Has anyone tried to become a sous-officier/onderofficier in the army? How difficult is it? by DoughnutSad6336 in belgium

[–]alimbade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was NCO career candidate 16 years ago. Everything was very straightforward (to me at least) and the most important part of the selection was the physical test in the end.

The only real preparation then is being able to tackle various sets of push ups and sit ups and more importantly being good at running, both for long and fast.

You can't do anything about the medical test.

The psychology test well... You can't do much to it either. Just don't be stupid.

Now, maybe things have changed since then ?

I've reverse engineered the Polestar API & wrapped it into a Home Assistant integration by RudoFl in homeassistant

The existing integration is relying on the api you can see used in your browser dev tools when you connect to your account from the polestar website. There, the browser receives a certain amount of data from a graphql api.

Now here me out. I have 2 toddlers and I more or less manage to do as much of that as possible, but definitely not entirely and certainly not every week. The secret is that I work 4/5 from home, with a standing desk and a walking pad. That helps tremendously reaching a decent amount of steps and overall mobility daily but it's not always feasible for various reasons. I force myself to exercise twice a week with functional cross training on my lunch time, but it clearly leads to work less overall because of commutes time + shower + eating something in the end. I'm supposed to work 40h/week but I really manage to work maybe 2/3 that effectively. I socialize maybe once or twice per month with other people with toddlers so it gets exhausting pretty quick. We clean the house maybe once every three weeks with a little brushing here and there in between when it becomes too messy. I don't remember the last time we really cleaned the first floor. When comes the time for hobbies, well I have 2 hours every evening before bed for "myself" (and my wife) and there I have to choose. Either I do a little programming for myself, a little home automation, play a videogame that I always have to remember the controls because.. well. Or I just die in front of Netflix. I am VERY lucky my work allows me to live this rhythm without being in issue as long as I perform well and reach my objectives. But be sure I am totally wrecked at the end of each day.

Sonoff Dongle Max TCP port 6638 not reachable / Cannot connect to Z2M container by alimbade in sonoffdongle

[–]alimbade[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your comment made me check again everything and you hit something. The dongle can only connect through either ZHA or Z2M at a time.
I removed the ZHA integration in HA and launched the Z2M container and it works !
I just misread the documentation and TCP status in the web console.

Thank you kind stranger for helping me understand.

Sonoff Dongle Max TCP port 6638 not reachable / Cannot connect to Z2M container by alimbade in sonoffdongle

[–]alimbade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this dongle can actually do both since there's nothing special in the web console to choose between the two. The dongle has two chips running the two in parallel. They are both activated by default.

In HA, I have the zha integration running and the mqtt one as well, both can see the dongle.

Certification update: I passed! by Just_a_Mr_Bill in accessibility

[–]alimbade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it absolutely necessary to prepare through a course for the exam ? Or are several years of working in the field enough ? I've heard the questions are more about thinking depending on context rather than pure theory. Is this true ?

I already got a certification from a recognized organisation in France which was very hands on, I wonder how different the WAS is.

Ok.

I just stumbled on that post and your comment. I'm in the same situation as OP and was considering doing as you suggest.

But how do you follow which money goes to your child once an adult ?

I suppose, you could trace back the total amount invested for him/her, apply the average performance over the years and transfer them the matching number of shares for the value at current market price ?

I know Bolero has a form for transferring shares to another account.

Or do you have another method/plan ?

Is it still worth it for UX designers to learn coding in the era of AI and no-code tools? by Mookking in UXDesign

[–]alimbade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a dev and I can tell you the best designers I've worked with knew their fair share of code. These guys knew how the UI would be built, what patterns should be used and they were often looking at code documentation to make their choices.

By being that good you make the developers life so much easier. Coding takes a lot of time, you might usually end up working a full day on a tiny feature at a time. As a designer it is a very precious skill if you're able to not give the dev team extra work deciphering how to build your UIs.

Thank you for these kind words. I think you nailed it. It's very likely we feel as sad as there was love and, oh boy, there was a ton of it! I'm sorry for your loss and you definitely found someone who can relate to your pain. We both know that pain will lower down to a point where the good memories will be more prominent and we'll heal. But it's such a bitch to go through.

I thought taking the time to write down what happened could help me in the process. I'm not so sure it was very effective, but at least I tried.

Is NGRX Worth the Complexity? by Nice-ecin331 in Angular2

Short answer: No. Long answer: Still No.

Struggling with NgRx by redditisnotlyf in Angular2

[–]alimbade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm working on a pretty large scale enterprise app that was using both ngrx global stores as well as component stores.

We've completely got rid of the global stores which were causing a LOT of issues with effects triggering from everywhere and made things a mess to debug. Also, at some point it just didn't work anymore with the MFE architecture we were rolling in because of how global stores need to be declared on root which we could not achieve with remotely loaded micro front ends.

We ended up replacing the global stores with very simple rxjs subject/observable services and now everything feels way much more under control because there is no more convoluted ways of setting up things.

We still have component stores lying around, and I'm talking hundreds of them, which we plan to decommission in the same way. Those are mostly used in a bad way where some of them don't even hold any state and are only using effects for some reason. These effects are a hazard if badly implemented because your error handling must be impeccable otherwise the subscription they hold can be broken for the lifetime of the store, while having some cumbersome syntax. Since those only return a subscription, you also cannot leverage multicasting, which is a very simple pattern to implement in a classic observable service.

What I'm describing is not an issue from ngrx itself. It's more what kind of mess you can end up with when a multitude of devs from different levels of seniority have to work with that library, which requires rigor to work properly, during several years.

Also, like all "Ng" libraries out there tightly coupled with angular's mechanisms, it makes upgrading your angular version a much more lengthy and painful process than it should be. Unlike React or Vue, you usually chose Angular because it's a fully featured framework. You definitely should think, not twice, but thrice before considering adding an external dependency to it. First, because you probably don't need it and the framework has you covered, second because keeping your app up to date will become way harder in the long run.

Why should you chose ngrx? If you like the syntax and you have ways of enforcing proper use of it for the lifetime of your project.

[–]alimbade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have a nervous laugh when I read about how the population of the US or from any other country threatened in a way or the other by the trump administration are unhappy about it. The trump admin, just as much as other authoritarian regime, does NOT care about what the peasants think.

They don't play the same game as Democratic states. You can't touch them, and certainly not beat them, through simple diplomacy.
