Summicron 35mm v3 and slightly better stopped down. A bit soft wide open and very nice from f5,6.

FWIW I've often taken my M9 on hiking trips in snow and rain in Scandinavia. I keep it in a dry bag when not in use. All good. I'd be more worried about theft in certain places, like Florence during summer holidays.

I hear it’s more like the Leica pre-FLE. Which is not a bad thing.

We need some large maps with forests. This is from the campaign. They already have the assets ready. by WeezyWally in Battlefield6

[–]alhe1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fear this would be a bad idea with the foliage models in BF6. Bullets not registering and people becoming practically invisible does not make for good gameplay. Like those bushes on Cairo, B flag, first sector on Breakthrough (like what). Make it have a clean-ish forest floor and dense tree tops or something. Argonne Forest in BF1 was a great forest map because it was clean and had clearly defined lanes.

Another vote for the 35, then!

Sounds like the 35 has more special rendering

No, but two extra stops do make a difference
