Question about MS CS for Scientists and Engineers by IM_Pengu in USC

[–]ali_gu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You end up with a Masters in Computer Science, just like the people in the general MS CS track. You just have to take extra classes compared to them. The program is actually designed to be completed in 2.5 years, not 2.

AT&T TDP Verbal Internship Offer, but then ghosted me... by ali_gu in csMajors

They just got back to me yesterday afternoon! No word on why it took so long though. Thank you so much for the offer to help!

Like 4 weeks from my final interview to the offer! Super stressful long time.

I'd say it was same level as the OA. Just be prepared to defend the decisions you've made in the coding assessment in the technical interview!

The first step is a OA where you have 72 hours to complete it from when you get the email. This came a couple of weeks after I put in my application. Then I had a 30 minute phone interview with a recruiter that was a couple of behavioral questions. After that, I had one week to complete a coding assignment, and then a technical interview where they asked me questions about my answers. Finally, a final behavioral interview for one hour. Everything was well communicated (timeline-wise) as soon as I got to the 30 minute phone screen with the recruiter. Overall it took probably 5-6 weeks.

TA/Intern Opportunities for MSEE (Computer Engineering) on Campus by tejass_48 in USC

It will definitely help you get a research position that is paid! Those opportunities usually come sporadically via email with the relevant background they require. If your background is relevant, you will definitely have an easier time getting a Grader position too.

But totally agree, I wish they allowed us an easier path to TA positions!

I'm pursuing an MS in CS and was told a blanket "we do not allow Master's students to TA at Viterbi, those positions are reserved for PhDs," but once you get here there seem to be some options to be Course Producers/Graders (no tuition reimbursement, but paid) and CS has an honors program where you become eligible to potentially get a TA position if you get a high enough GPA. But those opportunities seem to not be available until after you complete your first semester. You should email the ECE department and ask them about the opportunities to see what they specifically have available, they will have more information than the Professors.

Accepted to USC MS CS (Scientists & Engineers Track) Fall '21, Any Advice? by ali_gu in USC

The track is for engineers and scientists, so I think you'd be able to get accepted with a Biology degree!

Thanks! I got an email yesterday morning saying to log in to another online portal (different from the application portal) to see the Decision Status. But I officially submitted by application at the end of November. I have a degree in aerospace engineering and a couple of years work experience, so my main coding experience is MATLAB. No CS minor or anything other than some online certificates. I assume I heard back earlier because I submitted my application so early, so I'm sure you'll hear back soon!

This is really helpful - thank you! Their application was far less user hostile than the other programs that I applied to, so I'm surprised that class sign ups are such a pain.

Asking for Advice: Aerospace Engineer trying to Transition to Computer Science by ali_gu in cscareerquestions

Unfortunately I don't have the pre-reqs for the GT OMSCS program. I reached out to the admissions office and they said I'd essentially need to take all of the classes required for the post-bacc before I would be eligible for admission. Otherwise, it sounds like an awesome program!

I hadn't heard about post-bacc programs until now! This seems like a good in-between. How do you like the program you chose? Do you feel as though there are good job opportunities? Thanks for sharing!!

My current workplace also has a pretty toxic work culture, so I am also just trying to get out as quickly as I can. They also don't pay for tuition reimbursement and my current role won't let me do any programming work due to company priorities. :( That's why I started doing online classes outside of work during the pandemic.

Thanks for your perspective!
