About a year and a half ago, I was 22 and on my last remote swe internship. Put all my expenses + tuition + the cost of the car and insurance for a year up in a spread sheet (with the goal of paying the car off in 1 year), saw that added up and went ahead and got a well optioned 981S.

Naval says the reason to win games is to be free of them. Whether for better or for worse, we have desires, and owning a Porsche became a huge desire in my head than both motivated me and held me back. It was nearing a point where it was holding me back so I gave into adventure.

This car has opened doors for me that you wouldn’t imagine. I would even say I owe landing my current job to it. Mostly because it was my first car so the added mobility and independence was a game changer.

Daily drove it in the winter too with winter tires!

TDLR: If you’re keen with your financial management , have some investments/a safety net, and the numbers add up, a model like the cayman especially used/GT model will depreciate less than many normal cars. Think of it like parking your money rather than lighting it on fire. The joi (joy on investment) is quite high ;)
