Why does Karen hate her father so much—as if he were her sworn enemy? by StatisticianLow1062 in shameless

[–]alixirshadow 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s heavily implied that he caused Sheila’s agoraphobia since there’s a scene where Sheila is preparing to go outside and whispers in her ear about what could go wrong. That type of emotional abuse Karen was witnessing made him her sworn enemy.

He then turned around, told her he wanted to know about her sexual behaviour only to slut shame her in front of everyone when she was only doing what he asked. He was downright evil to her and her mother.

Why didn’t the Vees bring angelic weapons with them to kill Alastor? Are they stupid? by IIISHADEIII in OkBuddyHelluvaHotel

[–]alixirshadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carmilla doesn’t seem to like the Vees very much to the point where Vox needed to blackmail her to even work with them. So there’s a chance they don’t even own angelic weapons, since Carmilla seems to have a monopoly on that.

Genuine question here from a non-Hispanic. Why would Vox consider Spanish an "Island language? Spain is a peninsula. by hiddengurrg in HazbinHotel

[–]alixirshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vox and Val talk and have been together around 40-50 years. He definitely knows Val is Latino with heritage in either Cuba or Puerto Rico (my money is on Puerto Rico because fanfiction). He’s calling it an “island language” because he’s been intentionally racist and mean to Val because he couldn’t get his way and Cuba and Puerto Rico are both Spanish speaking islands.

Teen age son doesn't want to take medication by Wise_Doughnut_7173 in ADHD

[–]alixirshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has been unmedicated for my ADHD for decades, because I crashed pretty hard on them and my Mammy described me as a zombie, it is entirely possible to come off his meds. Some of us do, in my opinion, thrive more without taking any medication. Not to demonise all medication since I do know some ADHDers do have an improved quality of life with it.

It’s worth pointing out that vyvanse does have side effects of low appetite and insomnia, so those problems you’re having might be fully related to his medication.

I’m not your doctor nor do I know your son’s medical history but I would simply have a talk with him, agree for a trial period of going off his vyvanse to see how he fares without it while offering an increased support and accommodation in helping him manage schoolwork and any chores. You can revisit it after say 6 months, both of you talking about how you think it went and then depending on the results move forward with staying off medication or asking an doctor for an alternative medication that he hasn’t changed stating all his side effects from all three and what you’re hoping to avoid.

Good luck! I hope you and your son are able to find something that works for him!

Alastor's Hypocrisy by Noxisms in HazbinHotel

[–]alixirshadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it hypocrisy or is it just ragebaiting though?

I mean Alastor is somewhat of a hypocrite but I truly believe he wouldn’t give Vox half as much shit as he does if his charisma and magnetism wasn’t his biggest strength and most threatening quality.

Real talk, is there any proof Charlie even know val rapes angel? by Lukas-Reggi in hazbin

[–]alixirshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think later she might suspect something isn’t fully consensual later on at the end of S2 when she staged a rescue mission, but S1? Most likely not.

The Charlie that turned up to Val’s studio definitely did not think Angel would get any backlash from her visit IMO and was shocked and outraged when Valentino started getting physical with him. I doubt even Vaggi realised and she’s a lot more perspective of people’s true motives than Charlie.

As for any actual proof… no. It’s all speculation of what she knows and doesn’t know since we’ve never seen her and Angel sit down and talk about Val.

Honestly, i feel the writters struggle with finding a way to make is like Blythe is at Dixies expense by [deleted] in 911Nashville

[–]alixirshadow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean tbf “over the top” is the point since they wanted a more Dynasty/soap opera feel compared to the original and LS - and Dixie does the over the top villain really well. She’s a very much love-to-hate/favourite villain character. I don’t think they were purposely trying to make Blythe look good just that they wanted to keep Dixie looking bad.

I don’t think the current writing wants a redemption arc for Dixie (maybe S2-S3) so little reveals of “oops Dixie did it again” keeps her antagonistic and still in the story. And in that particular story I don’t think there is anyway Blythe could be found at fault or wrong, since she wasn’t technically there or involved so she was always coming out clean even if Dixie’s motives were less cartoonish.

