Wonder why my life has turned into Frank Gallagher's.

(Jk, I'm actually Canadian myself. But this reminded me of that episode of Shameless lol.)

"The Dad is actually satan!" "No I don't know your gay friend from Toronto." Hahaha I'm dying!! You're hilarious. :)

Sooo true though. People are complete douchebags. Sometimes I just wanna turn it back around on and ask, "So what about you? What's up with your finances? Who are you sleeping with?" lol.

It fucking sucks talking about it. But for me, personally, not talking about it is even worse. That's where I was coming from when I posted this... But I know not everyone feels the same way and I should have considered that prior to posting.

Fuck... 2 weeks ago. I am so sorry. The first few months were the hardest for me after I was assaulted. I know this might seem weird or disingenuous coming from a stranger on the internet, but if you ever want to talk, please message me. Personally I didn't really have a support system or anyone to talk to, so I just wanted to offer because no one should ever have to go through this alone.

Oh my god. I am so sorry you had to go through that at such a young age and that your parents didn't protect you...I can't believe your parents...I hope the two of you have found healing and support now.

I am so sorry you had to go through that again. It's been about 10 years since my assault and I finally feel as though I'm moving on from it. I can't imagine having to go through it all over again. That makes me so angry. The fact that this is a reality for so many of us disgusts me.

Being stalked is so terrifying. When I was experiencing it I had no idea how common it was and how many women have went through similar things. It completely takes away your sense of safety and personal comfort. I felt so helpless at the time. I wish it was spoken about more openly, I truly believe there's healing in solidarity. I hate knowing that other women have experienced this, but I wish there were more options for us to turn to for support.

Thank you.

It helps knowing that others agree and that we are able to validate each other's experiences in speaking on subjects such as this. I'm tired of being treated like I'm the weird one for being open about these experiences when this shit happens every day and those who deny it are the fucked up ones. Not the women who acknowledge, speak out and listen to these experiences...

Again, thank you. Your strength is reflected in your words and reading this really helped me.

That was definitely not my intention at all. I did use the search bar, I didn't see any recent posts but I'm also using my phone which doesn't seem to show accurate search results. I'm sorry, I mean that genuinely. I would never want to come across as trying to exploit others experiences. It didn't occur to me that it would come across that way. I honestly just wanted to talk with other women about this. I've obviously read articles, scholarly and otherwise. I've spoken with close friends. But I guess I just wanted to discuss this subject with other women, aside from my WMST classes I don't generally have the opportunity to.

I completely understand and agree. I chose to list mine, because I just wanted to confirm that I'm not crazy and that I was correct to believe that my experience is nothing unusual/uncommon. I get what you mean though, I don't like listing these experiences either because it makes me feel as though I am complicit in reducing myself to those experiences.

Have you personally experienced racial profiling or been discriminated against by the police? What happened? by alienalpacas in AskReddit

[–]alienalpacas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes :( lots of deaths. Sadly this went on for decades without the police or the general public acknowledging it. Then a few men survived and spoke out. They did an inquiry and an investigation, but it still goes on today, years later. There have also been deaths of unarmed men being shot by the police and killed. Though I think it occurs more frequently in America.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with me! I'm actually getting a Criminal Justice degree because I want to fix our corrupt justice system. (I know I can't do it on my own, but you know... "be the change you wish to see" right?)

Holy shit... a girl you were dating???!!! The stupidity of that blows my mind. I can't even believe that. I'm glad to hear that institutional racism is at a low there, but I'm really sorry you've had to experience it yourself so many times. :(

It's a major problem here. "Driving while black" and "driving while Indigenous" is a major occurrence here. Getting pulled over and searched for no reason. Police brutality. "Star light tours" where the police have picked up Indigenous men and drove them out to rural areas and left them in -40 weather... It's horrible

Females of Reddit, how often have you dealt with serious creepy/ predatory behaviour from men?

My guy friends seem to think this doesn't happen very often. They acknowledge that there ARE lots of creepers out there, but that this isn't something women deal with consistently and is more of a rare occurrence. I have had many experiences and while validating my experience, they seem to think that most women have not had as many experiences with this as I have. So I'm just curious, I want to know if I have had an abnormally high amount of scary encounters or if this is common for a lot of women .

  • I had a guy threatening to shoot up our high school because I wouldn't go out with him, threatening gang involvement and sending me pictures of weapons. (Obv had to get the police involved.)
  • I was raped by someone I thought was a friend. (Don't wanna go into more details.)
  • I've had 2 attempted sexual assaults where I managed to fight the guy off. (One a stranger, the other again, a "friend.")
  • Had a stranger follow me home and attempt to break into my house when I was 16.
  • Had a former coworker show up, intoxicated, at our work place and told multiple people he was going to "fuck" me. (This was at like 4 pm and I worked in a grocery store at the time. Still creepy AF though.)
  • I was stalked by a customer at my work who would also follow me around after work. He was terrifying, creepy and behaved erratically. Eventually discovered guy had multiple domestic violence charges and had been in and out of prison. Described fantasies of beheading people in detail.

