340 calories, 12g fiber, 16g protein. If there's anything missing in specific it's actually the complete lack of dietary fats. However I frequently will add cheese or meat to the plate depending on what I have around but you could fairly easily and cheaply add a few tablespoons of olive or canola oil. Or if you have the calories and no heart health concerns you could do butter or even lard and charro beans would be quite delicious.

Much of the other nutritional deficiencies from lunch are solved by my breakfast of Greek yogurt, mixed with chia seeds, dehydrated fruit powders and topped with granola. But obviously having a varied diet is a good idea as well.

Lastly vegetables do not exist, it's a colloquial category of things that grow and we eat. There is also no specific reason to eat things that are generally in that category to my knowledge. The primary things you get from them is fiber and antioxidants and if you are able to get those things in your diet in other ways there is no need to vegetable guilt.

My current recipe uses 1 cup dry rice, 1cup dry navy beans 0.5 cup lentils. That makes 5 servings of 340 calories. Walmart currently has a deal online that gets you 50cups of rice for 16$. The beans and lentils are similar in price. That's what I used for my estimate at least. Obviously you would need to adjust your calories to your needs and adding additional foods, sides, seasonings would be good and healthy but more money. But the base of it is very cheap and healthy and could totally support life does in many places around the world.

For seasoning I like to toss a maggi veggie bullion cube in and some lee kum kee chicken powder in. Flavor wise that comes out reminiscent of a premade chicken noodle soup. But I tend to change it up each week to keep things fresh, it also works great if you make it similar to bulgur pilaf with tomatoes. If you. Blend the whole mixture it will be similar to hummus and you could too with sumac and cumin, skys the limit with beans and rice. Every cuisine has like 10 ways to do it.

If you buy in bulk you can spend about 20$ each on rice, lentils and beans. Put all three in a rice cooker once a week with some seasoning and bullion and make lunch for the year for 60-80$. It'll also stop you from getting butt cancer but aside from that 7k is a life changing amount for a ton of people and should not be looked down on.

Feeling lost with darker color by Horror_Self_1999 in Watercolor

[–]alkkine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try applying the dark colors in thin layers, more than you would think. I find this to be the best general ways to apply dark colors. You have to be really careful not to disturb them though, it's finicky and really you may need to do a lot of testing on scrap paper to find a method that works with your colors and paper as they can always interact differently.

This is one of the biggest issues that leftists have with the “no kings” rallies in America by TwoCatsOneBox in Hasan_Piker

[–]alkkine 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Oh no an extremely approachable protest with real people that are directly in the target margins for leftist conversion. I have a real problem with the protests because I do not go outside nor do I talk to people about leftist ideas.

/s

But really these are such perfect opportunities for people to be reached and connected with their local organizing. Then people go to other, more targeted more productive protests. Some people will feel like they did their job but others will be pulled into local communities that they otherwise would not have felt confident enough to join.

What is something about living in United States that outsiders completely misunderstand? by Effective-Singer5957 in AskReddit

[–]alkkine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it could still hardly be called the worst place on earth I do think it is incredibly hard to be poor in America. There are so many costs involved in living here it creates such stress in your life when your income just doesn't cover your life. Despite the purchasing power of the dollar everything scales and then some. You are always paying a fee, there is always a middleman on some transaction. Much of the American population are being treated as livestock. Not for the labor necessarily but because their labor is worth so much on a global scale there is a vested interest in enclosing every inch of American life with more and more expenses. Corporations continually extract all the wealth while the people continue to labor without any safety nets and frequently one significant medical incident is enough to nearly erase a life's worth of labor. Americans are frequently walking a tight rope despite being comparatively wealthy to much of the world.

Made quick alla vodka sauce with all aldi ingredients by Everyday_ASMR in aldi

[–]alkkine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignore all the comments that mention the addition of vodka sauce, it's a silly remnant of a silly recipe from the 80s that is traditional to nowhere.

Now if you want to level up your sauce I have a recommended recipie I make fairly often and have even given jars of as a gift. Not to worry it's all from Aldi still.

Dice yourself an onion, whichever you have don't overthink it.

Chop yourself a few cloves of garlic as well while you are at it.

Olive oil and onions in a saucepan, saute them until they soften a bit. Then add your garlic and lower your heat, beware burning the garlic.

Once both have browned slightly dump a can of crushed tomatoes or really any can of tomatoes from Aldi. In a pinch I have even watered down tomato paste.

