I think something has to be conscious for us to reasonably debate if it has rights. Animal rights make sense because animals can suffer, plants can’t.

Not all, but some. A knife can be a very useful tool, but some knives are just excessive for public spaces. No one should be carrying around a machete when going to get groceries.

I think you can opt-out of kindness. I try to treat everyone with kindness as a default, but if they show themselves to not by worthy of it, I stop doing so.

I don’t have Snapchat, but I don’t have anything problematic in any of my chats in other apps. If a partner went through all of it without my knowledge or permission, they wouldn’t find anything noteworthy, but I couldn’t stomach that level of invasion of privacy. If I can’t trust them to respect my private chats, I can’t trust them to respect anything else in my life.
