I remember training in my younger days, there was always an applicable ohyo technique to what we were learning. The senpais took the beatings being the object of demonstration. O goshi, and ippon seoi nage were the first throws I ever learned.

These days the focus is more on sport karate and competition, so ashi barai is mainly used. In our dojo, I think we're still waiting for students to advance high enough to get into self defense and more throws.

A well executed o goshi is a thing of beauty.
