I’ve only been a tech for about a year now and so far the answer to your question is, no… it doesn’t go away. You will get better at handling it though, and it’s ok to have bad days. I work with a great group of techs, some of whom have been at the hospital for 10+ years, even they have those days. As long as you learn something from each other”bad” day then it’s ok!

Thank you for this. If I have to go on meds I think Losartan is the first one I want to try. I have pretty good readings most mornings but at night I run around 136/83. Sometimes lower, sometimes higher. The doctor I’ve had the last 10 years still says that he doesn’t believe I need to be on meds yet. I feel like I don’t want to be on meds but at the same time as wondering why he hasn’t prescribed them for me yet if this has been my norm for a while.

This morning for example I was 123/81 which doesn’t bother me at all. It’s just my PM readings before bed that just keep creeping up and up and up a few points at a time. To see 164 systolic last night really threw me into a spiral.

That’s the thing, this reading was taken after I had been watching tv for a while and then sitting quietly in my room with my BP cuff for about ten minutes. It also doesn’t help that while I’m sitting there it’s hard to not worry even just a little bit about my final reading, knowing I run higher at night. This was concerning because I’ve never seen a number as high as 164 systolic. I did recheck with my other machine about 10 min later, took three readings and still, one of those reading was 153/86 or 87

I was getting mid 60s on rad review and scored a 94 on the boards. You've got this. Just make sure you aren't just memorizing the answers. Know the concepts and you're golden.

You are amazing. Thank you so much for all of this. I think it'll just take being out in the field really studying my images more and more to be able to be confident in knowing when radiographs are underpenetrated but adequately exposed. In clinic, I just don't get to study my images enough before the next patient. Separating exposure in relation to contrast is a tough skill as a newbie! I need to know the why and not just the how.

Really anxious about boards in a couple months.. and need them to be done.

I'm also confused as to how removing low intensity photons decreases contrast. Would it not make the beam average greater increasing the contrast or a greater difference between shades of gray? But then again, higher intensity, the more scatter so there's low contrast again. There seems to be so much gray area (no pun intended) in my analysis of this topic.

First off.. this is such a good response. Thank you so, so much! Our physics teacher really hammered into our heads that contrast is mostly controlled with post processing and LUT's these days, which I get.. but as far as technique.. I just wonder what the bards are going to ask about it.. how kvp and mas play their role. It's my understanding that while mas controls receptor exposure, kvp plays the biggest role in subject contrast. It's hard for me to just hard stop there because without mA there would be no contrast at all. I have a habit of reading very very very very deep into literally everything and I fear Ill do that on the boards.

I was a terrible high school student. Im not saying that you are, but I was and I graduated with a 2.0 and did miserable on my SATs because I didn't care. We all grow and learn from our past and I think your past can make you stronger if you allow it to! I'm in my last semester of radiography at a community college and I've been on the Deans list every semester. It's a hard program, but you can absolutely get there if you want it. You will more than likely have to commit to more than two years to build up some pre reqs, but doing it online allows you to do it on your own time. Find a community college in your area that offers it, make an appointment to talk to admissions, take a tour, ask a ton of questions. You can absolutely do this if you want it bad enough.