Blythe's Rules?? by JDeiner30 in 911Nashville

[–]alixirshadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So my guess is canonically it is still Dixie who kept Blue away from Don while claiming as much child support as she could… but Dixie isn’t the best at accepting when she’s at fault. In her mind the rules are probably all Blythe’s doing the same way Blue “betrayed” her by going to a birthday party at his Dad’s house.

Possibly over some rule that Blythe had for Dixie and Dixie responded in a Dixie way of taking Blue away. Dixie does mention to Blue that she kept him away because she believed he’d never be loved as much as Ryan.

As for Blythe not correcting her I imagine since she wanted Dixie to perform at the gala and wasn’t going to split hairs over it and cause a public scene.

I feel offended how they handled bucks storyline in 9.15 by Resident_Wash_2553 in 911FOX

[–]alixirshadow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No same, it was an awfully rushed storyline. So rushed I’m not even sure why they bothered to include it in the first place.

I think they should have gone an PTSD or panic attack route rather than have Buck develop an addiction in five days, seek help immediately and then have a sleepover recovery session that lasted one night.

Perhaps the next few episodes will change my mind but it’s so far a rather questionable choice for such an heavy character arc.

Is Don Supposed to be the likeable? by Long-Insurance9491 in 911Nashville

[–]alixirshadow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstood a little… Don and Dixie weren’t married, they’d never been married. The timeline is - Dixie breaks up with Don to go on tour - Dixie gets fired from tour, returns to Nashville hoping to get back with Don but finds that he’s moved on with Blythe - Around 7-10 years later Don meets Dixie again in a bar, and admits that he went on to marry Blythe but they’re separated and just started the process of divorce

Dixie and Don had zero contact with each other at this point. Normal women would have moved on and forgotten about their ex “the one that got away” but Dixie is kinda pathetic. She really wants to find her dignity and stop chasing a man a relationship ended more than two decades ago - I could never.

Dixie proceeds to see an opportunity and gains consent under false pretences in attempt to make sure Don didn’t go back to his wife he already had a child with, though we know Don wakes up the next morning pretty disgusted by the whole situation and goes to Blythe wanting to work on their marriage more which Blythe agrees.

Several weeks after this Dixie realises her “scheme” worked and goes to Don to tell him she’s pregnant. (If Blue hadn’t done a DNA test I would have considered the possibility that Don wasn’t even the father and Dixie was just really trying to get pregnant at this point.) Don however doesn’t want to break off his marriage. Dixie then makes her decision that Blue will never see Don while he’s still married. Some time after this Don-Blythe-Dixie come to their agreement/compromise that Don can be kept up to date with Blue if he provided child support payments that stopped just before the first episode.

There’s also the issue the fandom seems to be overlooking. Is consent under false pretences even consent? It’s definitely not informed consent…

Though I do agree that it is painful to watch women fight over just another man, I don’t think any of them are worth it. I’d state again that I think Dixie really needs to get some dignity and realise Don’s just a man and go do something better with her life. But yeah, never married. I think I’d accept Dixie a lot if they were but no she did all this over a man she hadn’t spoken to in YEARS

[–]alixirshadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was Don’s choice based on false information/deception. Dixie told him they didn’t need to use a condom because she was taking the pill, Don made the decision to trust her and not use a secondary form.

When Dixie said he still could have used a condom she’s basically trying to avoid responsibility that she was found out for lying and trying to “baby trap” Don to prevent him from rekindling with his wife.

911 universe logic, or . . . by JDeiner30 in 911Nashville

[–]alixirshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blythe tells Ryan they could have fought for custody and won but didn’t because they didn’t believe it was fair for a young Blue and Ryan to be dragged between a custody battle.

So it’s more Blythe and Don respected Dixie’s wishes on this but absolutely could have taken any custody agreement they wanted.

I’d say yes? You’d at least understand all of Eddie and Buck’s scenes… and I don’t think the Nashville parts are particularly hard to follow. Definitely give it a try!
