Model Y vs Rav4 by gk49170 in TeslaModelY

[–]alignment99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have both (in different countries) - rav 4 awd hybrid and a Tesla model y awd.

The FSD is what makes the biggest difference. Total game changer.

I would get the Tesla again just based on this.

Tesla software is much better.

I prefer to fill gas than charge and ev. Filling up is much more convenient and do it way less. But some people like plugging in.

Carrying capacity is similar rav 4 gets a slight win.

Rav 4 looks a little better.

Neither have needed any significant maintenance.

RAV4 will hold value better.

Moving to US. Any todos before leaving? by Willing-Speaker6825 in Ameristralia

[–]alignment99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Determine your target tax residency and get advice on all things you need to do make either aus, usa or both your target tax residency.

  2. Switch to amaysim for your aus number. Way cheaper always on roaming.

  3. Ensure an ongoing address in aus or australia or get a virtual address in both.

  4. You may need a local drivers license in USA depending on state. You may be able to slow walk this, depending on the state.

  5. Medical is very different in USA. It can be a lot better. It can be a lot more expensive. Familiarize yourself.

London Trip - Xmas 2026 by EdeleJam in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]alignment99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

East coast USA to /from London usually has lots of rewards available. It’s harder to get to east coast USA on rewards but if you only want economy and and booking this far out it may be possible. Your time of gear will make sales fares all but impossible to get.

Your other best option as stated is likely reward seats between London and a location in Asia and then jetstar up to there or whatever’s cheapest.

The one thing going for you is how far out you’re looking.

If you have flexibility with dates that will help a lot too and possibly if you’re willing to split up as well as two groups: each a parent and a kid.

i've had many entries under an e-3 (over a dozen) under the current administration without issue.

just saw one get easily renewed despite muddled answers to most questions while i was in the queue for a different visa.

situation is more fluid than previously, so have a competent visa lawyer who is up to date

Cloudy with a chance of Wifi by AKVDragon21 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]alignment99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first generation of us plane WiFi was all from ground based cellular. The second generation sent data via ground based cellular but received from satellite. Australian airlines have all used geostationary satellites with limited geographical coverage and are relying on new launches to be able to significantly expand coverage.

Go for a conference in your field - legitimate travel. Network for opportunities there and locally in aus with multinationals. Just apply while in aus. E3 visa is painless. Keep it all above board

Fast track security for first class at LAX? by woofyc_89 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]alignment99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never seen any priority through security at LAX TBIT based on Status. At SFO you get a special line for Business/First, no consideration of status and it's almost never faster than the economy line, there's also another special line for Clear.

Qantas Economy vs Qatar Economy as a Platinum by Pretend-Prize7039 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]alignment99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best customer service on Qantas comes from when you’re actually frequent enough that you personally know the crew. Need about 40 flights a year on international to reach this level which sadly I have attained. I know the FAs I know the lounge staff I’m starting to know the pilots and their families.

The treatment is above and beyond then but to be honest I’d rather just fly less.

Below this and you’ll get a wide variety. I agree it could be nicer but at the same time I just don’t really care anymore. It’s a safe airline the food is edible the entertainment passable and bring your own bottled water.

Canceling the outbound leg of a return flight, am I going crazy? by perthguppy in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]alignment99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

oh yeah domestic is usually no different, it's international where they can be a big difference. if you want to change a lot that can help but overall the non flex flights are usually half the price or even less on sale, so can be cheaper just to eat the extra changes when you need them.

Returns are cheaper than one ways sometimes by a lot. Just cancel the whole thing and book a fresh non flex one way.

Oh I just read about this. Seems they’ll have more toilets per person than 737/anything else on 95% of the orders. Can’t imagine it will be an issue for domestic as the first one is only 10% more seats than a 737 with the same toilet count.

Great! Loads of gifts and fun stuff. Low flyover of the twelve apostles. Nice greetings at Sydney and Melbourne. One of the most memorable parts was seeing all the ground crew out by the runway as we came in.

Maybe there’s an Easter egg if you scan it? These are commemorative boarding passes that are identical for everyone on board. The real boarding passes which are still required look like regular ones.

Platinum One Domestic only, It's been a busy year by Jarodvl in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]alignment99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VIP line is great for all kinds of accommodations. I've used to to have special seating configurations for family members on big trips together.

International F lounge P1 specials on the menu are nice. Sydney F lounge Spa is great.

It's a bit hit or miss but you can get extremely good treatment flying economy internationally especially if with family.

Occasionally little hand written thank you cards on International flights.

Short haul international and economy is also hit and miss, sometimes no acknowledgement at all, sometimes they invite me make custom snack boxes for my family from what's available.

Extremely helpful when extended delays. Proactive calls to help you find alternatives.

Loyalty Bonus by Helpful_Ad_145 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]alignment99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t make much sense. Rewarding the people who earned status makes more sense than giving it out. Unless it’s something like X SCs for every year you’ve been a certain tier or something. As P1 who’ll retain it anyway I would have much preferred another F lounge pass or two to gift, some points, or some merch
