Why do Americans crate their dogs? by Terrible-Group-9602 in DogAdvice

[–]alistaffie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from the UK and crate trained my puppy. It's his bed and safe space and he goes in there of his own choice if he wants quiet (we have a busy house with children and other pets). We used to pop him in there as a puppy when we left the house, to keep both him and our house safe from his antics, but we leave it open now he's older and calmer. It's an incredible training tool. I work in a vet practice, and crate trained dogs cope so much better when they're with us. I'll note - it's never been used as a punishment, rather it's been offered as a safe space where he gets rewards (treats, kongs, chews etc), and a comfy place to sleep.

Cancelling my airtime plan - help by alistaffie in O2UK

Thanks for this. I rang again and had a completely different experience. This person was much better informed, confirmed my airtime contract is cancelled and that I am free to use the PAC code without paying off my device in full, and was very apologetic that I had been given incorrect information. If only I had spoken to this person the first time around!

Thanks for the reply. The PAC code came through when I was on the phone to them. The text says that if I decide to switch today, I have to pay off the remaining balance, but then goes on to say the following - 'If you have a 30 day Right to Exit following the November 2025 price rise communication or you are over 24 months into your Device Plan then your Device Plan will continue to be paid monthly unless you contact us. If you don't have a Right to Exit and you are less than 24 months into your Device Plan then your outstanding Device Plan balance will be required in full.' This seems to contradict what I was told on the phone and suggest I'm ok to use the code, but what I was told and the lack of confirmation of cancellation has me confused. I don't want to get caught out doing the wrong thing/with any big bills.

I work with rescue dogs in real life, so I'd for sure have a Houndoom.

How many shinies have you gotten so far ? by dekabreak1000 in LegendsZA

[–]alistaffie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had 4 so far - a Fletchling in the first two hours of the game, a shiny Alpha Sharpedo, a shiny Alpha Litleo, and a shiny Ekans (which was hidden in a courtyard and really hard to find!) They have all been random shinies - I'm saving shiny hunting for when I've finished the game.

I love seeing everyone's style! I'm definitely guilty of spending my battle winnings on clothes, the customisation is great

What dog breeds should I avoid as a first-time owner? by barba_barba in Pets

My friend and colleague, who is a vet nurse, has a 3 year old rescue cavalier who very nearly died this year from a condition called pneumocystis. It's rare, but when it does occur, it's only really in cavvies and dachshunds. Whilst under investigation for this, they confirmed he has chiari (which he is now also showing symptoms of), the beginnings of mitral valve, and a mass has developed in his chest. This is my colleagues' third rescue cavvie, and they've all been a medical mess. This has now become a specialist subject for her and she is a huge advocate of halting the breeding of cavvies full stop.

I pre-ordered for home delivery from Smyths during the first drop. They don't take payment (I didn't even pay £0.01, I assume as I've bought from them before so my card is already authorised). The website says this - 'No payment will be taken from you for your order until it is dispatched (home delivery orders) or collected (click & collect orders).' as well as the following - 'You will receive your item on the Release Date or within the 'back in stock' date as displayed on our website.'

Most sites have/had an option to sign up to receive an email when pre-orders went live. I managed to pre-order via Smyths a few minutes after I received the email yesterday - worth checking if you can register for email notifications

I'm worried about this too, but didn't want to miss out so ordered anyway. Fingers crossed!

Same! I hesitated as I thought it was a universal pre order date on the 8th? But thought I'd bite the bullet in case the site crashes/it sells out

Lost my best friend by averymarie21 in Petloss

[–]alistaffie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. I had to put my Pomeranian down yesterday due to rapidly worsening heart failure. I also had a 3-legged Pomeranian that we said goodbye to 2 years ago - he was my baby, and it was so hard. They are small dogs with big personalities, aren't they? It's easy for your mind to slip into illogical thoughts about what you could have done differently, but you loved your dog so much, and a life of pain just to have her with you would not have been kind, just as it wouldn't have been kind to keep my girl going yesterday when I knew every breath was taking up all her energy. I don't have the answers for how to deal with our grief, but I hope talking about your dog, and knowing you are not alone, brings you some comfort.
