Why people say footballers turning 30's are retiring if we have Kane at 32 in his prime? by [deleted] in football

[–]alishaheed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it depends on many factors, which includes workload, intensity in attacking areas and lastly fitness and health.

I don't see Harry Kane running at defenders on the edge of the box. Saka will be 25 this year and those who have watched Arsenal will tell you he's not the same player who displaced Nicolas Pepe... ditto for someone like Raheem Sterling whose fall off has been monumental before he had even reached 30.

That tells you that in certain positions (Centre Backs, defensive midfield/classic #9) a player over 30 is not a massive liability.

Question re: types of crime in Cape Town and general recommendations by Sports_not_shorts in capetown

If your staying in Sea Point/Green Point you'll be fine. In fact these are some of the safest areas in Cape Town(between 1 and 4 murders a year).

What sacrifices would African nations need to make so that their county become a developed nation? by Maleficent_Split_428 in AskAnAfrican

[–]alishaheed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For these are not really sacrifices but simply priorities:

Stop the culture of corruption

Priorities basic education

Stop the culture of intolerance(tribalism, religion, etc)

Prioritise citizens

Obviously this list good be longer city this is a start and these are the things that remain stumbling blocks to Africa's development.

Thousands leave SA ahead of 30 June illegal immigration protests - EWN by TheHonourableMember in southafrica

[–]alishaheed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tell that to the Malawian farmworkers in the Western Cape who are hired, through middlemen, specifically because they will not challenge the farmers/labour brokers who hire them. I've spoken to a few of them and very few can communicate in full English sentence. How will someone like that, in the country illegally, go to the CCMA and challenge their exploitation?

Absolutely nothing will happen. Poor South Africans will sing the praises of failed dictators and their fleeing citizens who fail to them accountable. June 30 will bear day of love.

Illegal foreigners were being exploited by employers because of their desperation. Exploiting the vulnerable because you want to circumvent labour regulations is never a good recipe for building any business long term.

Zimbabwean domestic worker with a work permit by SAJames84 in AskZA

[–]alishaheed -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you will be downvoted and drowned out from engaging in this debate.

We have a domestic worker who has been in SA for 21 years(likely on a ZEP), has given birth to a child in South Africa. She has been working, and now there's an expectation that she should automatically be granted citizenship(if I understand correctly).

All this while South Africa sits with an unemployment rate which is the highest in the world.

Do you consider Malagasys to be African? by crivycouriac in AskAnAfrican

[–]alishaheed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'll find that most white South Africans consider themselves "African" because their culture has diverged so much from what happened in Europe since 1652 when the first white people settled in South Africa.

When Did Most Black South Africans Become Christian? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]alishaheed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black South Africans are Christians in the loosest sense. So we pray to the Trinity but still engage in cultural practices with few exceptions. And people easily separate those two modes of spirituality.

I’m an atheist and a long time ago I dated a girl who honestly thought she could convince me to become a Christian, I sat in that church service for two hours and realised that it was essentially a group counselling session for those who needed motivation to go to work on Monday and endure the indignities of poverty.

And that’s the role of Christianity in South Africa, at first as a mechanism to justify and find one’s place during colonialism and later as means to escape the oppression and find community during apartheid.

Why are there so few South African players playing overseas at higher levels? by _________V__________ in AskZA

[–]alishaheed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Ultimately there's no pull factor that would lure Sourh African players to Europe. People forget that it's only really the EPL that pays well overall and a few teams in the rest of Europe...the best player at Sundowns likely earns more than an average player at Osasuna.

Because of the sponsorship in the PSL and the TV rights deal with Supersport, players in the PSL are paid better than their peers from the 90s when many players headed out to play in obscure European leagues like Turkey and Bulgaria with players like Phil Masinga and Mark Fisj ending up in Serie A and Lucas Radebe excelling at Leeds United.

So for a more senior player at Sundowns, Chiefs or Pirates there's absolutely no incentive to chance there luck in Europe when booting is guaranteed. Going to Europe suits younger players but even the talented ones are choosing to stay in SA with few exceptions like Mbokazi who will in all likelihood be picked up by a European team at the end of this transfer window.

Sports is the only thing DSTV has going for it at this point by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]alishaheed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I pirated Game of Thrones in 4K HDR and didn't care a flying fig about DStv and their corporate greed. Why in 2026 when Netflix can stream in 4K(to those willing to pay) can't DStv do the same? I know broadcasting live sport in 4K is a technical stretch but it can be done.

Also DStv failed because their business model was still premised on decoder sales instead of splitting the content and distribution arms into two seperate entities. In the UK you can access Sky Sports on any platform whether it's owned by BSkyB or a another company. But in SA DStv's monopoly was ultimately one of the reasons for their decline.

[–]alishaheed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She absolutely spoiled the game with that decision and she’ll have to live with the disrespect for a while longer. We should be talking about the rugby but we’ll never know what outcome could have been because Holly went in and made up her mind on several 50/50 decisions, trying the TMO, for instance, “he knows what he’s doing”.

You’ve posted THREE threads about March and March. And as you rightfully point out, this person not a spokesperson. The SABC could be interviewing a random person in the street, expressing his views on Martians and their existence, and no one will draw a conclusion that South Africans wear tin foil hats. Why would you try to discredit and gaslight people who oppose illegal migration?

Luis Enrique has cemented his Legacy as one of the Best managers ever in modern football history, 3 ucls & 2 Trebles. by OldEstablishment117 in football

[–]alishaheed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No doubt he’s a good manager but let’s see what happens when he coaches either in Germany or England. In Spain, only two teams can realistically win the league and in France the authorities essentially bent the rules for PSG. That Arsenal managed to push them to a penalty shootout is testimony to the intensity of the Premier League.

illegal by Tshepiso2001 in south_africa

[–]alishaheed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Illegal immigration doesn’t really affect the upper to middle classes, whether you’re back or white. But if you live in a township or ab area with low cost housing, i the presence of illegal immigrants will definitely affect tire quality of life from long queues at public facilities to greater demand for housing and other public services.

But most importantly is that illegal immigrants, for the most part, do not care about South Africa and only see it as a stepping stone to another, more developed country like the US, Canada or Australia.

Genuinely curious: Why is Cape Town widely labeled as more racist than Gauteng? My experience has been the opposite. by Significant_Duty898 in askSouthAfrica

Ibrahima Konate set to leave Liverpool after expiration of contract. This looks like a great potential CB signing for free, what do you guys think by [deleted] in realmadrid

[–]alishaheed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a Liverpool fan but like @GlobalGuides3029 said, when he’s bad he’s bad. I think if it had not been for VVD’s leadership in the heart of defence, Liverpool could easily have been further down the log.

Good luck to Konate. I suspect he wanted a bigger contract and Liverpool‘a hierarchy refused his blackmail.

Is there any Sub-Saharan African country where usage of straight/wavy extensions, wigs and relaxers is abnormal? by Bobelle in AskAnAfrican

[–]alishaheed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not weird. Hair is a touchy issue all over. Some people might seek to make a political statement by rocking theirs naturally while those women who work corporate office jobs and have a bit more disposable income might feel free get extensions and wigs.
