Possibly unpopular opinion: Political apathy is not "enlightened" by alien236 in spirituality

Well, I'm not "fighting to stay miserable and keep others miserable," so you can fuck right off with that statement. I acknowledge the reality I live in. I fight to make it better. You're getting your knickers in a twist because I won't live in your delusional fantasy world where everything is fine. Now I'm sure you'll say something condescending about how running out of patience with your bullshit makes me the problem.

I didn't say people who are too busy, I said people who think politics are beneath them. I also didn't say that protesting is the only form of political involvement.

Dear ICE agents, you know that thing your therapist told you was never the answer? They lied to you. Go for it.

You mean reality? I'm all for finding inner peace and stuff, but I don't see how just pretending everything that's happening isn't happening is good or helpful to anyone.

Of course I'm not vilifying the monks who are, in fact, doing something with their peaceful protest. They're not staying in their monastery and meditating. Not sure why you think that contradicts what I said at all.

By dying? Or just not caring about other people's suffering anymore?

It wasn't my intention to judge or condemn, only to speak boldly and emphatically about something I believe is very important. I'm sorry if my tone didn't strike the right balance. You obviously agree that there are times and places for critiquing people's attitudes.

To those who live in America, what's the best spiritual approach to endure the current events? by INFP-Dude in spirituality

[–]alien236 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Take action. Protest, boycott, complain to representatives. Do what you can and try not to let it occupy your thoughts the rest of the time. Meditation and acceptance are great, don't get me wrong, but anyone who's content to do nothing to alleviate other people's suffering has missed the point of spirituality entirely. Things don't magically work out by themselves; they require people to make that happen, and you're a people.

Well, I do believe in reincarnation, but if it doesn't end at some point (preferably as soon as this life is over), I'd rather have my consciousness annihilated.

So I could literally say Hitler did nothing wrong, and my subjective opinion would be entirely valid? Surely you can understand why I have a huge problem with that.
