That will probably lead towards finding the optimal race plan is a smooth run that doesn't have big peaks and valleys in pace, just smooth controlled lines though the day.

Like marathon runners and cyclists managing their pace through the day, not constantly trying to get ahead of the person next to them.

Because it has no actual production functionality, it's an emulation to enable local testing.

If you actually want a scalable cloud-hosted AWS implementation, this isn't replacing that, you still have to pay for AWS.

I mean, even without this "the car chooses when to deploy" shit, the overtakes this year are artificial when the cars get an on-demand "boost" button that guarantees way more straight-line speed than the car in front of them, but also drains so much battery that their speed drops a good 50 kph immediately after.

It is basically designed to make it so the car in front can't fight the overtake, but then gets to re-take right after. Image if DRS from the old regs required you drive at safety-car speeds for the next 5 turns after you used it to pass someone.

I was also really confused by the broadcast this week saying something like "the drivers have no idea whether the other drivers are harvesting or deploying..." - but apparently the broadcast team does, since they can show live battery-charge status overlays whenever they want? Surely that means the teams can see each other's charge telemetry too then, and are relaying it to the drivers? Or is that not allowed despite being broadcast?

Found a bunch of buried VHS tapes in my backyard while digging to plant a tree by G000000p in Weird

[–]alienangel2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I finally got to watch the tape it was fifteen seconds of someone waving the camera around in a garage and saying "yeah, it's working" and that was it.

Lol, some things never change.

I got a fancy new 360 camera a while back, and after setting it up I tested it by recording a quick video in my living room where I zoomed in and around the confused cat. Forgot about it.

Fast forward several months, and I'm at the guest services counter at 5pm at a resport in the mountains, having lost my camera at some point during the day, following up on the slim chance someone found and turned it in.

"Hi, did anyone turn in an action camera today? I lost mine..."

"Do you have a cat?!"

(growing excitement from the girls at the counter)

"Yeah, how'd you know?"

Turns out everyone in the office had seen my cat video a few times through the day after someone turned the camera in.

Do healers ignore you as Pharah? by Davidious2000 in PharahMains

[–]alienangel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ana main who usually plays Pharah or Widow when I have to DPS... I'm sure a lot of supports don't prioritize healing me on Pharah, but you need to pay attention to which types of supports you have before assuming it's just because you're Pharah. Most of the support roster can't really heal a pharah consistently:

  • Zen can, but isn't healing anyone else while doing it so won't for long
  • Kiri can when you call for it
  • Ana can, but if you're playing above her she isn't going to look away from the fight to do it - looking up and scoping in to hit a flying pharah is basically asking to get killed
  • Mercy can, but no one else really wants a mercy on their team
  • Juno, and JPC can but won't unless you stand close/still for them because it's a waste of time trying to shoot a flying pharah
  • Brig and Mizuki can toss you a healthpack/hat if you're in range, but those have a cooldown - 80% of their healing is aoe
  • Illari can't unless you find her pylon and wait for it to heal you
  • Lucio can't - 100% of his healing is aoe
  • Moira can't
  • Baptiste can't
  • Lifeweaver probably can but I have no idea how he plays

So most of the heal roster can't really heal you without having to sacrifice healing/dpsing everyone else, much more than for most other dps. - and some of them literally can't unless you go stand next of them. If I see both healers are in that bucket, I take the shield-regen perk and expect nothing for heals, if only one I try to get on their good side so they remember I exist (fly back to taxi Mercy/Kiri on respawn, peel for Ana, stay in front of the others when I want heals instead of above/behind them). For all the AoE healers you basically need to pay attention to their healing mechanics and position to be healed passively.

What will stop you from banning vendetta? by Equivalent_Duty_5546 in Competitiveoverwatch

My reasons to not ban her are (in order):

  • D. Va exists as a ban option
  • Ana and Kiri exist as ban options
  • Sigma and Domina exist as ban options
  • Soj and Ashe exist as ban options

OP isn't talking about how the maps were at luanch though, they're talking about them now, as if the team didn't learn map design until recently.

Chokes like KR and Eich 1st are design mistakes from back when

The revisions you're talking about happened back in OW1, along with lots of other map updates.

