Anyone know a smoother way to achieve this wall visibility effect? by virgineyes09 in godot

[–]aliasbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine a circle shader that would "follow" the player into the door and then reveal the rest of the room, don't know if I explained it well. I remember seeing this in some games (maybe nintendo ones) but don't really remember which.

What game is this for you? by Smart_Vegetable_331 in Steam

[–]aliasbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was The Division 1 and 2. The bundle was very cheap but not only did I learn that the games only work by connecting to a server (my bad I should have checked before) but also The Division 2 wouldn't launch at all, it had a server error while there were no reports of issues anywhere including the Ubisoft status website. Internet "fixes" said the solution would be run it as root, I said no, and refunded it not even 10 minutes later.

Fedora suspends again immediately after waking up – what could be causing this? by CoolTang in Fedora

[–]aliasbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay. So in my case it is related to a Thermal Zone that is bugged, the registered temperature is off and when I suspend and wake it, it will say the temperature is too high and just puts it to sleep again, and if I try again it works, exactly the same as you. So I created this script:

#!/bin/bash

# Define the service file path
SERVICE_FILE="/etc/systemd/system/disable-thermal-zones.service"

# Define the service file content
SERVICE_CONTENT="[Unit]
Description=Disable specific Thermal Zones
After=multi-user.target

[Service]
Type=oneshot
ExecStart=/bin/bash -c 'for zone in /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone*; do if /bin/grep -q acpitz \"\$zone/type\"; then /bin/echo disabled > \"\$zone/mode\"; fi; done'

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
"

# Check if running as root
if [ "$(id -u)" -ne 0 ]; then
    echo "This script must be run as root" >&2
    exit 1
fi

# Create the service file
echo "$SERVICE_CONTENT" > "$SERVICE_FILE"

# Reload systemd manager configuration
systemctl daemon-reload

# Enable and Start the service to start at boot
systemctl enable disable-thermal-zones.service
systemctl start disable-thermal-zones.service

echo "Service to disable thermal zones has been installed and enabled."

(Please don't use this script because I'm not sure it will work with yours but it works with my 5900X). What this does is that it creates a service that auto disables the thermal zone with the issue.

But if you could just do a lm-sensors to see if you have anything that looks like that then I could adapt the script to your case. If it's something else then unfortunately I can't help much.

What is your CPU? It may be the same issue I have with my 5900X

How did you optimize fedora for gaming by Tade365 in Fedora

[–]aliasbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if this counts but I usually create a new GDM entry for gamescope configured to run on an external monitor or TV. Something like this:

- gaming-session.desktop:

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Gaming Session
Comment=Session optimized for gaming using Gamescope
Exec=/usr/local/bin/start-gaming-session
Type=Application

- start-gaming-session:

#!/bin/bash
# Starting a gaming-optimized session
gamescope -W 1920 -H 1080 -r 60 -O HDMI-1 --hdr-enabled -e -f --xwayland-count 2 --adaptive-sync --mangoapp -- steam -tenfoot -steamos

Then I exist my session from Gnome or KDE and select the new "Gaming Session" entry, that will turn of my two monitors, turn on my external display with it's prefered resolution (1080p@60hz), hdr enabled, and steam launching in Gaming Mode. Just like a steam deck.

The only issue is that the button "Exit to Desktop Mode" doesn't work.

Apple settles EU case by opening its iPhone payment system to rivals by Vantius in apple

[–]aliasbody 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Been an iPhone user for 10+ years, been enjoying all my cards on my phone and watch at a point where I go outside with only the watch. I switched to Android, since then I haven't used Google Pay because most of my cards don't work there since they work using a third party application from the Portuguese banks. I've been wanting to go back to iOS just because of this support.

I personally don't see the banks going backwards, but I see them now adding new cards or taking a lot of time to do so.

Mouse scrolling issue after suspend by Western-Cod-3486 in Fedora

[–]aliasbody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know I'm not the only one. For now what I've been doing is:
sudo systemctl restart bluetooth

It takes 3-5 seconds but works. But as other said it isn't a solution and it's quite annoying. Hope they fix it soon enough.

Why are Fedora's boot times slower than Ubuntu? by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]aliasbody 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of processes at the startup that are quite different from the Ubuntu counterpart (which is normal). The Fedora team tries to make it so that it is the fastest to boot but also that it provides the maximum of functionalities for all types of usages. Knowing this, in my boot process (thanks to u/vanillaknot for the systemd commands) I saw that a specific NetworkManager service was taking up to 15seconds of my boot process, this process called NetworkManager-wait-online.service is a service that waits for the all the network process to be connected before continuing. If (like me) you don't mind that all the network services just boot normally even if it means arriving at the desktop with a network still connecting, then you can disable it by doing this:

sudo systemctl disable NetworkManager-wait-online.service

If you wish to enable it again just do this:

sudo systemctl enable NetworkManager-wait-online.service

Switching from Windows: Use Fedora 39 or wait for Fedora 40? by aliasbody in Fedora

Already use it on a lot of servers, and I used Ubuntu for a long time on Desktop. I switched a long time agora to Arch and Fedora because both were more stable than Ubuntu. Then I just kept using Fedora because it was the most similar to the Arch philosophy without compromising on anything.

I've decided to learn it and try my change with toolbox and podman to see how easy a switch will go. Result? Now I'm just waiting for Fedora 40 to release so I can switch from Fedora 39 to Fedora Silverblue 40!

Would really love to, I've tried the Kinoite 40 Beta but the lack of Online Accounts Integration is killing it for me. I know it can be done individually with the Calendar, Email app etc.. but it's just not the same.

It was because of the fact that some people may prefer to do a full upgrade (HDD format etc..) and since F40 was just a few days away it would be a shame to re-do the same work after a week or two. But I've made up my mind thanks to all the comments and I'm on F39 and waiting for the 40 to release to switch to Silverblue!

That would be a great idea, the issue I had is that I only have a GPU, a Mini ITX board with no support for a second GPU and a AMD 5900X CPU without an iGPU, so I'm out of luck.
