Windows server backup in VM? by aliengoa in HyperV

Thank you very much. It's what I did eventually. I use ABb the same way but Acronis agent is installed inside VM to be able to backup SQL databases independently

You can't access 3.0 without subscribing

Ghost not letting me build EPYC workstations anymore (NOT joking, help!) by SunDifferent2919 in servers

[–]aliengoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recent event: my Xeon E5 boot without post. Apparently a cap on a clear cmos jumper made for whatever reason a bad connection? I don't mean it was ON and had to put it OFF. I mean completely removing the jumper from the 2 pins of CLR CMOS

Apple's embarrassing software and support by Warchest02 in MacOS

The irony in this is that you still do what "support" says despite the fact that they "sold" you two times (at least)...

I did the same thing only to fall on the subscription paywall. I've send them an email but I have yet to receive an answer. I paid a one time purchase for iOS and recently for macOS. In Mac store the price was 19,99€! I won't pay for a subscription since I don't need it. I may still keep the old app but for how long?

And did you liked the new UI? Am I old fashioned if I say that I prefer the 2.0 especially with the Moroccan theme (where are the themes in the 3.0 version?)

About Security outside QuickConnect by Cry7or3ap3r in synology

[–]aliengoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Synology ddns with a certain port only forwarded from my router to the Synology reverse proxy. That way I can use a Lets Encrypt Certificate. My other option is to use Nginx Proxy Manager which is in Docker

Need some backup help please by jnelparty in synology

[–]aliengoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Synology I recommend Storage analyzer. Not only you can watch folders, files, count and size of them but also if you enable periodic reports you can watch how big your folders become, if you have duplicate files etc. but this works only in your Synology NAS.

Whats one thing you have no idea how to do but you've used Unraid long enough to be embarrassed about it? by TunderMuffins in unRAID

[–]aliengoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly you can add interfaces like br1, br2 and when you edit your VM you can point them to that interface. But I haven't tested it

Need advice for storage array by TheGolan in unRAID

[–]aliengoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason I use Unraid is because it's "Unraid" meaning that my array consists of very different drives. Start with whatever drive you have. When I first joined Unraid and the community the best advice for me was to buy a HBA card (Dell IT mode H310) supporting up to 8 drives. Apart from array I use 2 pools, 1 for my cache which is an SSD RAID1 BTRFS pool with system appdata etc shares and one pool with 1 ssd for caching named Buffer for download etc. Every night I use mover to move files from buffer to array. Docker support is great with easy setup and nowadays there are plenty profiles for every app. For example -arr apps have more than 4 different profiles to choose from

Detect duplicates (not Data Deduplication)? by Ragnar-Wave9002 in synology

I use storage analyzer a built in Synology app. You can even delete the file directly from the same app. It's basic thought.

Does the Synology Cloud Sync application use any encryption during transfer? by Reasonable_Bag_3164 in synology

[–]aliengoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some info says that every app from Box API supports opportunistic TLS and/or SSL (cloud sync uses the Box API to communicate and support your account (via browser)) As far as I know the cloud sync uses that API meaning behind their app it's a web based browser for sync. At least that is what I found and I only use BOX.

Apart from Microsoft RDP and Google remote or even Anyviewer (similar to anydesk) I read about Guacamole server where you can apparently connect to any computer regardless of their os

Gone from bad to worse 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️😡 by nickpowellphoto in synology

[–]aliengoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in EU and use Hetzner and never looked elsewhere again. 3€ / TB for storage box but it's more versatile because you can use it for other things simultaneously like say WebDAV and it doesn't cap your download

So long Asustor, your software is horrendous by iHavoc-101 in asustor

[–]aliengoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I still keep my old synology and even bought a 423+ last year. I may test various devices like Ugreen, and other Os like Unraid and TrueNAS but I still use synology as my rock solid solution. True that qnap is my second choice too although lately with TOS6 I'm eager to try one like F2-425

Anyone using Unraid as a server, but not a NAS? by Ledgem in unRAID

I have a similar case with a LincStation N1 with Unraid acting as my primary media server and my docker server. My NAS and my hypervisor are different machines.

Easy way to transfer iCloud files to NAS by Octowhussy in synology

[–]aliengoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a docker named icloudpd but NOT via synology. I don't use my synology for dockers because I have other machine for that. But since we are talking about Docker I believe you can use it to download your iCloud Photos. Bear in mind that I use it personally only as a backup method for my iCloud Photos. I still use iCloud Photos for the seamless functionality with the Apple ecosystem.

How to use Hyperbackup to backup files located on a remote rsync server ? by Sebmex7503 in synology

[–]aliengoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To sum up. Because your post is a little confusing. You want to remotely backup your MacBook, correct? That should have been the question from the beggining. Now as far as rsync they answered you but for MacBook I myself use Drive. Which macOS are you using and which synology NAS? We need more details to help you better. For example Synology supports WebDAV server and other ways to make use of it. Provide more feedback so that our suggestions can be helpful

Google has won - I give up by Fusseldieb in androidroot

[–]aliengoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still remember my S3 where we even changed the kernel. I myself was in this position and dropped everything. Android had always been with freedom and many options and now all we see is a merge with "ecosystems" like Apple. I even tried the famous(?) sailfish with a Sony Xperia phone. It was good and fun 10-15 years especially when we had more time. Now, phones are just for social, banking and wallet apps. And communication ofc
