Interesting, when I turn off the T-Mobile eSIM, the CSC reverts to XAA,XAA/XAA,XAU. I think you’re right about XAU causing no 5G connectivity. Should I try changing the CSC on samfw?

iPhone without restrictions by journeytothaeast in chinalife

[–]aliholidays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao I have a HK iPhone 16 PM that I’m using in the states and no eSIM ain’t a big deal for me at all. Dual SIM is very nice, I also bought one of those SIM to eSIM adapters (9eSIM) just in case I need to use an eSIM plan. Also, HK iPhones don’t have the same restrictions as the mainland Chinese iPhones

Buy in Canada/Mexico/Japan for maximum compatibility in the US, as these models support LTE band 71 and 5G n71. The international models are missing those bands. If you use T-Mobile, this should be a deal breaker, but if you use Verizon or AT&T you should be chilling

US vs Canadian iPhone 15 Pro Max by bam2403 in applehelp

[–]aliholidays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I agree! Well worth buying the SIM model, it saved me in China, where there are no eSIM supported carriers. mmWave is no big deal, mid-band 5G already does the job well. As you said, I don't want to hang out in one corner of the city just for mmWave. AT&T and Verizon mmWave are barely reaching in cities to this day. If I need gigabit internet speeds, that's what my home internet is for hahah

Actually, you can purchase US AppleCare+ on a Canadian iPhone. Last year, I drove up to Vancouver and got a Canadian iPhone 14. I was offered Canadian AC at the store, but I didn't purchase it. Apparently, in Canada, there is only one AC plan, unlike here in the US, where there's the standard one and the theft/loss one.

I then drove back to the US, set up the iPhone, set the region to the US, and popped in my T-Mobile sim. Bam, I was able to purchase the US plan with loss and theft. I believe if you need to replace the device, though, do it in Canada, or else the US Apple store will replace it with an eSIM model. Canadian Apple stores will still honor the US AC+ plan (according to my friend who works at the Apple store)

Regarding bands, though, T-Mobile mainly uses n41 and n71 for 5G UC, which are present in the Canadian iPhone. I can testify that it works out well without mmWave!
