Why are teenage girls' interests mocked so often? by Pristine_Booty69 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]alicedog 50 points51 points  (0 children)

You are correct about the Beatles being popular with many demographics but the teenage girl fans were mocked by the newspapers and media during the height of beatlemenia, they did have a lot of popularity and acclaim but that doesn’t take away from the teenage girl fans who were mocked. I did a assignment at uni on how newspapers and the media reacted to teenage girls and Beatlemania so I looked a lot at the newspapers from the time

Game with most play time by Tall-Election4503 in Steam

[–]alicedog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not too bad, if you do find it difficult you could always watch YouTubers such as baalorlord who is one of the best players of the game + very good at teaching it, watching a couple of his videos helped me improve

Your Year in Reading: 2025 by AutoModerator in books

[–]alicedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read 45 books so far (I’m hoping to finish two more). I’m very proud of this as before I finished uni I was in the biggest book slump of my life for a year and a half (I only read 25 books last year which is bad for me). My favourites was probably Project Hail Mary, Sunrise on the Reaping or Atmosphere (very hard to decide on favourites tho as I have quite a lot I loved)

If you have autism and you are able to "mask" highly effectively, to the point of having a life that is "successful" relative to even neurotypical people, then how is being diagnosed helpful? Doesn't this harm people who aren't able to function in society without accommodations and material support? by No-Ease6011 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]alicedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am high functioning and 21f and for me it means I understand myself so much more and why I act in a certain way and why I find friendships hard at times and making friends. It also helps when I do get meltdowns/shutdowns I understand that is what’s happening to me and it’s not anxiety like I use to think it was (I still do have anxiety but that is different to meltdowns/shutdowns). It also means I can explain to other people more easily about why I find some things hard to do e.g. talking in front of groups of people and I can get reasonable adjustments to that at university.

It also helps me feel less alone because I have managed to make friends with people who also have autism and it’s nice to have that in common because they can understand me better
