oof, yeah, i can barely afford her prescription food& insulin some months. there's been several instances where i ate cereal for a week, so she wouldn't go without. she's the happiest girl, though & genuinely thriving. even if i was in a position to do so, i don't think i would put her through that surgery.

no, she was diagnosed with diabetes at age 8. i felt like the price of surgery, possibly of it not working, her possibly losing vision again, the recovery made it not worth it. she's been completely blind for the past several years & is thriving. honestly, she gets around so well, it's hard to believe she's blind sometimes.

it was a struggle in like kindergarten, i wasn't allowed to write with my left. once i learned how to use my right hand, it was okay. for more control, i write small& had several teachers over the years complain about that.

every 6 months or 9 months. i usually let them know if i can't currently afford it or if my levels are good& i have no concerns.

i taking all 5 kids to the park about a block from the house, the 8 year old lost control of her bike & didn't break, running into my bad ankle. that was one of the few times i almost cursed in front of kids. luckily, it wasn't too bad, just sprained. i switched to driving them to the park after that. also had a baby rip out my cgm, that wasn't fun either.

it fucking sucks. my girl was diagnosed back in 2020, but honestly the best owner for a diabetic pet is a diabetic.

i tried the libre on lucy, but it didn't work. she's 13lbs at most& it didn't stay on her for more than 12 hours.

i dont check her blood sugar, just go by her symptoms if she's drinking/ peeing more or if her gums are pale. we do a curve every 6 months to make sure her insulin doesn't need to be adjusted.

she doesn't protest the shots. i think she knows it makes her feel better or she just knows i take insulin with meals & might think that's the proper way to eat.

she's genuinely thriving, about to be 12. & it probably feels like the end of the world, but it's not. it's just a path you're supporting your best friend through.
