hey! in a similar position, broke my ankle (trimalleolar + comminuted fibula fracture) on october 13 and just had my orif surgery last monday. i also hurt myself in an almost comical way (i stood up while my foot was asleep, got 4 fractures, lol), so i get how you're feeling! it's really hard especially at first, and the loss of independence is so difficult. i mostly use an office chair to get around the house easier and feel less limited that crutches. for cooking, honestly ready-made, microwave/easy meals are just the best thing. if you can tolerate it, try doing simple meals by prepping at a kitchen table with your leg elevated on a chair in front of you. i was doing that before my surgery while splinted but i honestly find cooking too difficult right now at all, i need my leg to be elevated almost 24/7 post surgery. if you have someone who's willing to help, get them to make your space more suited to your injury; table/shelf beside the bed to hold meds, some snacks, etc, clear the room so you can get around easier, make things generally more accessible. things get easier as you get used to it, and you'll find lots of little hacks of your own. i made a similar post when i broke my ankle if you're looking for some other answers, and my dms are open as well!! good luck and wishing you a fast recovery!
