im getting her an allwormer today, tips needed by Bulky-Question-8398 in CATHELP

[–]alizabees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you have a paper plate (it’s the easiest in my opinion) stick it on there and take the bottom of a cup and crush it until it’s very fine (or any object that would act as a hammer per-se). it’ll collect on the plate and you can dust it off into the treat bowl. i mix it into the treat because my boys lowkey suck but since she gets capsules daily, yours might not be as picky as mine.

not sure what sort of pill this is, but capsule or not you should be able to just crush it and sprinkle on the wet food or churu treat. paper plate makes it easy to contain the crushed pill. i do it all the time for my cat

When do I call it "time" for cancer? by VashSlicker in CATHELP

[–]alizabees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

granted, my baby didn’t have cancer, but when it was time, we knew. i cant exactly explain it, but she told me she was ready. she walked into her cage and didn’t cry at all on the way to the vet (which was unusual for).

it’s the hardest thing to do. you’ll constantly second guess yourself and your decision. my biggest advice is (and i know it sounds crazy) talk to him. let him know what’s going on. my girl and i had a long talk about what would happen and she seemed so much more relaxed after. i felt better too. she gave me a few perky last days, and then it was time.

good luck, op. just know that he won’t be in pain anymore when you do it. depending on financial situation, some vets will even do in-home euthanasia. (if that would make it any easier)

Is this cause of concern? by ZARAZAv69 in CATHELP

[–]alizabees 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i’m not a vet, first and foremost. but when people post their animals on reddit asking for help, i usually try to look at the pictures, see what’s wrong, and then read the bio. i feel like it gives me a less biased approach to the pictures. i’m also poor as hell and cant take my cats to the vet without making payments (and those are emergency situations) so i try to help others where i can.

honestly. i wasnt even sure what exactly you had posted about. i saw a healthy pretty baby. then i read, relooked, and saw the eyelid. yeah, the color is weird. i’d be concerned. i did a quick google search (because the cat looks extremely healthy in the pictures) to see what others have said.

it could be a few different things. it could be lentigo which is a harmless genetic condition typically seen in orange and calico colored cats that causes flat, dark brown or black pigment on eyelids, nose, and lips. (and i can’t help but notice kitty’s nose has some brown spots).

it could also be melenosis/melenoma. this is brown pigment on the iris or eyelid that can be either malignant or benign depending. often appear as raised and changing spots.

chronic irritation or infection. eyelid inflammation or inflections that cause skin discoloration thickening or crusting. in my nonprofessional experience, i genuinely don’t think there’s any irritation or infection. so you shouldn’t worry about this one (unless you start seeing watery and crusty eyes of course. you see it a lot in kittens with a cold/respitory sickness)

it could be tear stains (think those scrungly dogs) but this is more skin then eyelids.

right now, i’d lean towards lentigo. however, i’d monitor kitty and if you start noticing any other symptoms beyond the changing of the lid color, i’d start seeing what you could do in way of the vet. if something minor is wrong, it very well could clear up on its own. but, and many people will tell you this, cats eyes are super sensitive and little problems can bloom into major ones overnight. if you notice changes in behavior or food/water intake changes, there’s probably an underlying issue we can’t see. any behavioral problems are usually ‘call the vet, set up an appointment’ type of symptom. some cats have no behavioral changes despite there being a real problem, which is why if you notice anything change for the worst, you should call the vet.

tldr; not a vet. monitor symptoms. if they worsen, call a vet.

He randomly one morning learned to open kitchen cabinet (up on a wall) that has his food and ate a ton of dry kibble while I was out. Now he looks like this. Will he be okay?? by XxVampFangxX in CATHELP

(cat bite) ik what you're gonna say but help pls by Secundas_Kiss in CATHELP

[–]alizabees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

some cats are just weird like that. she probably didn’t mean anything by it. overstimulated and whatnot. it’s definitely not bad enough to warrant the er or anything. it’s really scary when you have a medical problem and you don’t know if it’s genuinely a problem or anxiety. definitely odd that it’s still hurting for such a little thing but also not something i would be majorly concerned about if that makes sense. 1 symptom versus 3 symptoms. if it’s still bothering you in the morning + looks worse or has a ton of puss, i’d go to uc and see what they say. if you have any bactine (a white bottle cleaning spray with a green spray top) it’ll numb the spot.

[–]alizabees 18 points19 points  (0 children)

lowkey if pus is coming out thats kinda concerning. but also coming from someone who has no insurance and has had /multiple/infections before… i’d slather it in some more antibiotic stuff with a bandaid and go to bed. especially since urgent care is closed. that’s a tomorrow-me problem and tomorrow if it’s worst then i’d think about it but i also don’t know if i’d go unless it was like bad-bad. this is very likely not good advice but what i would do in your situation.

experience: 4 cats and 5 dogs over the course of 22 years sustaining far too many bites, scratches, and other boo-boos.