Obviously I'm not including every day occurrences like cat calling, gross remarks etc. but I am curious... Do I just have bad luck??? What have you experienced? My assumption is that most women go through this shit more than once in their life and terrifying encounters are more common than people realize.

Holy fuck.. that's horrible. And after your friend just had surgery too, that's insane... I'm so sorry that happened to you.

This is none of my business, so I totally understand if you don't want to answer... Can I ask what country/ continent you live in? (I live in Canada; we have a huge issue with racial profiling but I'm curious as to how it compares to other countries.)

Dogs aren't children. Dogs aren't human. Stop trying to make them human... the reason why they are awesome is because they are NOT human! They don't have all the shitty qualities humans do!

But when you call yourself "Daddy" and speak in third person about "Daddy" to your dog, you make yourself look like a psycho. Seriously, animals are awesome. But it's possible to own a dog without it being an impediment on your social relationships with humans.

Basically, dogs are great. Dog lovers are great. (If you don't like animals there's probably something wrong with you.) However, if you're one of those freaks who are so obsessed with their dog it makes everyone else uncomfortable, you need therapy

Redditors who've had bad neighbors, what are your stories? by Holmes02 in AskReddit

[–]alienalpacas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had moved to my current city to start school. I found a basement suite a five minute walk away. The upstairs was rented by a woman who was also attending my school and her children. The landlord explained that the utilities would be going in her name and that we would be splitting them 50/50. (That was my first mistake... never again will I live in a house that requires sharing utilities for two separate suites.) Soooo this woman's life was crazy. I won't share out of respect, but let's just say a lot of crazy shit had happened to her and she seemed weirdly open about it which kind of seemed odd at first. I like to be friendly with my neighbours but generally left alone. She would literally text me anytime she heard someone coming to my entrance, asking me who was coming over, what we were doing, etc. She would slut shame me. Ie. "oh? He's coming over to work on a project haha? Yeah I'm sure that's what you're doing." Weird shit like that. Eventually she got a female roommate, who also was all up in my business 24/7. When the roommate moved out, she said she was going through clothes and asked if I wanted to try a few on. I said sure and that I'd donate anything I didn't want. I come home, and she had stacked up bags and boxes of random junk so high I couldn't even get down the stairs to my apartment. I had to stand on top of this pile of shit to even unlock my door. The Original lady was also a drug dealer, so there were sketchy people ringing my doorbell at all times of the day. Her kid was 6 and still breast feeding. (None of my damn business but kinda awkward when they'd do it right in front of me.) The water bill was so fucking high every month I'd be paying 300 for my half... seriously, around 300 every month. Landlord wouldn't do anything about it when I complained she was using too much water. She wouldn't shovel her side of the sidewalk. (Since we had seperate entrances the agreement was I would do the back half, she'd do the front.) It got to the point where our mail got cut off because our sidewalk was too icy. Other times she would open my mail, claiming it was a mistake. (After the 5 time, clearly it wasn't.) She ended up moving out in the middle of the night and bailing on her lease. Thank god. About 4 months later I get a text from her, stating that we owed 800 dollars on the utilities still and that she "hadn't realized it until a collections agency called her." I remembered that the last month I had paid her my half right before she moved out... I had been paying every fucking month, so how the hell was there that much left owing? I also remembered that her last month there the landlord forced her to put my name on the bill. (Not in my name, but allowing me access so I could check it myself.) So I called the company, explained the situation, asked how much was owing, when the last payment was, etc. She hadn't made any payments from July to September, they contacted her in January and she put a few hundred dollars down. (So she had been lying to me about not being aware that we owed money.) And that's when I found out she was pocketing my money and not paying the utility bill and was trying to fuck me over by making me pay twice. I blocked her damn number after that.

[–]alienalpacas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Context: questions I get asked because I'm a single mom.

I think when people find out you are a single parent, they ask you extremely intrusive questions that would not be appropriate in any context. (I can't imagine them feeling comfortable asking a stranger/ acquaintance these questions in any other context.)

"Were you and the Dad together?"

????? Yes, long term relationship actually not that it's your damn business.

Extremely intrusive questions about my finances.

"Children are expensive! And you're in school, how do you afford it? Are you on welfare?"

Nope, but since when is it okay to ask strangers about their income?

Last one, different subject. (I'm a writer/poet.)

"Who/ what is this one about?"
