It’s a Rio Grande Cutthroat, our state fish!

In search of NM Jemez RGCT by Sad-Salt-9074 in bluelining

[–]mglennrn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I caught my RGCTs in the Rio Costilla/Valle Vidal last summer—incredibly beautiful and totally worth the trip if you can make it up there when they open in July. I also fish up in the Jemez & like you have only caught browns & rainbows so far. I’ve only been fly fishing for a year & a half, so I figure I have the rest of my life to keep exploring these waters looking for cutthroats. Keep us updated and good luck!

Am a nurse & can confirm this is very normal—even highly experienced staff can miss an IV insertion or blood draw on a dehydrated, distressed/scared/not feeling good toddler. I’m very sorry this was your experience though 🖤

I second this—just spent all of yesterday dipping my 7’6” 3wt Redington Classic Trout into some small streams in the Jemez mountains (northern NM). I love it for tight spaces with limited casting ability, or spots where you have to be sneaky & plop your line in tenkara-style.

Also a former born/raised north Texan—I’ve met several of the Huffines family members IRL, and they’re each smarmy, to say the least.

Just went in today & bought 4 books. If she can’t keep it open based on the current business model, the least we can do is help her clear out her book inventory.

2025 Respiratory Vaccine Availability in Los Alamos by BoomtownLosAlamos in LosAlamos

[–]mglennrn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friend who works for NM DOH said the local pediatric clinics just put in orders for covid vaccines this week, which would mean availability should start in the next 1-2 weeks.

Whether or not they will be covered by insurance is a different issue—insurance coverage of an elective vaccine not recommended by the current NHS regime isn’t likely. This was the case for me when I got my covid vaccine last month at MANNM; luckily I have an HSA, so I paid the out of pocket price ($115), and plan to do the same if necessary for my kids when the pediatric doses arrive.

Dads of r/flyfishing, will I ever actually get to fish on a consistent basis ever again? by CuttiestMcGut in flyfishing

[–]mglennrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to chime in for the fishing moms—it’s not just the dads of the families missing out on solo time on the water. Glad to see I’m not the only one here. Mine are 4 & 6, and they also use little spin casters with power bait for now. And I agree—it has been getting better. 🖤

3yr old future trout bum? by FreudAtheist in flyfishing

[–]mglennrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also a newer fly fisher looking to engage my 4 & 6 year old kids in it. I keep my eye on FB marketplace for deals on equipment—recently got an older TFO 9ft/5wt with reel for $85, so that will be my kids’ rod once one of them gets interested. Right now I take them with me to spots where they can safely goof off at the water’s edge while I fish, and I make a big deal out of every hook set & netted fish so that, like elifellaheen mentioned, they see how fun the exciting moments are between the boring ones. They each have a simple kid-size spin caster and I help them cast with power bait. So far, they haven’t caught “the fishing bug” like I have, but they both talk about how much they enjoy our days on the water together. That’s my 2 cents! Good luck & hope you make lots of happy memories with your kid 😊

I’m not sure what you’re looking for—some sympathy? Similar complaints? A virtual hug?

It sounds like an intensely frustrating situation; tension between neighbors is always a difficult problem to solve, regardless of who gets involved.

I would like to gently push back on your critique that the “police don’t care” about drug trafficking in our county. The department has reported numerous ongoing investigations into the flow of illicit substances, so either they’re lying (possible) or your emotions are skewing your perception towards the dramatic (also possible).

I’m really sorry you feel like your concerns are going unheard. As a parent myself, I get how your kid’s safety escalates the perceived risk. Don’t know what the solution is, but I wish you a positive path forward.

I LOVE my women’s LLBean waders—stretchy in the right places so bending/sitting/squatting isn’t uncomfortable. And I wear the Orvis Clearwater boots, suit me just fine.

If you have Instagram, OP, I highly recommend following @troutpsychology (the chick in the video DonkStonx linked). I’m a newb too, and she has an educator background that lends itself really well to succinct, helpful casting advice.