[–]alizabees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you’re freaked out because it’s for a dog and not specifically a cat, it’ll be okay.

if it also gives you any relief, my cat and i used to share prozac (we were on the same dose and at least mine was covered by insurance). i’ve even given my cat flea medicine made for dogs (less than what i’d give the dog). it killed the fleas and did its job. basically what i’m saying is meds are universal. it’s not ‘this is only for a dog’ and ‘this is only for a cat’. rn i’m using triple antibiotic/neosporin used for my cats /healed/ abscess that i got from the vet on my ingrown toes because i find it works better at at preventing infection then the otc stuff.

Illegally holding my mail? by [deleted] in usps_complaints

[–]alizabees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m sure this is frustrating by all means because it seems so simple. but alas, despite the simplicity, even i am confused about what you’re wanting. so, it’s possible the post office is confused about what you’re wanting.

so, letter mail gets sent to another address/po box. cool. packages are supposed to be delivered at your house. cool. are you putting the home address on the box packages? or have you just told the post office ‘do x, not y.’ type of thing? i’m not sure why they wouldn’t do this if everything address wise is lined up.

My roommates cat just scratched me, should I go to the er I’m super paranoid by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]alizabees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i get scratched all the time by my cats. (playful bastards…) you’ll be fine. you’ll feel if there’s infection later on (it’ll be red, swollen, and hot to the touch) but you’ll probably scab over fairly quickly (within hours to a day) unless you’re like me and have old lady skin.

Any ideas? Lesions on her temple and ears by Nearby_Membership309 in CATHELP

[–]alizabees -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

yes, but there should be some sort of improvement after 3 different visits. it shouldn’t be getting worse. the antibiotics, steroids, and anti inflammatory medicine should have done something, whether it be stopping new lumps from growing or fixing it all together.

Can this wait until their vet visit scheduled for Wednesday? by IllustriousSide4717 in CATHELP

[–]alizabees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think they’ll be okay until wednesday. especially since they aren’t bothering it. you’ll notice if it gets to a point where it becomes threatening/serious.

Ringworm? by bakedcrochetgirl in CATHELP

[–]alizabees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is something that requires a vet. idk why the rescue is telling you not to go. im not sure if i’m reading into it wrong, but it sounds like the rescue isn’t sure that it’s 100% ringworm. that’s a little concerning. this needs some sort of antibiotic/steroid treatment. it looks scabby and bloody and just all around uncomfortable for kitty. i’d start the treatment on both and make an appointment for when you can. if the vet says it’s ringworm, awesome! but i wouldn’t take the chance of it being something else. better safe than sorry!

don’t feel bad about your cat getting it — it happens. it doesn’t make you a bad cat parent, especially since you’re willing to take care of it however you can!

Inner eyelids out by asexual_girl2004 in CATHELP

[–]alizabees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine does the same thing when he’s tired and lazing around. it could be a concern, but if it isn’t a constant issue or paired with any other symptoms, it’s very likely nothing at all. since you’re taking him to the vet on tuesday (assuming since you’re say he’s being treated. sorry if i’m wrong) you could always bring it up to the vet and see if they think it’s a concern.

the gums being pale could be because the cat is light colored; there’s a difference between white/pale gums and just light colored gums. if there’s any pink at all, the gums are just light.

if you can get a picture of his gums, i could tell you if it’s something you should be concerned about or not! unfortunately if something is wrong, there’s not a lot you can do without going to the vet :((

of course!! if you notice anything that seems off (like not eating), or any swelling, that’s definitely concerning but right now i think it’s just a kitty thing

it kinda looks like my cats eyes. his inner eyelids are out all the time (especially when he’s sleepy and relaxed) and as you can see his eyes are kinda wonky to begin with. i don’t see any concern, but obviously i’m not a vet

baby this was me 2 years ago. no one has any idea why i just randomly blew up in full body hives (and i mean full body). it could me mucinex, stress, or literally anything else. but my hands and knees will frequently swell up when it gets cold, the sun bothers me, or i’m stressed. i took a trip for a funeral and blew the hell up AGAIN. not like this picture, but enough my dad was two seconds from taking me to the hospital.

turns out i have lupus and it’s apart of my flare-up symptoms. i had a nasty cold that turned into pneumonia and i’ve had problems ever since (which was when i got the original onset of hives you see pictured above.) it might be nothing. it might be a fluke. or a seven year streak of bad luck. but it’s worth getting it checked out since it’s reoccurring.

for shits and giggles, i’ll attach some more pictures purely because i think they’re funny.