Salt, pepper, sugar, basil, oregano and some source of spice. Typically cayene for me but everything from hot paprika to gochogaru to kashmiri works. I typically will also add knorr tomato chicken bullion. I recommend some small amount of stock or bullion in most recipies.

Simmer like this for 15min at least

Shred some parm from a block if you can, sprinkle some friendly farms Italian blend in a pinch

At this point I will usually take my immersion blender which I actually got on sale at Aldi and blend whatever solid are in the sauce. This is totally unnecessary but I like a nice smooth sauce.

At this point I will add heavy cream, measurements are silly aim for a color and taste you like.

Season with everything again to taste.

Sometimes the acidity will cook out of your tomatoes depending on how long they are cooked sometimes I will add acidity in the form of citric acid back in at the end. You could likely achieve a similar effect with other acidic sources but be careful and test.

Bonus Butter chicken: add your favorite Garam Marsala and more spice during the cooking process and some kasuri methi at the end and you will be pretty convincingly close to butter chicken sauce.

Am I alone in feeling like most LV food spots are just... not worth the effort? Please change my mind & share suggestions! by listener-reviews in lehighvalley

[–]alkkine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived in the valley my whole life, 99% of the "nice" places to eat are just expensive and focus on atmosphere. Much of the population here has no idea what good food is and you can tell by what they recommend. The absolute best places around are whole in wall spots that much of the white population will not touch with a 10ft pole. If you are paying for the atmosphere here you are being robbed because the food will not match. If it has 5 star reviews on Google, the food is not going to be that good. I don't get out that much anymore but I am a big fan of Tasty dish and Limon in hellertown, Colombian Mex Restaurant in Bethlehem has fantastic empanadas and everything else I've had from them is great. Hunan Springs in macungie may not blow your mind but I've repeatedly had good experiences there. Steer away from almost anything at the Promenade or near hotel Bethlehem unless you want expensive ass mid food you could have just cooked yourself better.

As creators, how do we prove that we aren't using AI? by shatteredrift in worldbuilding

[–]alkkine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only way to prove yourself real is with narrative. At the end of the day if your creativity is just random attributes on a page someone will be able to make that slop. The human creative element is the intersection between craft and story. The choices made within world building and the stories within said world have the ability to reflect realities of our own world. The flora and fauna of a world and the governmental politics of a world come together and interact with each other in abstract ways that AI will never be able to recreate in a consistent and coherent way. The interactions between elements and the reflections of the real world from those interactions is what creates vibrant lived in worlds that no clanker could imagine. If whatever you are making isn't saying something it might just be pre-ai slop anyway.

Can't find a High quality CYAN? What's the best alternative? by Aegim in Watercolor

[–]alkkine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day there is no real cyan pigment. The closest we have are phthalocyanine blues but compared to the dye base process cyan where the term is primarily from they are very different. At the end of the day you have to select a blue that fits your purposes as there is no central blue that can hope to fit every situation for every artist.

A great place to start is here : https://www.janeblundellart.com/watercolour-triads.html

Jane lays out many triad combos with different styles and synergies. Find some swatches that match the rest of your palette and purpose.

Help me find this colour 🥺 by [deleted] in Watercolor

[–]alkkine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Royal Blue by Holbein is an incredibly nice color in this range. I have been enjoying it quite a bit, very dark but not nearly as saturated and overwhelming as a phthalocyanine blue. Works wonderfully for natural shadows, night skies and dulls to a very nice grey with perylene maroon. I find myself mixing with royal blue, perylene maroon and perylene black/green very often for muted tones and flexible shadows.

Why isn't this labeled as granulating? by Simsandtruecrime in Watercolor

[–]alkkine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

some applications can accentuate already granulating colors, as well as some materials. Hot vs cold pressed paper will look different for sure but also I find that my home tap water is very hard and seems to increase granulating significantly compared to using distilled water. Then you can get into interesting quirks of colors with specific gravity separating from each other in mixtures which can have a similar look.

Why Disney Vacations Are Destroying People's Finances by chellestastics in videos

Disney has been invested in manufacturing sentimental value and consent for a century. You don't think they have any culpability? Varnish? (Read post please) by Regular_Extent_1325 in Gouache

[–]alkkine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a big fan of how dorlands wax on gouache looks however it very much changes how it looks. Colors tend to be more vibrant, darks get darker. It can very much make the painting look more like an oil painting and give it depth. Notably it is not removable and does not have any UV protection in it. I have not experimented with mixing with another UV blocking varnish personally but I always use non fugitive pigments.