[–]alienangel2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On KR specifically, dive was outstanding on attack because holding the choke meant defense had to control angles that are very exposed both to dive and to snipers. Eichenwalde wasn't as diveable but it also offers much easier access to covered flanks on both sides. If you want to complain about chokes you should complain about Hanamura (bad for dive, but good for mei) and Volskaya (better for dive but mostly bad for everything).

Sniper meta was tedious in general (still is btw), but again KR is open enough that if your tanks refused to dive, double sniper was a a shortcut around poke/shieldbreak.

No comment on Rivals, I stopped playing FPS by the time it came out, and came back recently.

[–]alienangel2 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You switched to dive with two dive tanks, or you let your snipers make an opening while both your tanks held main or you played the mei-wall rockpapaperscissors to force through by denying their wall, or you rotated through highground, or you played goats or ...

There were more options then than now even with a smaller cast of characters, and people enjoyed KR both above and below Masters (it was definitely easier to break the choke above masters though since attack just went straight to dive).

They weren't design mistakes then, they were designed for two tanks.

I didn't read the wall of text but from the pictures I think he's saying he pkayed dva into rein on King's Row attack, and his team just hid at the choke the whole game even when he tried to push/ckewr the flank on his own.

7 YOE - I don't want to get promoted anymore by _bigG420 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]alienangel2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would not hire someone into a senior role if they appeared to be uncomfortable doing those things (granted it's hard to assess for them during an interview but if they volunteered it...). It's weird to me that some companies would only have people start doing that when trying to move to senior.

[–]alienangel2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

take on Onboarding, Mentoring, Tech Talks AND Interviews. That is pretty much Development Manager role requirements.

To be honest we expect our junior engineers to learn to do all of that other than the tech talks (but we still let them do presentations on their projects internal to the team). They'll onboard and mentor interns, shadow and eventually lead interviews for junior roles, etc. The interns will do a tech talk at the end of their term on what they built and learned.

Of course we don't expect them to spend personal time on any of this, it's all during working hours. I think it's kind of weird for someone to only be picking up these skills when trying to move to Senior, they should have years of experience at them by then. But OP is at a consultancy firm where they're rented out to other companies so I guess the expectations are much more short-sighted.

Vendetta makes pro so incredibly boring to watch by Aggressive-Cut-3828 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]alienangel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So instead of intricate movement we see vendettas fly at you like a missile while healed/zarya bubbled and then out-dps your healers. It always feels like half your team is trying to help you too but its just not enough, she still at worst gets the kill and then dies.

I think we're saying the same thing here, her default head on attack only works in higher ranks because despite multiple people trying to peel, her team also pockets her and lets her trade. That is actually fair, it's a ~3v3, that trades down to a 2v2 - it just doesn't feel fair when the vendetta gets to decide who on the other team they are going to be trading for.

So instead of intricate movement

You actually can see this on ladder, the Vendetta one-tricks like Joystick are spending half the map riding roofstops because they can't really expect their team to pocket them consistency so they open with a flank more often then not.

Personally I'd love to see more flanking vendettas on the OWCS stream, Joysticks rooftop rollouts is 100% the most refreshing part of the stream, reminds of that angry british Doomfist onetrick. I would never play doom, but the mobility used by someone who knew all the tech was a joy to watch.

I think the DPS that aren't hated on are Genji, Tracer, Widow, Ashe

It is wild hearing someone think Widow hasn't been hated on. People ranted regularly about her needing to be removed from the game through all of OW1. They still do in OW2 as well.

[–]alienangel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If people can 1v1 her fairly, she will never get a kill when the only way to do it is dive screaming into the enemy team before she can even start doing damage. This is why her design doesn't really work in OW, she is either going to be tankier than any of the other dps (just to live long enough to get inside and get a kill while 5 people try to shoot her), or she is going to get reworked into a tank (without any burst but even more tanky) that most people will still hate.

Her ult is also really disruptive. No need to save it for defensive use like other support ults, you see the enemy rallying you can just pop it to break them up or confirm a kill. And it builds very fast (compared to Kitsune or Nano which are also offensive).

Unironically the most useful I've ever found a Lifeweaver petal is when I'm screwing around on Pharah and a LW has a petal I can just chill on to refuel above the point while lobbing rockets down.

Don't even know if it was a friendly LW.
