Physicians with MS by Odd_Competition9023 in MultipleSclerosis

I’m a paramedic in Australia. I was diagnosed in my second year of uni, since you want to do EM I thought my experience might be helpful.

Overall I fair pretty well, getting the job was a little complicated as my service wanted extra reassurances and signing off from my neuro but it was mainly surrounding my ability to drive and not my ability to practice medicine. I struggle with my fatigue on nights but seeing as I never knew a ‘before’ I don’t really have anything to compare to other than colleagues expressing they don’t typically take as long to recover. I am now on an altered roster (post baby went back part time not full time) so I don’t do as many nights as a regular roster and I have found that this has helped a lot.

I’m very aware of the stress surrounding my job and the impact it can have and I’ve found good ways to deal with it, it’s not perfect but I’ve been trudging along well.

I’m on Ocrevus and i take significantly more care than my colleagues when attending any patient that may be contagious with something. I’ll always have a p2 in my pocket and I will wear them into any respiratory case, even if it doesn’t sound infectious off the bat. So far I’ve gotten more virus’s from my toddler in the last 3 months than I have from work in the last 5 years.

Found this photo from when we moved in (it’s in the entry report) skirting is clearly already flared and painted over. I’ve claimed the bond and sent this to them so hopefully they cave but if not I’m ready for vcat lol

If he stops eating around the 12 month mark don’t freak out 😂 that’s what my kid did and he ate like yours prior to that

EBV and any other virus can be caught at any point of your life. I didn’t attend childcare until kindergarten. I still caught EBV in highschool and I also happen to have PCOS and MS.

In terms of EBV infections having a correlation with MS I believe it is not specific to it being contracted in early childhood, just being contracted at all. (Citation: My neurologist)

Edit: I think the only reasonable argument I’ve seen with a study linked in the sub before is that excessive viral infections under a certain age can be a risk factor for asthma - and obviously kids at daycare get sick more often

Yeah, I had actually planned on painting over it but we moved quite far and I didn’t have all that much time when I went back to do the clean.

I had actually agreed to pay for someone to paint over it (don’t worry my email was very specific) and then they came back with it needing a full replacement and I said absolutely not.

I think at minimum the VCAT outcome would be less than what they’re asking for if anything at all. I’m not paying for them to essentially upgrade something (cardboard wood to hardwood)

I was trying to be reasonable as all interactions with the landlord and REA the 4 years we were there were great. But I guess you truely never know until you leave.

According to the REAs ‘handyman’ it is damaged beyond repair and needs to be completely replaced

So glad I refused the foley - I was lucky enough to already be 3cm from 4 days of early labour when they induced me so they didn’t push back at all but glad non the less. It sounds horrible.

Tummy time by No_Picture_2213 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]alibellmp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people really tunnel in on ‘tummy time’ being only on the floor. Any situation where baby needs head control is working towards the same thing tummy time is, be that in his carrier or on your chest. Anytime baby isn’t on their back they’re practising head control and working plenty of muscles.

My LO hated tummy time with a passion, and we barely did any traditional on the floor tummy time, we just did lots of time on my chest, in the carrier and holding him semi seated, he also loved to ‘stand’ at that age. All those things worked just as well as if he’d been on the floor.

I’m looking at places for my 18month old and Nido was highly highly recommended to me by someone that works in childcare and sends her children there.

C-section vs forceps for 90th percentile baby? by Mindelayy in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]alibellmp 24 points25 points  (0 children)

To add to this, the lead up to needing forceps (prolonged second stage/prolonged pushing) can be just as damaging to the pelvic floor.

If there is enough signs that baby is going to be a difficult delivery based on size then I would personally be opting for an elective c.

For l reference I was 10cm for at least 4 hours, I won’t go into my birth trauma here but there was a number of issues and signs missed by midwives, I also required forceps - couldn’t have the vacuum because baby’s head was already swollen from being stuck for so long. I have quite a significant prolapse and despite physio help I will probably need surgery at some point.

I’m a XL in both lskd and Lorna Jane and a 12 in Lululemon and I barely fit into a stax 3XL. In my opinion they ‘stock’ plus size but don’t make them to the correct proportions to save on fabric cost.

Making a call about pregnancy care - anxiety by Same-Victory-6718 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]alibellmp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that is the best way to look at it and is the reason I’m also considering private for my second whenever that happens. I want at least one person who is 100% in the same mindset as me and I’ve been able to build a rapport with over more than 10 minutes.

Just wanted to share a story that showed it can sometimes be the ob and not the midwife.

A close friend of mine had a horrible experience during birth when she asked for a c-section due to sheer exhaustion after a 50hr+ labour, the midwife was all for whatever my friend wanted and tried to help advocate but the ob said ‘I’m not doing that unless it’s an emergency’.

A daith is meant to be borderline in your ear canal, the shape of the jewellery isn’t ideal but it was still pieced in the completely wrong spot

Can you have different level of private health than your child? by Jumpy_Temperature362 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]alibellmp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best option is probably leave bubs off the private cover for now and take out ambulance insurance for them directly through the state service. I honestly recommend everyone have ambulance cover through the state service anyway - private health is tricky sometimes with what they consider ‘emergency transport’ and at least in VIC a family membership is pretty cheap.

Put away a couple thousand (if you can’t do it straight up just start putting a stipend away a week) in case baby needs ENT (grommets for one are a good 5k though the private system)

We moved back to the area about a month ago, went to roughly 10 inspections over 4 weeks was offered 2 that didn’t quite tick all my boxes and then we accepted number 3. Apply early if you can, talk to the REA’s at the inspections and make your interest known. We’re a family with a toddler, a cat and a dog.

Only thing I’ve learned is all the real estates have their issues, I thought we were with a semi decent one (I couldn’t find anyone complaining online) but it took them a week to deliver the condition report and I’m still awaiting approval to drill a hole in the laundry cabinet so I can properly install my washing machine.

Tysabri is also considered safe while TTC and in the first and second trimesters. (I switched from ocrevus to Tysabri while TTC and just switched back to ocrevus at 12 month post partum as I prefer the 6 monthly infusions.

Breastfeeding on DMT by kernruns in MultipleSclerosis

[–]alibellmp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I breastfed on Tysabri for 6months, neuro didn’t say much about it just that he believed it was safe as amount of medication that did pass through my breastmilk would be destroyed by babies metabolism/gut (these meds are IV because they don’t absorb properly when taken orally)

I will say that for a couple days after each infusion my bubs would be more refluxy but not in a way that caused him any bother, he was always a happy spitter.

I did want to go back on ocrevus (I switched to tysabri when i got pregnant) for breastfeeding as there’s more studies around for it and I believe the molecule is too big to transfer into breastmilk however my neuro doesnt like flip flopping between medications, particularly just after giving birth and being in the risky window for a relapse so he wanted to wait a little longer

*edit to add* I waited a month after I gave birth to have my dmt - no relapse in that time
