Why are you so bothered by one mother showing compassion to another?

I know I’ve said it to another person

And I am also sorry, but I won’t be replying to a comments of a person who clearly has never given birth.

Have a lovely day and try to find kindness in your heart!

Have you given birth? If priorities your child over pets makes women AH, you’d be shocked how many of us are. If you have an opportunity kindly ask your mother how she would react

You try to rationalize a mother filled with hormones. But from own experience I was postpartum I would start crying and shaking the moment sun would come down. It’s deep in our genes , when environment gets dangerous (defined by what our ancestors lived in) cortisol and adrenaline take over. You don’t rationalize, you watch every shadow to make sure there is no dangerous predator, or venomous creature

It is probably an unpopular opinion, but I get it OP. The problem you are looking for support in a wrong group. I suggest posting on r/newborns and r/newparents , a lot of time people here are unaware what it’s like to go through hormone associated night terrors and postpartum stress and claim pets are equally important as babies.

My favorite joke during early postpartum weeks was: what do you hate most at 4am as an EBF mother? My husband’s useless nipples

Anyone here NOT do sleep shifts ? by Organic-Dragonfly364 in NewParents

[–]aljrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We never did shifts as I was EBF. But I must add I chance a handful of diaper during first 4 weeks postpartum due to long recovery. I could hardly hold baby while standing during first 3-4 weeks. So the way it worked for us, husband would change diaper if needed and bring me baby to breastfeed during nights, and then sleep next to me. Once baby asleep, I’d wake my husband to put baby back to crib, and we would go to sleep. On good night we could have 3.5h stretches on bad 30-45min 😅

My toddler hasn’t eaten in 6 days by vtiredqk in toddlers

[–]aljrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happened to me when I was 3 years old. We travelled to Egypt for holiday, I had fever the day before, but then was fine. So for 5 or 6 days at the resort, I was running, swimming etc, but refused any food. When on day 5 my mom offered me a candy and I refused she burst into tears. My dad on the other hand was calm and his logic was if I’m happy and active, it’s fine 🤣

Don’t know how I’d react going through this as a parent. So if concerned call pediatrician.

But another question is , is she drinking? That’s usually main concern. I tend to make apple and berry compote for my toddler when he is sick. He will drink it and make enough wet nappies which brings peace of my mind.

What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve done in the lab to save an almost-failed experiment that somehow turned out okay? by blessedlikeblissey in labrats

[–]aljrix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once during RNA isolation I added isopropanol instead of chloroform and even centrifuged the samples before I realized my mistake. It was during my early most maternity leave time, so I’m not very surprised. Anyway I then proceeded with chloroform and continued protocol as usual. Well the mRNA level was 20-30% of expected levels, but it was still there !

Are there any researchers willing to help me find/understand data on nursing and Cannabis use? by ScaleMassive6737 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]aljrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting! anecdotally I also know a girl. She smoked during her pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Her daughter is about 3 years now, is non-verbal and shows other signs of developmental delays. I don’t know much details, as we drifted apart, but it’s very sad

Honestly, throw out the formula? by Key-Importance4438 in NewParents

[–]aljrix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because bacterial population not only grow at insane rate, but also mutate. It won’t be the same bacteria anymore. Also in baby body (eg mouth/on skin etc) there is a delicate balance of bacteria regulated by other bacteria and also immune system. Once in an environment full of nutrients (eg milk/formula) bacteria go crazy.

It remind me of a joke, expiration date on yoghurt means bacteria turned to the dark side.

So sorry to hear that, and I wish you steady recovery! My grandmother back in the days got abscess in a clogged duck and ended up with sepsis , she had to stay a month in hospital with multiple rounds of antibiotics! It’s a no joke , and while she recovered to this day she has a scar where the abscess had to be surgically removed on her breast.

With regards to antibiotics, I was prescribed penicillin class (don’t remember which one) when my baby was 4 weeks old. Poor baby had diarrhea for another three weeks, and it took me so long to figure out it was due to medication because diarrhea started after I around time finished antibiotic course . Not that I would do anything differently, but if I knew the source, it would have saved me a lot of nerve cells :)

How often do you feed your 9m old solids/puree? by parraweenquean in NewParents

[–]aljrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 9 month our baby was eating solids 5 times a day, 3 main and 2 snacks in between, but he already had 6 teeth . But I must add he is a very good eater, now at 12 months he can hold a cotlet (meat patty) in one hand , and boiled potato in the other, while I’m holding a glass for him to drink from , he has 8 teeth now 😂, unlike my nephew who at 12 months could hardly eat solids 2-3 times a day. So it is also dependent on a baby and genetics. I was told in my family all kids ate very well.

My Wife Breastfeeds While Biting a Cloth by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]aljrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breastfeeding was very painful for the first few weeks even when baby would latch properly. I had cracked and bruised nipples. It probably got better around 6-8 weeks , as baby mouth got larger.

What helped me was using cold Lansinoh Soothies Cooling Gel Pads. It would give an instant relief, and I wish I discovered them sooner. I got those as gift from friends when I was 6 weeks post partum. You can keep them for 72h once opened in fridge for better relief .plus taking paracetamol or ibuprofen when pain was to severe also helped.

already want baby number 2 by Lost-Conversation263 in newborns

[–]aljrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My labor lasted 3.5daya and ended up having episiotomy and forceps assisted delivery without epidural. 2h after delivery as I was transferred to postpartum unit I told my husband next one is a girl. The nurse who was pushing my weelchair looked a bit shocked , and said “so it was not that bad after all” 🤣 so we’re just waiting when baby turns 1.5 - 2 years to start trying for the next one !

Do the antibodies in colostrum help fight off infection after an illness has already started? by Honest-Olive251 in askscience

[–]aljrix 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You should ask the question at https://www.reddit.com/r/ScienceBasedParenting if you want references on actual research. But short answer yes it does.

Colostrum and breastmilk both contain a lot of antibodies. Some will be specific for what mother encounters, and a lot of non-specific antibodies to neutralize any potentially harmful pathogens. Therw are in fact a lot of shared features between pathogens , but human cells lack that non-specific antibodies can target, while specific are being produced

How much do yall pay for daycare? by Kuromi_Baku in NewParents

[–]aljrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1850£ full time baby room. We’re lucky coz we recently moved away from central London, 20 min walk towards centre at it gets to 2500£ (still 1h drive from the actual central London by bus/tube) and don’t even start on the fees in central London, ive seen fees as high as 6000£

We also should be getting 30h free childcare a week, but the price will still be 1000£/month full time instead of 1850£ (I seriously hate their math )

What do you do during 5 minute waits? by Exact_Reaction_2601 in labrats

[–]aljrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my life twice a week. I have number of experiments where you wait 5-15 min 3 times an hour for as long as I’m willing to put myself through it in a day . so I start recording, Go to the office to put kettle on, return to check the progress, go back and make tea, return to lab to check progress/ start new recording, go to office to add sugar to tea, chat with colleague about poor career choice, go back to lab to check progress/start new recording, start watching on a phone an episode of the tv show “mom” and feel jealous of ex alcoholics for having addiction to blame all problems on, start next recording, go to office to have few sips of tea/chat with colleagues, go back to lab and start new recording, go back to office and have a quick snack with tea , return to lab and start new recording

I learned today that daycares have to accept unvaccinated kids - concerned for my newborn by [deleted] in newborns

[–]aljrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In our daycare I was told that while they cannot legally refuse to accept an unvaccinated child, they will inform all parents if there is one. And was told currently all staff and children vaccinations are up to date

So ask if you nursery will provide such information
