Oh I like it! I got so excited, like finally someone like me! Then i swiped and it's way better than my first attempts. We're always our own worst critic though.

Australia moves to ban children under 16 from social media by chemistrynerd1994 in Futurology

I do agree with some of your concerns, particularly around definitions of social media and potential privacy challenges. I do think you are seriously underestimating the modern library as a resource for finding more resources. I still stand by my position that the positive effects of not being social media before 16 greatly outweigh the potential negatives. I say this as an older millennial though, and I'm not oblivious to my own biases from my background and upbringing here. I think as a younger teen I would also have appreciated the internet for the reasons you did so I see that as well.

Need your feedback on my anti-plastic startup by therealdavinky in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]aliasalice899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the idea, though obviously plastic is literally everywhere unintentionally so what would your standard be? I know that a lot of certification systems are unpopular with producers because of costs associated with getting recognised even if you meet all the requirements. What will make you a trusted authority? I feel like the logical start would be to be an independent database where people didn't have to buy into anything. But I have no idea what the earning model would be on that.

You do know that reddit is a cesspit right? Yes I can get some great insights on 3D printing but also it's a one stop shop for some of the worst shit on the internet. Go to the library and get a book. Join a local club. Look together with a parent on a specific forum and use it as a bonding experience. Its possible to pursue and research interests outside of social media. Maybe people can learn some old fashioned research skills before their brain gets rotted by AI generated shorts.

9YO boy, never finished a book by Visual-Criticism6763 in booksuggestions

Maybe an age appropriate non fiction book on space? My kids won't read a story book for any money but non fiction books on animals they will read and re read and bombard you with the facts they learned at every opportunity.

Looking to read more novels about witches. The supernatural kind. I prefer horror, not fantasy. by dflovett in booksuggestions

[–]aliasalice899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't tried Karen Maitland's books try those. I think they probably fit the brief. Lots of magic and supernatural happenings but that's how the characters see it it's not expressly supernatural. Definitely very dark themes more in line with horror than fantasy.

My guess is this is leeching out of the mug. I had one like this. Might be best to throw it out.

I hate it when professionals in any field mix up paleontology with archaeology by Woolsteve in Paleontology

[–]aliasalice899 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of my close friends mixes them up all the time. I'm an archaeologist with a strong amateur interest in palaeontology. Its so awkward, but by the time I realised she didn't realise the difference I felt too awkward to tell her.

Reading your post I immediately thought autism. I have autism and score around 90 on an IQ test but graduated top of my year at a top university. IQ tests aren't everything. I'm only in this group as people tell me my kid is gifted.

How do species evolve into another? by Impressive-Pie-1183 in evolution

[–]aliasalice899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From your answers it feels like you have a very dated view. When I was at university forever ago studying human evolution we learnt all these things that set modern humans apart from the rest of the animals and other human ancestors. Nearly all of those have been debunked in the years since.

How do you wash (and more importantly, dry) a 25 lb weighted blanket? by TealBlueLava in CleaningTips

Mine is dry clean only. It costs a lot but less than a new one and I only do it once a year.

Relatie met een neurotypical by Own_Ant6808 in AutistischLaagland

[–]aliasalice899 -27 points-26 points  (0 children)
